And so...the "recession" begins

Disney just laid off thousands of employees. Other companies are doing the same.
Hollywood became so toxic that people have fled both its products and its crazies who pontificate politically. Union excesses have also done a great deal of damage. It's long past time that entertainment media creation should have been broken up and dispersed away from radical culturally extreme parts of the country anyway.

Little of that is related to "tariffs" or "recession fears" or "inflation" but instead predatory pricing and disgusting policies and practices and products. "Go woke, go broke" as fans and casual consumers both walk away.

well fashions do come and go and maybe dysneland was just another fashion - entertaining for some and made money and employment but all things have an ending - I'm still thinking of the Walt Dysney era!! took the kids to the Florida one once on the way home from HK!!

Disney is just the latest in a growing number of companies that have announced layoffs this year.

It feels like the economy is shifting gears. It could be for many reasons including tariffs, AI, changes in consumer spending, etc…

I don’t need to understand it in order for me to do a bit of personal financial restructuring of my own. Pay off debt, hoard cash, and basically get ready for whatever comes next.

There is no downside to strengthening your personal balance sheet.

I was surprised to hear the other day that our local Walmart is laying off. It happened to a friend of mine. We also have a lot of warehouses in our city that are pretty significant employers and it’ll be interesting to see what happens with them.

Actually, this is what I’ve been doing the last four months. I bought anything that I anticipated needing within the next four years and I’m doing as much consulting work as I can and banking as much additional money as possible.

That and their abysmal movies that nobody wants. This is entirely self-inflicted. They have poisoned everything they have touched. It's so bad that Disney is a laughingstock.
Disney brand and subsidiaries are extremely popular. They may not be to your taste or mine, but we're not their target audience. That would be our children and grandchildren.

Movies from the Disney brand itself, plus Marvel, Pixar, Lucasfilm and 21st Century Fox (all of which they own), tend to be blockbusters. By revenue, it's 48th on the Fortune 500 list of biggest companies in the US.

Their stock a year ago was $101.50 and closed yesterday at $113.49. The Dow Jones Industrial Average a year ago was 42,270.07 and today it's 42406.12.

A laughingstock? More like a laughing-all-the-way-to-the-bank stock.

Disney makes the very best movies. They are classics and will be shared through many generations.
