Avian Extroverts

Love it.
My thought was along these lines.

You shoudda seen the one that got away. It was this bigggg.
Don't make me laff.

BTW Who's Minnie pearl?

Minnie Pearl was a country music legend. She starred on the TV show Hee Haw, and became famous for wearing a hat with the price tag still dangling in front. Dang it, she paid good money for that hat, and she wanted everyone to see how expensive it was!

Whenever someone forgets to take the price tag off a garment, they are called "Minnie Pearl."

They are an annoyance rather than a big problem.
Lacking large predators we have to out up with fearless small scavengers.
Not exactly Jurassic Park where I live.

We call the ibis bin chickens because they scavenge on garbage.
They also hang around outdoor cafes and will swoop on anything they can.
So do our sea gulls.

Beautiful bird photo. Where I live in New Jersey we don't have many colorful birds especially large ones. Our red Cardinal stands out in the snow and the Ruby throated Grosbeak, blue birds, wild canaries and woodpeckers are pretty.

Are they big birds? The article I read said they make terribly smelly nests.

Here in my backyard in Tucson I see woodpeckers, roadrunners, lots of tiny brown birds (?), verdins, and quail. Rarely Harris Hawks and an owl is supposed to live in the neighborhood, too. Once in a blue moon I see a cardinal. I have a female hummer that comes to my yard a couple of times daily. I read they live to be 8 years old, such tiny birds!

Every time I look at birds I never cease to be amazed that, according to scientists, they are the descendants of flying dinosaurs.

Plenty of Ibis here, but they are not a problem.

We greatly miss the Hummingbirds that were our friends in Arizona. I have only ever seen one here in the east.

Another look at our iconic avian extroverts

The suphur crested cockatoo, kookaburra and magpie.

I occasionally have some cockatoos visit and I hear the kookaburras early in the morning in the mating season. I have long had a pair of magpies nesting in the tall eucalyptus in our front yard. I don't feed them but I do keep water available in a bird bath in the back yard. I love knowing that they are surviving in the suburban environment,
