Did not know that, it makes a difference.

Now I think it may just come down to her getting fair treatment compared to Russian citizens with similar crimes.

To clear up some of the misconception about using marijuana or traveling to Russia. The article explains she lived there for 6 & 1/2 years. Explained in the article she had CBD oil for use in a vape.

I thought she was foolish when I first heard this story. Like...WTH was she thinking?! One should never carry such substances into a foreign country. But IF she really didn't realize they were still in her suitcase, then I feel for her. So many times I have found things in the nooks and crannies of my suitcases that I forgot were there. I don't know how small those things are, so I can speak to the probability of her lying or not. I think 9 years is probably steep but compared to what? I admit I haven't kept up with the particulars of this case.
 
She was warned against traveling to Russia because of the fraught situation with Putin, Ukraine, etc. And she went anyway. Her Russian "teammates" were more important.

So, on top of that, she brings drugs with her, creating a perfect opening for Putin to hold her hostage and strongarm America out of something that Russia wants. Like Biden doesn't have enough on his plate, without idiot Americans creating even more problems for him.

I do think she is an idiot, and deserves the 9 1/2 years. Let her stay there.
 
We have all done stupid things, and we are all fortunate if we didn't suffer deleterious consequences.

I think she is a political pawn. I hope she gets rescued.

To say I am not fond of Russia is a massive understatement. Aside from facts, I am biased in my view toward them, and I intend to stay that way. My relatives on the German side lived in the former East Germany, my mother escaped from there, and I have heard the stories of what it was like when the Russians came to Leipzig, and thereafter.

I agree. She said she was in a hurry when she packed her things. I mean like, give her a break, we all have to excuse and forgive ourselves for doing foolish things and not thinking clearly at times. 9 years is a long time for CBD! It's legal here in most places!! Marijuana is going to be legal here all over soon, thank God, I mean all over the USA. Oh yeah, I'm not going to argue here about it with anyone. It's my right to my opinion-free speech.
 
Four things that don't sit right about this deal.

1. She like every other athlete in the WNBA is well schooled on all schedules of the DEA prohibited drugs template.

2. Every American citizen no matter who they are or who employs them especially intelligence agencies "Except authorized members" employed by foreign embassies and consulates with their diplomatic pouches are constantly reminded of the consequences of traveling to any country with anything even remotely considered contraband or paraphernalia advocating the the overthrow of the hosts countries governmental body especially those with harsh and strict penalties including life sentences and worst the death penalty.

3. She had to know that claiming her LGBTQ status because she is some self absorbed American athlete excuse doesn't work in nation states who kill anybody that ignores their well known and very well documented official and unofficial penalties regarding anything that is contrary to their cultural beliefs.

4. The media needs to stop this rather embarrassing hype about King Vladimir Putin using her, Trevor Reed and Paul Whalen as pawns for a three to one prisoner exchange for Viktor Bout. Russia has zero need for a global arms dealer that was pulled from under a rock and exposing him to the world like anybody even cares. Comrade Bout well knows what fate befalls him if he is exchanged in this embarrassing tactic. King Putins conventional warfare military is literally on a massive bloodthirsty killing spree the likes of Monarch Stalin. His most viable tactic is probably negotiating with NATO to curtail the supplying the Ukraine with the tactical anti-missile systems. Probably holding NORD-3 as a wildcard.

I know, I know but vocabulary was never my strong smoot, lol.

I also read that "she" is not really a "she" , but is a "he" ??? And could not cut it for the NBA [mens] , so she/he sneaked in to the [womens] game ?

I think this [young person] is going to sit for a while, because the more I find about her/him and the case . The more I find many American people just do not care about his/her's predicament.
 
Comparing our drug laws with Russia is also a mistake. They don't follow our laws or our attitude concerning most things. Doesn't matter if we're giving it out free in the States, she was arrested in Russia. She is 31 years old. When I took the risk I was an idiotic 20 year old in hippie times, peace & love. 31 is a grown up, she should have known better. I should have too.

I always say people don't get sense until they're in their 40's. My young-uns laugh at me when I say it, but I think they secretly agree. :LOL: She may have been born a woman but damn if she don't walk and sound like a man!

Former NM Governor and UN Ambassador Bill Richardson is on the case now. He has had considerable success in the past in hostage negotiations and returns although his own record isnt perfectly spotless. I think she is lucky he is willing to try to take it on.
If she does get back I hope she will quietly fade into the woodwork, and not try to capitalize on her situation and consequences.
 
This same stuff has been going on for years. It is big news when a celebrity is caught. I think it is all a big political dog and pony show. Too bad when your a celebrity, you get your name printed all over the world. If you are the average Joe, whom there are mucho more of these, nobody hears of it. There are some who's parents and friends do everything possible to free their friends and family.
