Art, anything goes...

I love the symbolism of a tall ship with full sail, it speaks Freedom to me.
My pacifier for that wanderlust I have had and couldn't fulfill

I once worked with a guy who drew a detailed drawing of a masted ship like that off the top of his head. It was Columbus Day coming up and he drew it as a header on the top of a football pool.

I have always loved this art form. It's called Dazzle Camouflage – AKA Razzle Dazzle. It started with the navy during World War I and continued in WW II. They painted ships with these wild, geometric patterns in contrasting colors. The goal wasn't to make the ship disappear, it was to make it harder for the enemy subs who were trying to figure out a target ship's speed, size, and what direction it was heading to get a good aim for a torpedo. They never determined for sure if it worked or not but thousands of ships were painted.

It's pretty cool how something designed for war is now an art form. You can spot that same kind of Razzle Dazzle inspired artwork on all sorts of modern things, everything from handbags to luxury yachts.
