A Nice Walk ( with photos )

Oh sorry. Yes. That’s my husband. For some reason I expected you all to realize that but how would you.

That was my guess. You guys are leading the good life.
Enjoying the pictures everyone shares of their walks.

We have bike trail that goes along the local creek that I would like to walk Mac on.
My husband has a problem with his legs & won't walk with us.
I won't go alone as bear & bob cat have been sighted along the trail.

Good call.

Hi Mark,
Those steps leading down look so nice.
We go to places where we have to put our dogs on their leash but they are also well behaved both on their leash and off.

Your wife and you make a very attractive couple. Thanks for sharing.

Does your wife go for walks everyday with you?

Oh yes, she walks like her life depends on it. ( It probably does for most of us.) I love taking walks together and now, when we go somewhere beyond her range that feels safe, I'll do a larger loop and rendezvous along the way. We can do this at Fort Funston and Redwood park.

Walking with my husband in the mornings is the best part of the day for me. Today I’m staying home. Yesterday and the day before we really walked a lot. I usually walk 5 to 6 times a week, closer to 6 and some days I really over do it. I’m trying to lose weight though.

Our life is somewhat parallel to yours.
My husband has just discovered that he loves gardening. Here’s a lettuce garden he built to keep the deer away. There’s a variety of lettuce in there including romaine and red oak.

And here are some of our tomatoes plants. We have about 8 or 9 different kinds. The garden itself has deer fencing around it.

I remember you talking about overdoing it recently. That is something I’ve had to stop doing. When we’re young it seems like no matter how hard we push we just get stronger. But I guess I’m edging into elderly as I’ve noticed neither my strength, stamina nor balance is what they were. In the past I’d never lose my balance, if footing became slick or gave way my body would simply correct automatically. I’m treating myself more gently now. I have plenty enough interests that I don’t need to put all my eggs into the physical.

By the way, Patty, you've inspired me.

Today I've arranged to spend two nights in Fort Bragg, California with Lia and Ember in the next month. We're booked into this AirB&B where she has a fenced in two acres, goats, chickens and a nice garden: Guesthouse in Fort Bragg · ★4.95 · 1 bedroom · 3 beds · 1 bath

This is the town where the botanical garden we like to visit is located. We'll visit that our second day, eat at Noyo Harbor and let Ember run at the dog beach at the mouth of the harbor. But the first day we'll just take our time coming up, taking walking/stretching breaks along the way and then enjoy our cabin and host.

Overdoing it seems to be easy to do, especially when we get older. I often overdo it, especially while walking. I try not to as it really sets me back. I haven’t been diagnosed with an auto immune disorder but strongly believe I have one. It’s easy to empathize with your wife. She looks like a very loving, gentle woman. A week ago I got blood tests done so maybe I’ll know soon.

I’m glad I inspired you to travel some. It sounds like a wonderful get-away for even your dog. A run on the beach is always welcome. I wish there was botanical gardens near us we could go to. That sure would be nice. Take lots of pictures to show us and have a wonderful time.

Today we walked 4 .6 kilometres over the organized path. The township was working on it; cutting down fallen branches etc. We passed one other person with a dog. At the time it looked like it was going to pour down but it didn’t. It was 23 degrees Celsius, felt like 30 with the humid x.

Today we walked on a path closer to the city. It was 3 kilometres but lots to see including this carved old man’s head.
IMG_5132.jpeg
We met up with 3 groups of people. Some were feeding the ducks.
IMG_5112.jpeg
This path has a pretty water fountain and drinking fountains for people and dogs. Every once in a while it has potted flowers.
IMG_5108.jpeg

The path goes up to a university. We turned around at that point. Most of this path is pavement which is good for filing down our dogs claws.
IMG_5129.jpeg
Heres a picture of a forest fairy house built into one of the trees.
IMG_5133.jpeg

Here’s a few more photos.
A large portion of the path had pretty bushes and wild flowers adoring it.

A cute little bridge
IMG_5101.jpeg
The paved pathway going around the water.
IMG_5109.jpeg
Some geese on the other side of the pond

IMG_5107.jpeg
A wood bench to sit quietly and watch the pond.

The carvings and sculpting are fun to see but boy did you have some nice wildflowers on your walk.

Oops, meant to 'quote' your pic, not copy it. (Not my photo! - Darn it.)

No worries about copying my photo Mark.
If you liked the flowers they MUST have been good cause you have excellent taste. lol. We walked 3.4 kilometres yesterday.

