Yes, we have those coming into our place. Pileateds. Most often one at a time, but vary occasionally two. These gView attachment 370902uys were on the tree in my yard a few years ago.
The poor things! Looks like they're trying to wake up their friend. How sad.I've always been amazed at the intelligence of corvids (crows, magpies, ravens, and similar birds). I've witnessed this "death ritual" when I lived in Utah some years ago.
I would bet that the magpie that's being vocal is the dead magpie's mate. They mate for life. The poor things! Looks like they're trying to wake up their friend. How sad.![]()
Looks like a sun conure. Cute little parrots!
Nothing more majestic than an adult bald eagle.
I agree. I love taking photos of bald eagles. There’s so many where we live. They make it easy to take a good photo.Nothing more majestic than an adult bald eagle.
We see them only occasionally here. Ospreys much more often. Ten years or so back, a bald eagle nested above a river channel, within a four-minute walk from our place. It displaced the resident blue heron for a couple years, then it moved on.
We had a mating pair about 8 kilometres down the road and one year fed them fish remains. It was very exciting. That’s how we got some of the photos we have. We could even see their nest. Not really well though. We see them only occasionally here. Ospreys much more often. Ten years or so back, a bald eagle nested above a river channel, within a four-minute walk from our place. It displaced the resident blue heron for a couple years, then it moved on.
Heartbreaking, isn't it?I've always been amazed at the intelligence of corvids (crows, magpies, ravens, and similar birds). I've witnessed this "death ritual" when I lived in Utah some years ago.
