Are we getting a little too uptight about stuff on the net?

There are some threads about statements, which were on twitter, & others. They were pretty stupid, insensitive statements. But, judging from the reactions to some on the net, those authors should have been impaled, drawn and quartered, gutted, hanged, guillotined, and then really punished. Are we getting a little too uptight about stuff on the net? We are getting all riled up over what some jackass posts? Where does all that anger come from?

I think the majority of people are faithful followers of whatever the norm or majority are doing. If most people seem outraged then that is deemed the appropriate acceptable thing to post. Plus people are behind a screen. It’s usually easier for people to vent hostility while anonymous and the internet provides that very platform. Of course not everyone is like this but I believe most are.

must always remember a forum is for vetting your personal view =sometimes we dont agree of what the op has wrote
but its ll part of the running of it = keeping out of politics is a good thing -I have seen a lot of anger on site ends with name calling
waste of energy if u ask me - but trolls can mingle in with new name too-

Not me..I try not to be quick to take offence, or too quick to offend!!... ( I do know to which thread you refer tho')

We all talk about how easily the younger generation take offence now, it's easy to be outraged from behind a screen perhaps we as the older generation should show them how much more easily it is to relax rather than be angry all the time

They call those people Trolls over here and any
that threaten violence and death are investigated
by the police, especially if they are attacking any
politician or celebrity.

If anybody offends me I usually ignore them, to
reply is inviting them to retaliate.

Mike.

I found that some think of the net as some sort of blood sport. They are ready to go to war over really stupid stuff. Some jackass types some tripe, and others want to hang 'em from a tree. Not many can find the brakes on their emotions. And everybody and his grandmother is an all knowing expert in every phase of human knowledge. Plus, there is out and out deception on the net. It reminds me of freshman year in high school all over again.

If you see someone advocating violence, you should report that post. It seems people are posting reportable stuff if "impaled, drawn and quartered, gutted, hanged, guillotined" "blood sport" and "hang 'em from a tree" are things you're actually reading here.

True. Not easy though imo as Trolling is can be very upsetting to those who they choose to target and leaves scars even if the target moves on. Having good Moderators on a forum is key to dealing with this bullying. Another name in cyberland is Keyboard Warriors, those who set out to be aggressive and disruptive and some forums have been known to shut down because of these nasty individuals.

I believe in the KISS principal (keep it simple, stupid) because it works for me. Whether Christmas or the Internet, it works for me. Just one month tomorrow is Christmas Eve & I haven't done any shopping & I don't intend to. LOL You might say I'm free; real free. As far as the Internet, I don't spend hours on it as some do. I don't do Twitter & I have given up on Facebook. I used to look at Facebook but for me, it's a complete waste of time. I don't need pictures of someone's cookies, videos of dogs dancing or videos of cats playing with string. I also used to look at about 1/2 dozen news sites. Finally one day I just got fed up with the constant bombardment of bad news. For the last month I only spend 20 minutes looking at the local paper. I don't need to see or hear all the garbage news & you know what? I am a much happier person for not knowing all the bad news. Who needs it? I do check this senior site because I find that there is usually some good points being made & the average person here has something to say that I can understand. There you have my "secret" to happiness: no cable TV, no Twitter/Facebook, no starring at a smartphone for 10 hours each day because I don't own want & don't want one & no Christmas shopping. Plenty of good 50/60s music, good library books, daily walks outdoors, sing-along with my guitar & only 2.5 hours of TV in the evening watching some good shows on Britbox or my DVD collection that includes Gunsmoke, Streets of San Francisco, Little House On the Prairies, Twilight Zone & Naked City. Ah, life is good!

Where does all the anger come from? It comes from paying attention to the trolls. I was seething about their provocations for the longest time but then I learned to ignore them!

People are getting overly sensitive to everything these days. They're so easily offended by anything & everything it's ridiculous.

have not seen or read any threads advocating violence-are we talking about other sites?

puncturing our staid countenance is good and bad, depending on you stance.
perhaps, a statement that makes you angry may also make you thing. unfortunately,
the 'thinking,' comes after you have told the person their an ogre

There are some wonderful men on this Forum who usually come to my defense. In my "'Measure of a man" thread, I was called an "arrogant white racist". On my "pray for America" threads. again I was the target of hate. There are a few very mean, vicious women out there!
Everyone is not warm and friendly.

Very well put.
There are a lot of pathetic people about who need someone to bully. It's easy to do that on the internet. One can't help wondering what on earth they did before social media....picked on little kiddies perhaps?

Have read some here advocating violence, it’s no different than anywhere else.

I usually just ignore things on the internet that annoy me. I was on another forum before I found this one and everyone was very nice until I answered something in a Political thread. I got attacked , to the point that I even got corrected for my spelling. I got insulted so many times so I just ignored it. I thought I was talking to intelligent adults, but I was wrong. If I stop in there anymore I say what I want and ignore the ignorant people.

Unfortunately, on the internet you can be anything. On another site, a person generated "sock puppets" of a Romanian girl with a rich father. She supposedly got married and adopted a one-legged orphan. She was kicked off the site. On another site, she claimed she quit her job and became a flight instructor. I spoke to the owner of the airport she supposedly flew from and he never heard of her, and the FAA had no record of her as a pilot or an instructor.
The reason that upset me is because I am a pilot and I was a flight instructor.

The world is becoming more and more polarized. Unfortunately, this forum is no different.
