And now for the Good news...

When enough states legalize pot and it becomes a mainstream business, I wonder how long it'll take them to have some study report that folks need to "take a toke a day to keep the doctor away"??

Why not?:)

I'd have to see more details on that study in information on the 1700 that participated and some background like medicated or ever treated for anything prior.. Apparently it started in 2003. The same study also found out that exercise also increased chances of living longer. Too many contradictory studies out there. This says about 2 drinks a day which is 14 drinks a week. Other studies have shown that more than 4-6 drinks a week can increase the chances or make a person an alcoholic. Moderation is key but a drink or two a day will not be 'the' answer many are looking for and that's the problem with studies like these it gives some the impression there is 'one' answer.

I read that same study in the newspaper today. It also said that people who are a bit overweight live longer.

So, there you go--eat, drink and be happy! :)

There's got to be a catch somewhere.

There was an interesting Canadian study a few years ago that said people who are about 20 pounds over the current guidelines actually live longer.

A doctor friend said he was always sad when a thin older woman presented with pneumonia because he knew he was probably going to lose her. He said we need a little more body mass to overcome the wasting diseases that are prevalent among older people.

One of my best friends ever...died of cancer early 2013. When diagnosed , @ 6'1" he weighed 160...His doc at some point said to his wife , I wish he had a few extra pounds to deal with the cancer & the chemo together......he couldn't fight both....

Alcohol is like most things...it can be beneficial when taken in Moderation. The French, for example, have some of the lowest incidents of heart attacks...largely due to their tradition of having a glass of wine with their Supper. One or two beers, or alcohol drinks, per day, has long been known to be beneficial. However, when a person begins to go through a 6 pack, or more, or makes their bottle of whiskey their best friend, they are sure to have problems.

That's right up there with the studies that show that red wine and chocolate are good for us. I like those studies!
