A Nice Walk ( with photos )

Today we went along the Atlantic Ocean walking path. We went about 4 kilometres. The path was quite snowy. On the way back I spotted a white weasel and took a few shots. He was very compliant with getting his photo taken. A cute little fella.

This is called a burl which is a deformation in a tree. They are often made into bowls on a lathe by woodworkers.

Today we walked up on mountain road. We walked 3.3 kilometres. There’s never anybody up there so it’s very quiet and serene.. it’s so cute seeing fox and / or coyote tracks with no human tracks around. We saw an eagle the other morning with with sone prey in its mouth. HIMG_9739.jpeg

Not what you’d call a walk , but a few days ago we had lunch out at a local pub .it was leading up to Australia Day
so the back garden some call the beer garden of the ..PUB ..was all decorated for the influx of many many who were expected to turn up for a beer ~ or two ~ today (Jan 26th ) Aust day ..lots of drama surrounding the day …Now days …Sigh …

I love that silvery blue ground cover. Do you get snow where you live in the winter?
No @PeppermintPatty I’ve never seen snow ..we get very cold 🥶 Arctic winds in winter and quite often get a freezing fog drifting in off the ocean about 2 pm … ..I’ve got photos of that fog .

Our low day time temps don’t get down under 8c ( 46f) …last winter we had some very low morning temps that felt like frost but it’s said we don’t get frost near the sea ….well it most certainly felt like frost to me ( didn’t see any )
however our main shopping area 18 km from us gets heavy frosts ( that’s inland ) freezing mornings …- 1

Today it’s forecast to be 36c …96F

Think that silvery blue ground covers are… smoke bush ..common name .
@MarkD will know he’s so good at naming plants for us

I luv this and Marks plants threads it makes my day chatting about our gardens / walks and general chat ….
Patty I looked ….if we had a preserving foods …thread couldn’t see one but I was sure we had one somewhere ….cause I’ve still got peaches / plums and apples to preserve yet 😀..we may even dry some peaches 🍑

Today was a 3 kilometre beach walk. The sun behind us made our shadows really long. Lol. There were tracks from some animal. We figure it was a fox. Further up the beach we saw what looked like Otter track marks. If it wasn’t the ocean I’d guess a beaver but it IS salt water so I doubt it.

You’ve never seen snow? Wow! I’m not sure what to say and today your temperatures are 96. That’s far too hot for me.

Whatever the name of the ground cover, I like it. I like silver blue ground overs. We get a type that sometimes lasts through the winter. I think they are called ‘dusty millers.’

Do you think we should make a thread for canning? If you start one I’ll join in.

Do you have a dehydrator? My husband and I have considered getting one , especially one for herbs. It would be nice to dry some fresh herbs.

Note: I’ve tried cutting herbs into pieces and making herb filled ice cubes to use in cooking but I think a dehydrator might work best.

No, unfortunately. Some were in the UK, most were central Europe. Germany and Austria and a couple in Romania. I went to see Dracula, but he wasn't home... :ROFLMAO:

I do have some photos, but I didn't take them. They're photos I've collect from all over the Internet.
Geez! Dracula wasn’t very accommodating ! 😂 Those castle photos must be enchanting. I wonder how many princesses are sneaking out back windows using their hair as rope. 🤪 Surely someone’s got a picture of that. Lol

Yes I have dehydrator @PeppermintPatty I've had it prob close on 30 years Snackmaker FD500 Digital | Ezidri
it came with a fine filter try for drying herbs , but you can dry herbs quite successfully in a low oven , I dry lemon zest in the oven as well as a few herbs ..mainly for summer as most of the time the herbs I use are growing in the garden ..which is mainly mint / parsley / Onions / rosemary ….don't like basil

@PeppermintPatty
I saw snow in Australia .. while visiting Kryal Castle, in the State of Victoria. It was quite the surprise for me!

I thought you’d have a dehydrator. We’ve dried rosemary and oregano before in a regular oven. Lemon zest would be nice .
You don’t like basil? I guess pesto is out then?

It’s good to know somebody’s seen snow in Australia. I realize it’s not the norm . Thanks for sharing Pinky.

@PeppermintPatty
There are ski resorts in the State of Victoria .. Ski resorts Victoria - skiing in Victoria
Wow. Thats quite the number of ski resorts.
I wonder how much snow is man made. Either way it looks quite successful. I loved skiing when I was younger. A friend of mine tricked me into going on the most challenging hills. I hated it. Half way through the hill a ski protroll person helped me down and he was really handsome. It’s been an on going joke for years now.

We’ve been through the snowy mountains ( in summer ) it was last Feb … they are in New south wales IMG_7963.jpeg

You’re sure getting a lot of good critter pics Togo with your usualscenic pathways.
Somehow my eye always catches critters. When I see them they always seem to be in photo taking mode. Like that little weasel. It came flying off the path and then stood in what looked like his den with the cutest look about him. The only animals that really scare me are the grouse. They are so well camouflaged that it’s had to see them . Then they come out of their hiding places like a bat out of hell and scare the pants off me.
How have you been doing Mark? I haven’t seen you in a while. Do you know what the silvery blue foliage is? They look at bit like dusty millers.IMG_7445.jpeg

My road. This hill is known as “The Wall” to the folks who do the 40 mile USATF certified marathon run every spring.

My neighbor runs this almost every day regardless of weather.

When I could still ride, I walked this on top of a horse. I was bringing a trailer load of hay home in this photo, a few years back.

I‘ve seen everything from copperheads sunning themselves, to flocks of wild turkeys, deer, coyote, Red Tail Hawks, etc., yearling steers getting out, to dumped dogs that I brought home.

There is a hairpin turn at the top that the new Fed-X driver missed and went thru the cow fence. Thankfully a tree stopped him from going all the way to the bottom.

We don’t have winter maintenance. When this hill ices over it can take days to thaw after the rest of the road is clear.
