Am I the only Brit?

Welcome Fred. Have you introduced yourself formally yet?
There is a section down in Community for introductions.

You aren't the only Brit.
There are several active Poms and Scots on the forum and a few of us wild colonials too.

You’re not alone justfred ! I don’t know how many Brits there are but I’m one, born and bred in Kent

I was introduced to this site by a friend and really enjoy it, the folks here are so friendly :)

Blimey, you weren't the Hollydolly I used to go out with when I was based at HMS Dolphin submarine base were you! Cracker :) :)

That,s nice to know. May I tell you a little about myself.
I am ninety years young, was born in the New Forest In Hampshire and apart from time in the services have always lived here.
On leaving school I was conscripted to work in a factory making parts for RR Merlin aero engines, When I was old enough to join the services I joined the army and trained as a Churchill tank driver. Towards the end of the war I was one of those that were described as a 'D Day Dodger' I was serving in Italy at the time. Being a regular soldier I joined the 4th QOH and served for just over three years in Malaya. On leaving the army in 1952 I got work as a bus driver. From there I went to driving lorries or as our American friends say 'truck'
I married the finest girl God ever put on this earth but sadly lost her after just over fifty years. I have four children two of each.
I now live on a mobile home site on the edge of the New Forest and plan to stay here for the rest of my days.
I am looking forward to hearing from folk all over the world.
Hobbies! I am nuts about vintage vehicles, Planes, trains, cars, lorries (Trucks) .I read a lot of non fiction. One of my wishes is that I could cook. I am hopeless, I can even burn water.
Nuff said. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Ooooh Fab... thanks for the background info Fred...

I'm sure you have a lot to bring to this forum to many of us younger senoiors.. I'm just over 60... so hopefully if God is good he'll let me live as long as you, and healthy too..

Sorry you're now a widower.. but it sounds like you're enjoying your life.. and the new forest is such a beautiful place to do just that.

I think you'll find many like minded posters on here with regard your hobbies..and lifestyle... we have a few who also live in Mobile homes in the USA..

many love vintage vehicles...too... as I do, and take the opportunity to visit and photograph Vintage car shows every year...

I really hope you enjoy the forum... and if you have any problems just shout and Seabreeze (admin) will help you out...

Hello Fred,

Welcome from me too.

I too am vintage, but not as vintage as you are.

This is a nice friendly place and there are other Brits as others
have mentioned, but there are other great people here from
America, Canada, Australia etc.

See you around this forum.

Mike.

Hi, just Fred. I am a Canadian living on the southern tip of Vancouver Island in BC Canada. Our climate here is very much like southern England, very temperate. We have a local steam locomotive which offers rides during the Xmas season. I am looking forward to hearing more but you and your life. This is logging country, and big trucks are common place.

I suddenly feel a comparative youngster on here Fred at a mere 79! Thanks for the info. My daughter lives in Ringwood so know the area quite well, beautiful!

yes I know Horndean and Havant very well.... we lived in Naval quarters in Gosport way back in the day...

My parents were both born in Scotland, the brothers and myself in Brooklyn, does that count?:)
