Are you a "Senior" OR an "Aging" citizen?

Not long ago I was returning to my van when a gentleman with a small dog asked if would look after his dog for a few minutes while he went into a shop. I said OK, but when he emerged, it seemed that he was in the mood for a 'blether' and I was treated to the local history of the area. Eventually he asked me how old I was. 72 next month. Oh, he said, you're just a 'spring chicken', I'm 86. Must say, he looked pretty well on it.
For the rest of that day, I was a spring chicken before returning to my normal state of being a 'crumbly'.

I just say I'm old. The other day, two teenage girls helped my husband through the doors into a restaurant. I thanked them, and said "I'm old and we are lucky because helpful people like you live here. In other places, the younger folk often don't seem to notice old peoplel. Thank you." Their mother popped up (I hadn't seen her until then), and she was so proud of her daughters. Big smile on her face.

BUT I don't say I'm old except when I'm talking to really young people. They are thinking it, so I'm direct.

I've had so many older people call me ''just a kid''... lol... I look at photos of my granny at the same age as I am now.. and no-one in their right mind in those days would have described her as a kid

I don't think either term is really bad. It is just a way to single us out from the others. When you are growing up they call you by the term children or teenagers. After that is pretty much by age, twenties, thirties, etc. Who wants to be called by sixties or seventies? The term senior citizen at least doesn't tell your age exactly, not that it matters much to me.

Love your new avatar @Mizmo
Thank you....
I will leave for a little while.
I have one of those people who has been following me around the social net for years, not trolling exactly, but in an uncomfortable way so don't like to leave pics on too long though now I am older they may not recognize me. I don't want this person joining this group.

Lovely image of you, @Mizmo , I like to see who I am conversing with. Thanks for sharing with us!

I'll go with the "senior" tag. I really prefer "middle aged". I intend to live until 100 or so, it sort of fits.
After all, everyone is "aging", aren't they? :cautious:

You're not your Gran, Hols. You look very young. 😊

I don't have a preference really. I consider myself a senior in an aging population. But I also think that aging, to a certain extent, is in the mind. I try to stay fit and active but my husband (who is 8 years my junior) thinks and acts old. I go to the gym, he doesn't. I walk, he doesn't. I do yard work, he doesn't. He's just getting that "old" mindset.

I like going to the gym because no matter your age, people there all talk to each other like...well, people!

I was at the thrift store and heard two women discussing "granny chic" whatever that is.

I'm not really sure what I am. I'll also go with older, 62, over 60, retirement age. Not retired though.
What is granny chic style?

It's all about mixing old and new elements

I try to drive any labels regarding my age out of my head lest I start believing them and act that way. I'm gonna pretend I'm still young until it kills me and it just might.
