Change in your country

Thanks! Yup I agree that it won't happen.
It might. Fascism is a real threat to our country right now, and if it takes hold, I could accuse someone like you of doing drugs or some other "crime," and you would wind up in the (metaphoric) gallows. That's the problem I have with the death penalty: people wrongfully accused of a crime could wind up paying with their lives.

but it would have to be proved.. and if proved beyond any reasonable doubt, there would be no problem,,

Even now, there is a big difference between how the rich, and the poor are treated in our court system. He with the high priced lawyer often goes free, even though they are guilty as sin, and inversely a poor man who is innocent has many, many times spent years in prison for a crime he didn't commit.

Different country different way's the laws work...

Compromise is all most impossible in the strict 2 party system that the US has now.
The US doesn't have a 2-party system. Sadly, even a lot of Americans think that.

Ten political parties were represented in the 2020 presidential election. Additionally, there are multiple political parties limited to state elections. I've been politically affiliated with a "3rd party" since I was in my 30s.

What I would change, if I could - I would get money out of politics, and I'd do it so thoroughly that any average citizen could become president. IMO, if the $$ was taken out of politics (iow, away from politicians), a host of other problems would practically solve themselves.

Every nation has a slew of problems that need to be changed. Right now in Australia the problem of certain workers being underpaid, undervalued and overworked needs to change. A recent decision by the Fair Work Commission will see age care workers receive a 15% pay increase with more to come later. This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to underpaid and undervalued workers. Even with this increase age care workers will still receive less than someone who works as a cashier at a large hardware chain.

We have states, now, paying bounties for turning in your neighbor if she has a miscarriage or you think... with no proof... she may have gone out of state to have an abortion. The accuser gets dollars in his/her pocket. The accused gets arrested and has to prove in a court of law she did nothing illegal. On that topic, however, the current laws are written leaving what is "illegal" to subjective interpretation.

Whether it be the homeless, the immigrants, the folks who cannot afford a good attorney, etc. I would rather see Constitutional rights have priority over a rush to judgement.

jeez are you serious ?.. People reporting women for having an Abortion?.. has the USA got a little fat dictator for a leader ?

I like immigrants so I don't find them much of a problem. But I would like the people of the US and the candidates that they vote for, to go back to accepting results of elections with grace and dignity. Don't threaten people with other opinions. And let a woman make her own choices about her body. Also realizing that climate change is a real thing.

It has really gotten bad, here, since the SCOTUS gutted Roe v Wade. Governors and state legislatures are out of control. Women are traveling 300 to 500 miles to other states for decisions that should be between a woman and her doctor. Doctors can now be charge with felonies. 10 year old rape victims are being forced to carry to term. IMHO, health decisions should be between a woman and her physician(s). Health decisions should not be made by politicians. I better stop there and leave this thread or will find myself getting too "political".

My proposal -- and I'm serious -- would be for age limits on political office holders. No one could hold any Federal or state office -- including Senate, SCOTUS, Congress, POTUS -- after their 72nd birthday.

Think about it. That would get rid of Pelosi, McConnell, Grassley, Feinstein, Clinton, Warren, Sanders, Trump, Biden and so many others in one fell swoop. It would be great!

And there's more to it than that. I don't think people that old (and I include myself -- I'm 70) can develop or even properly entertain new ideas. And we certainly need new ideas to get us out of the mess we're in.

I'm the fittest 70 year old I know, mentally and physically. But I still forget things, and my energy level is not what it was. I shouldn't hold public office and neither should anyone much older than I.

Bring back the universal sense of humor...what in the world has happened to universal humor? Its what our country needs badly- its the leaven that enables the cake to rise. Cultivate the ability to see the ridiculous. Its like a powder keg out there to make a joke now days.
Something's missing and its a good old fashioned belly laugh.

I have a solution but people might not like it. LOL I would start by rounding up all homeless people and putting them in an institution. I would have a zero tolerance for drugs selling and drug use. I would reinstate the death penalty for crimes instead of clogging up prisons and making tax payers have to pay for it or taking chances on someone feeling sorry for a criminal and letting them back out to murder again.

Yes in the beginning it might be bad because the situation has been allowed to get out of control and there's so many of them. A LOT of people would be rounded up. But future generations would be afraid to even try drugs if it could mean loss of their freedom for life. People would only live to murder once.

A drug addict can't remain a drug addict in prison or an institution with no access to drugs and they won't be on the street living like animals either. They won't be out committing crimes to try to pay for their drug habit if they are locked up. I have compassion for drug addicts and homeless, and that compassion is WHY I think society has to deal harshly with the situation to keep it from festering and growing. When a leg or a foot is full of gangrene, you cut it off to keep it from spreading all over the body. If there are no drug addicts on the streets to buy drugs, there's no profit for drug dealers to sell drugs.

And the borders just need to be closed to anyone entering illegally. Those who come legally are welcome because they can sustain themselves. But we can't even sustain the ones born here let alone allowing more illegals to come.
Oh, this was difficult for me to read on so many counts, but I will only address a small portion. I was a street kid, ran away from home to live on the streets of Vancouver. Why? Better to live there than be further exploited by my family. A “client” had informed me I would soon be trafficked to the

Middle East after my virginity was restored. I escaped, several of my stablemates did not. I was seventeen. I did not do drugs, nor was I mentally ill. I certainly did not deserve to be committed. I also work with vets suffering from PTSD. Some are or have been homeless. To casually commit those who gave their all to protect us, horrifies me.

Sorry, Liberty, I like a good laugh as much as the next one. But I fail to see anything funny about overthrowing our beautiful, powerful, sacred democracy, in favor of what? Fascism? Blind hero worship? Is it funny that a nut case sneaks into the home of a dedicated legislator, who has been working her butt off for this country for umpteen years, and beats her 82-year-old husband over the head with a hammer? Oh yes, that's a real belly laugh!

Some things are decidedly not funny.

I doubt that there was a whole lot of laughing in those camps, not by the prisoners, anyway.

And what's with this "bring back the good, old-fashioned belly laugh" thing, anyway? We are going through a horrific national crisis right now, but who says we have stopped laughing? There are still plenty of comedy shows on TV, lots of joke sites on the internet, and so on. Jokes and cartoons are flying around from phone to phone all the time. And plenty of movies that are supposedly funny, anyway.

In the party room of my building, there are table games (cards, tiles, etc.) all the time. Go near that room when it is occupied, and you'll hear lots of friendly chatting and laughter. And my community even has a "comedy and humor" club.

So, I'm curious, Liberty. Where did you get the idea that we have stopped laughing? Isn't that what they call a "straw man" argument? Setting up a false statement in order to make some kind of point, but the original statement has no merit?

Or if your life is as sad as all that, I suggest that you find some new friends!

Watch Weird: The Al Yankovic story for some good laughs! Now streaming for free on Roku (with commercials, but not too many).

Is the limit on political contributions actually enforced in Canada with any success? If something like that were legislated here, people would be trying to figure out how to get around it within milliseconds.
