Do you agree that Wolf Whistling should be made a criminal offence ?

Gee, that’s been going on for ages. There was a time when some ladies enjoyed “a” whistle as they passed by. I can’t remember of ever getting a complaint. I’ve never done that, but I have done a few “wowees” under my breath.

I do not agree that wolf whistling should be made a criminal offence nor do I think it necessary here in the UK as most building companies have long since banned their employees from whistling or calling out to female passersby. The reports I read late last year referred to "street sexual harassment" and cited instances of stalking, harassment and sexual offences rather than wolf whistling although, the latter probably would be included. What I would be interested to know is how it would be policed given that most police forces now claim to be undermanned unless, of course, they are dealing with the welfare of protestors or attending the Notting Hill Carnival where they seem to be in abundance 🤷‍♀️

Trish you know exactly how it would be policed..the same way as the police now concentrate on so called hate speech, rather than serious issues.. :(

Actually, on that basis, they would probably arrive mob handed if a passing fella was reported as "whistling". :)

There have been several reports in the media that wolf whistling is to be categorised as a hate crime in the UK. This is untrue!!

It is possible wolf whistling in isolation would likely be classified as a hate incident, rather than crime, as it is not illegal. So wolf whistling alone is unlikely to result in prosecution. To make people people believe otherwise is utterly incorrect.

Wolf whistling will not be illegal unless it is part of a wider case of abusive behaviour, then it could not become illegal.
But it coud be recorded potentially as a hate incident, as the act itself is not illegal.
Basic research would have revealed this..
So guys, when you come to England and you see a pretty girl, whistle if you wish  ...

and No, this is not going ahead as the OP said!!!

What a totally stupid waste of time. Surely there are much more important issues with which to occupy their time!
you'd think so, but our country has fast slidden into Woke Country.. perhaps we could be called the Woke Capital of Europe... oh no we're not even a member of Europe now are we ! *sigh*

News agencies around the world are in the business of ‘selling stories’. Their method of selling stories is often done in a way to cause people to come back for more. Whether it is a newspaper to increase revenue or TV to increase ratings. To publish that wolf whistling will became a crime causes some to come back & read more. These agencies understand their audience.

Some agencies are worse than other. This became apparent to me when a news agency wasn’t interested in the positive things my employers was doing, as it didn’t fit their narrative. What we were doing would have pretty much shut down thair story. Instead they wanted to drag it out. They said to us they will go with their own angle of the story regardless of the positives we were doing.

To publish that wolf whistling will became a crime causes some to come back & read more. There is no crime of wolf whistling in the UK, in itself. And there won’t be any in the near future. I would bet my house on it.

Believe me, your house is totally safe!!

Oh, good grief, no! Politicians are trying to control everything we do. I mean, it’s a whistle, not an assault. And not an insult, either. This is where wokeness gets you.

How is anybody going to prove that it was a "wolf whistle" as opposed to somebody just plain whistling? Or is that going to be a crime, too
Booing can seem more agressive & upsetting to some before whistling ever would. Some would find it really offensive too. My money is on booing becoming a crime first. I might have to wait a very long time before I get paid out on that bet though.

You can find these media stories everywhere – some elaborate on them more than others. It gets a bit silly after a while. It’s just bad journalism. This example I’ve just found:
"Wolf-whistling, catcalling and staring persistently will be criminalised in England under plans backed by Home Secretary Suella Braverman, with jail sentences of up to two years".

If I were a newspaper journalist I would be tempted to report that the Home Secretary was thinking about criminalising, “loitering with the intent of using a pedestrian crossing.” And, “Wearing a loud shirt in a built up area after the hours of darkness, whilst in the possession of an offensive looking wife".

Can I add, “Singing unnecessarily in a public place without due care and attention”?
