Colonoscopy: has anyone had one…

I've had three or four IV sedated and the last one was in Feb. of this year.....no discomfort during or after the procedure.

The worst part of the whole deal was drinking the yucky stuff the day before and all the poopin'.

Tip, have lots and lots and lots of toilet paper handy. :)

And puppy pads between where you are and the toilet.

My chemist gave me a good idea when taking the prep. He said to use cold water from the fridge, mix the prep and swallow it at given times using a straw. It went down very well without the taste making you shudder. Another good idea would be to wheel the t.v. into the bathroom as it could be minutes before the next explosion.

I had one a couple months ago. Same kind of prep. When I got there and got ready a nurse showed me a picture of a toilet bowl with water in it. It was almost completely clear. She asks me if that is what my last BM was like. I said it was a little brown. WRONG ANWER!!! She said we have to wait until tomorrow after I prep again. I said No way, She says way, we get the Doctor in there and I told him. It must be the coffee ( ground ), because I followed the prep to a T. He said it would be risky if they couldn't see well. I said go ahead, if it's no good I'll pay for it anyway...I am not prepping again today/night.

Everything went ok. :) No problems at all.

Had a colonoscopy 6 years ago, they gave me propofol. I have a colonoscopy scheduled for next week, they better give me something.
Me too. I’m really dreading it. They use a light sedative and I must be picked up in the hospital by a known person. Can’t even take a taxi home to my husband.

Last time I’m sure I could have popsicles and jello, as long as it wasn’t red or purple. I hate Gatorade. The only time I drink it is for this special event.

without sedation? I’m needing a colonoscopy but cannot find transportation.

I had the no transportation problem as my wife doesn't drive due to a medical condition. I just told them I had someone to drive me. Then after it was over I waited till no one was looking and just walked out the door and drove myself home. What were they gonna do? Tackle me?

My home visit doc has mentioned it a few times. And my answer is always the same. Ya want something to do ? Fix what we know are my problems , heart disease, arthritis , spinal stenosis, neuropathy, pre-diabetes, [they still list me in that category] . Why the hell go looking for something else that ya can't correct after putting me through an absolutely invasive procedure .

I had one a few years ago without sedation. It was painless, but the prep was horrible! I could barely get all the liquid down. By the time I was swallowing the last glassful I was worried my gag reflex would get triggered and I'd vomit everything up and have to start all over.

Depending on how long ago it was, the very very horrid drink is now just horrid. There are a few tricks I learned. Store the water in the fridge until it’s ice cold. Use a straw, put it at the back of your tongue and gulp that stuff down. Not pleasant, but I was like you the first two times I did this.

Mine is this coming Friday (June 28th) and tomorrow I have to start a restricted diet - no foods with any nuts or seeds (poppy, sesame. sunflower, tomatoes, cucumbers. squash, eggplant, corn or popcorn).

Wednesday I can't have any RAW fruit or vegetables (cooked or canned are okay).

Thursday, I can only consume clear liquids and they can't be red or purple (which leaves out all the good tasting ones). I CAN have bullion, jello (if it's not red or purple), popsicles (not red or purple), black tea or coffee, juice (only apple, white cranberry, white grape), soft drinks, yellow or brown crystal lite, sweetners and water. I CAN'T have anything red or purple, creamer or any dairy, juice containing pulp, orange juice, pudding, yogurt, ice cream, sherbet or any solid food. Also no mints, hard candy, cough drops or gum.

Things I'm supposed to do without that will be no hardship at all - alcoholic beverages, marijuana, Kratom (whatever that is) or hallucinogenic mushrooms.

If it’s like our hospital, you have to have a designated person come into the hospital and pick you up. A taxi driver or stranger doesn’t qualify. They’re very strict. I’ve thought about this problem.
same here @ Jules

It has to be a designated person who signs me both in and out of procedure.
Taxi, Uber, or related similar things not accepted. Very strict as you said...

debodun: Good luck with the colonoscopy. At least when they have finished you can look forward to a nice sandwich and a coffee or tea.

When I had my first colonoscopy they would let you have one egg and a piece of white toast before 8am the day before the procedure. By the next one they said no solid food. After doing one that way and feeling miserable I went back to the small breakfast. It makes a big difference in the way I feel and I have always been cleaned out completely.

I, too drove home back on my own very easily after the procedure, however as its policy, the attended nurse(very nice person) called my son to pick me up and watched us drive away to make sure everything is in order.
