An active shooter has left 'multiple casualties' at Brown University campus Rhode Island

The man arrested in connection to the deadly shooting at Brown University has been identified as Benjamin Erickson, according to law enforcement sources.

The 24-year-old from Wisconsin is accused of carrying out the mass shooting Saturday night at the Ivy League campus that left two students dead and nine people injured, sources told The Washington Post.
The suspect is said to have made a 17-hour trek from Wisconsin to Rhode Island with a laser-equipped firearm, according to law enforcement.

He was taken into custody early Sunday morning by FBI agents at the Hampton Inn hotel in Coventry.

The connection between Erickson and Brown University remains unclear. Authorities are looking into his mental health history, NBC News reported.

Most of us on the planet get sad at times and depressed? but never kill but there does seem to be an instinct in human nature to do so ? maybe much linked to religious beliefs? [as we stare around us at the world maps?] after all this time we are still not a gentle and kind species with no sense of hatred??

All too often, these mass shooters have a military background. We train them to be efficient killing machines, and then when they get out of the military, all too often, they don't have career opportunities. Many of them suffer from PTSD after experiencing the horror of war. Combine all that with relationship problems and you have a recipe for disaster.

We don't know much about the Brown University shooter, but we do know that he's ex-military. I'd be willing to bet that he's had trouble earning a living and relationship problems. That seems to be the perfect storm for these mass murders.

As it turns out, we don't know anything about the Brown University shooter because the "person of interest" has been released.

That's the second suspect they 'released' yet they said his guns had unique identifiable characteristics of the killers gun. Probably don't have enough evidence to proceed with actual charges.

They keep on releasing releasing suspect footage from local cameras which is good. Can even see things like probably has a bit of a beer gut, walks duck footed, likes to put hands behind back and was wearing a black surgical mask which should've stuck out over a blue one. Have to wonder what the early description of the suspect was.

The school has also issued warnings on doxxing people because the Internet is taken over the investigation being more aggressive than the police.

Last but not least the victims were all accounts good people, active in the school, ambitious majors etc. The victims literally lost their adult life because someone was trying to make a statement.

Peace

It's hard to believe that nobody has identified him. Something weird is going on with this case.

Wasn't he rumored to have yelled, "Allah Akbar."

Rumoured? I would not put too much weight on something that appears on the internet without very solid verification. Remember the old saying "a lie travels halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its boots" (one version of a saying circa WW I) .
Given what happened in Bondi last weekend, I would think you might find this a credible rumor.

I find it interesting that at Bondi, it was a muslim who tackled and disarmed one of the shooters. He had no idea who the people doing the shooting were, but he decided to risk his own life to stop at least one of them. Thankfully he succeeded.

It does beg the question tho'.. if he'd known they were muslims, would he have still tackled them... we can't ever know... but however and whatever.. he did.. and the poor man has suffered quite extensive injuries for his trouble... but there was a second guy who jumped in as well to tackle the bad guys and the police mistook him for a shooter and beat him up...

Not afraid to admit this was my original thought, too, Holly. "Romanticized" versions (for lack of a better term) of stories always travel more widely and faster than what may be the underlying facts. Sure the guy's a hero. Thank goodness he was there... but only he knows what he would have done if just a couple little things had presented differently. 🤷‍♀️ @hollydolly

Not necessarily. No such thing has appeared on Australian media which has covered every aspect of the Bondi massacre. It's not as if there weren't plenty of witnesses that have been questioned.

Given the maxim that it is near impossible to prove a negative, it is up to you to show that your statement is true. I cannot prove it false but would like to know your source for the "rumour".

This is getting weird. Ahmed al Ahmed is an immigrant from Syria who stepped forward to defend Jewish Australians without a second thought. Back in Syria he is being hailed as a hero.

Ahmed believed that he was about to die. That is the only thing that makes me think that he could have uttered the words Allahu Akbar. It means "Allah is the greatest", not "Death to the Infidel".

There were many people that day who put their other people's safety before their own. Surf life guards rushed down to the beach to render first aid and to pull people out of the surf. Other people shielded children with their bodies by lying on top of them on the sand. The children were not their own. Ahmed was but one of the people whose courage kicked in even though they must have been so very afraid.

God bless them all.

A warning about believing everything we see on the net.

Bullet fragments were still lodged in Arsen Ostrovsky's head from his brush with death when he first saw fake images circling on social media that accused him of being a crisis actor.

The lawyer was among the dozens of people injured at Bondi Beach when two gunmen opened fire at a Hanukkah celebration on Sunday night, killing 15 people.

A bullet had grazed his head, opening a wound that led to his skull.

Bystanders rushed to stem the bleeding, but before Mr Ostrovsky had even left the hospital, his likeness began cropping up all over the internet.

Artificial intelligence-generated images appeared to show him having make-up applied while surrounded by a film crew, while another post had been manipulated to remove his bandages and suggest his wound was fake.

"I saw those pictures as I was being wheeled into the operating theatre to remove bullet fragments," he told reporters after returning to the scene of the massacre on Thursday. "I'm not dignifying these sick, twisted campaigns of hate and lies with a response."

But Mr Ostrovsky added social media companies had an "incredible onus" to stamp out hate on their platforms.

"These are not mere words .. when words and hatred are left untouched, it leads to violence," he said. "We saw the manifestation of that on Sunday."

A man who shared the same name as one of the shooters also spoke out on social media after posts that wrongly identified him as the gunman. The night of the shooting, Mr Ostrovsky and his family were celebrating the first day of Hanukkah with the local community.

He had just stepped aside to grab some food when the shots rang out. Masses of people began rushing out of the area as chaos reigned. Mr Ostrovsky started running towards his wife and kids, who were about 30 metres away, when he fell to the ground screaming.

"Blood started gushing everywhere," he said. "I put my hand on my head. I almost felt my bone. The doctors said it was a miracle. I was millimetres away from life and death."

By the end of the night, 15 people had been fatally wounded, while several more remain in hospital fighting for their lives. Mr Ostrovsky and his family escaped, and he said they had received incredible support from the community in the intervening days.

NSW Premier Chris Minns, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other members of the Knesset called the survivor to offer their condolences and help.

He welcomed newly announced federal reforms to crack down on those who promote violence and hate, but added the measure was needed long ago.