This morning we went back to the path around the pond. It’s 25 degrees today, and partially cloudy. The breeze coming off the pond was nice. We walked 3.3 kilometres

The ducks were doing nose dives into the water to get the cheerios the kids fed them yesterday.

IMG_5141.jpeg
It not only looks pretty; it smells nice too. There are many dog wood roses in full bloom
and every now and again we’d get a good whiff of them.

IMG_5152.jpeg

After walking around the pond we took a detour into a neighbourhood and I couldn’t resist taking a picture of this cat watching us.
IMG_5147.jpeg
We walked to the end of the road which had an old wooden bridge over the water.
IMG_5145.jpeg
Walking back I took a picture of the water fountain.
IMG_5149.jpeg⛲️ I’ll continue posting a second post since I have a some more interesting photos.

Since I like flowers so much I spotted a beautiful vase in front of someone’s house

Another photo of the pond

Then while driving home before leaving the city, I spotted a beautiful old car refurbished to look fabulous. Since the owners were sitting in it , I asked if I could take a photo first. They both nodded. The license plate says it’s from Texas.

A video from six years ago popped up on Facebook from a place we've visited many times near Oakhurst, North of Fresno but South of Yosemite. The water is too cool to take a lingering dip but nice enough on a really hot day to take the plunge. Here are some pics from over the years starting with some of the walk leading to Corlieu Falls and then I'll try to link the video.

Of course we often brought the dogs.

Ok with all honesty, I’m jealous. What a fabulous swimming spot. Fresh flowing water!!! It’s probably on the cool side but with these temps, would be welcoming. Yes, I know it’s from years ago but still. Thats nice. Besides walking, swimming is my next favourite exercise. It looks like your wife loves swimming too.

She does and she is better equipped to cope with the cold than I as I found out when camped below a small glacier in the Trinity Alps one summer. Over 100 and Lia was dipping in and out constantly making me very jealous. So I steeled my courage and dived in. Felt like my head literally froze and cracked like a cartoon character. Huge head ache. She told me she never put her head in. I doubt I could will myself to just breast stroke into glacier melt without a plunge but I didn't do it again. Not fair! Adipose tissue is a super power.

I'm not a strong swimmer and not adept enough to do it for exercise but I love swimming in lakes, streams and rivers as well as body surfing in the ocean .. when it isn't too cold! ;)

Another area of life we are similar. My husband can’t swim, or barely can. I taught him years ago but he still doesn’t do well. He does a fancy dog paddle and that’s about it.
I’m surprised they let him in the military.

Usually when we go in the water, he goes fishing while I swim away. I can swim circles around him. I think woman are built better to swim than men.

My best swimming styles are the front stroke stroke and the breast stroke. The front stroke is my fastest while my breast stroke is for longevity. I literally can swim for hours doing the breast stroke even at this age.

The front crawl I can’t do for very long because water gets in my ear. I have a reconstructed ear drum since I lost it when in my twenties. It works well for hearing but doesn’t keep the water out. I won’t get into how it happened.

I can picture your wife swimming circles around you. lol 😂

P.S. The trees are quite large there.
I like trees.

I like trees.

I usually do a side stroke, back stroke or something like a frog under water. Coordinating the breath is what’s tough for me.

If we continue up to Yosemite we pass by Mariposa Grove where some huge trees can be seen.

This afternoon I went swimming with my husband. We took turns caring for our dogs.
The water was surprisingly warmer than I expected. I’m not sure how far I swam. I think maybe 1/2 a kilometre in total, from one beach to another.
Here are some pictures.

It was nice watching my husband have fun in the water. He was picking oysters and finding clams. He threw them back into the water though. He’d rather eat fish than oysters and so would I.

IMG_7412.jpeg

It was a nice way to cool down and have fun at the same time.

Yesterday I skipped my walk but today I was all ready to go. As soon as we walked out the door it started raining but we took umbrellas and went anyway. We didn’t need them for long and to be truthful it was nice to get a bit of rain. We walked up mountain road which had a nice breeze, together it really cooled us down. It’s only 24 degrees.

One thing there’s a lot of up there is ragweed. All kinds of bubble bees 🐝 were attached to these rag weeds. It’s been ages since I saw so many bees in one place. It was nice walking through the rag weed listening to and seeing all these bees. A simple pleasure to enjoy for sure.

We walked 3 kilometres. Once we got to the car it started raining again. Our timing for this walk couldn’t have been better. Now that we are home the sun is peeking out.

Note; I could be wrong about this being ragweed. If somebody else knows please let me know.
