A woman from Kansas once known as a doe-eyed "all-American girl" is facing terrorism charges for allegedly leading a female Islamic State fighting squadron. Allison Fluke-Ekren, 42, is accused of training children as young as six to use machine guns and planning to commit "violent jihad". She was denied bail after appearing in court in Virginia yesterday and faces decades in prison.

I understand these are also photos of her:

So wholesome in appearance.

I would like to hear her side of the story. The trouble with a lot of media is that the stories they present are often, but not always, one sided. Anyway, I'm a pacifist so it's pretty hard for me to understand how setting off bombs or any other kind of violence is going to solve anything. I figure that violence just brings around more violence!

But let's all bear in mind that, so far, we do not have any evidence in front of us. For all we know she was kidnapped, brainwashed like cultists do, and had no mind of her own. Recall the suicide cults (Jonestown, Heaven's Gate, Kanungu Cult) and the consequences of brain washing. Perhaps this happened to her. We don't know at this point. Let's wait for all the facts to be fully disclosed, analyzed, and conclusions drawn by informed jury members before we reach judgment.

she is an adult is 42 ... only went over there 6-8 years ago still making her an adult .. A school teacher ..
Her parents / and family want ZERO to do with her..... not a sad misguided youth but a nut case

"How the former school teacher, who said she prefers to go by the surname Ekrens, went from Midwestern wife to terror fanatic who rose in the ranks of the Islamic State (IS) group to command her own all-female battalion is a mystery."

These Jihadists either didn't read their Qurans or ignored the parts that forbid the "killing of innocents" and declare suicide a major sin (suicide bombers). I watched a documentary on how people (in it mostly young men) are indoctrinated. Definitely brain washing going on. I couldn't believe one young man's mother said she'd feel honored if her son died as a suicide bomber!! WTH! After watching the show, I could see that their methods were affective. I have no sympathy or mercy for this woman.

Did you know that in some states, Idaho comes to mind, mental illness is not a legal defense for murder. 💁‍♀️
That's one of those "learning something new every day" things..

But all of this has gone waaay beyond outrageous..
One that came to mind: 14-year-old girl took a knife from her home when she left for school.. met up with her boyfriend, stabbed him 23 times.. "sentenced" to 5 years of "outpatient therapy."

I take exception to the remark about NY, as this kind of thing goes on in other places. Nobody's "responsible" for their actions..
Frankly, while I think there should be a small amount of leeway in some instances, we'd be better off by taking this approach https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/m%27naughten_rule#:~:text=The%20M’Naghten%20rule–which%20is%20sometimes%20spelled%20McNaghten–was%20the,Edward%20Drummond%2C%20believing%20he%20was%20the%20Prime%20Minister.

You do make a good point there.

I would agree that she was almost certainly brainwashed, but probably voluntarily. Meaning she fully embraced the ideology in the same way that many join and enthusiastically embrace various religions, philosophies and cults, surrounding themselves with that stream of input nearly 24/7.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with your assessment of the Quran. The Quran does contain passages supporting violence directed against non-believers who oppose Islam, and just as importantly, Muslims are also guided by a study of the life and actions of the Prophet Muhammad, who let's face it, was not exactly a pacifist. A web site ( https://www.thereligionofpeace.com/ ) attempts to document attacks made around the world in the name of Islam against non believers. Month of January: 140 attacks, 723 killed, 389 injured.

IMO, Anyone who commits a murder, or any violent act IS mentally ill.
In the past, various people had the approach that anyone who could do those things 'had to be crazy,' but that's why I believe the M'Naghten Rule should be used: paraphrased, did the person know what he/she was doing, and did he/she know it was wrong (by law).
