Are you set in your ways or open to new experiences?

The world needs more love
Given the opportunity would you be willing to experience something out of your comfort zone or are you happier retiring to your trusted recliner for a 15 minute nap? Then, there are those like me who think they are open to new new experiences but mostly dream about them while napping for 15 minutes in their recliners.

I don't like the idea of getting out of one's comfort zone. I've spent too much of my life being uncomfortable for no reason.

As to trying new things, I'm interested in trying VR. If that counts as a new experience, I'm in.

If the new experience carries the (higher) risk of getting ill, hurt or dead, I'll pass. Those are not on my bucket list.

No one has offered me anything new, so I'm stuck, to live out my life wishing someone would. So, I make myself content and send my mind on the new alone. Getting old sucks when it comes to adventures. I bask in memory and imagination.

I'm perfectly happy staying in my comfort zone. *IF* a new experience would come along, it would be something of my own choosing and not something that was forced on me or beyond my control.

One of my favourite adventures is to go outside, say in an isolated bushy area such as in a park or reserve. I sit still and silently, and I am prepared to do so for many hours. But in most cases, it only takes 20-30 minutes before I get visiting birds, and other wildlife. Sometimes I get a bird to perch on my head or shoulder, or leg. They often look at me with an intrigue. They reveal their true nature without fear. My heart always feels very much at home with nature. Such encounters stay with me for a very long time.

A huge part of such an adventure is not knowing what is going to happen next. If I expect something, it often does not happen. Or should I say, I unknowingly censor and reject everything else but my expectations.

I live in NYC. Pigeons, starlings, sparrows abound. As for other wildlife here, No Thank You! :ROFLMAO:

Am I set in my ways? Yes and no.
No, in that I have a definite routine. When I was way younger, having a routine was something I hated. The idea of doing the same thing at the same time, back then, was like "just shoot me". Now, I gotta do it.
Yes. I like doing weird stuff, but that does not include sky diving, jumping off mountains, anything with snakes, bats, or things you have to sign a waiver not to sue, if you get on it.

How unfortunate if those were to be my only two options. I spend the vast majority of my waking hours doing neither.

At my age, I've considered most potential "new" activities and ideas many time over, acting on some and rejecting others. I'm at a point now where I have no interest "expanding my range of experience" simply to be able to say I've done so. Still, if something intriguing were to present itself, I'm not adverse to pursuing it.

The new has little attraction to me now. I don’t feel limited by the familiar but find nuance in it. I have no more interest in trading my experience for someone else’s than in trading life partners. Time spent with new partners would follow a predictable pattern too. Ultimately to cover new ground in a relationship one must see where one relationship will take you.

If I can’t find any new in the old then I’ll do without it.

The thrill of jumping out of airplane with a bag of rags strapped to my back doesn't appeal to me either.
But along with experiencing the culture of Costa Rica I'd really like to try this.
Unmatched Zipline Adventures | Sky Adventures
I really enjoyed ziplining here in the mountain area of our local community, my Yoga teacher works there as his main side job: Ziplines at Pacific Crest

My step-daughter & SIL vacationed in Costa Rica a couple years ago and ziplined. She said that there aren't as many safety features as in the States, but I'm thinking there are was less lawyers in CR than the US. ;)
