No humming birds but we have honey eaters of various sizes.@Warrigal = Just curious, do you have hummingbirds in Australia?
They are an annoyance rather than a big problem.
Lacking large predators we have to out up with fearless small scavengers.
Not exactly Jurassic Park where I live.
We call the ibis bin chickens because they scavenge on garbage.
They also hang around outdoor cafes and will swoop on anything they can.
So do our sea gulls.
Here in my backyard in Tucson I see woodpeckers, roadrunners, lots of tiny brown birds (?), verdins, and quail. Rarely Harris Hawks and an owl is supposed to live in the neighborhood, too. Once in a blue moon I see a cardinal. I have a female hummer that comes to my yard a couple of times daily. I read they live to be 8 years old, such tiny birds!Beautiful bird photo. Where I live in New Jersey we don't have many colorful birds especially large ones. Our red Cardinal stands out in the snow and the Ruby throated Grosbeak, blue birds, wild canaries and woodpeckers are pretty.
Luv this picture, warri!Bin chickens in Sydney. All you need to know.
