Do you ever wish you had a different name?

My first name is a common name with a somewhat uncommon spelling. I always have to say, yes, but with a _____.

For some reason, as a child I wanted to be named "Esmeralda". Did I mention I was a strange child?

I have a friend by the name Esmeralda. She`s Hispanic-maybe it`s more commonly a Hispanic name?

I have always disliked my first name. I was named after my maternal grandmother-who had told my mom "If you don`t name the baby after me,I won`t love her as much as I do the others." Nice. She was pretty nutty. My middle name is after my dad`s sister, who pretty much said the same thing. She was also nuts. I don`t go by my given name,I have a nickname that I have been called since birth, thank God. I always said that when my grandmother passed,I would legally change it, but it`s been 26 years and I haven`t yet....

Where I used to work in Polk County Florida one of the Secretary's had two kids. A boy and a girl. And her husband had named them after two of his guns. The Girl was named "Kimber" and the boy was "Colt".

You probably think I am making that up, but I swear on my dead mother's grave it's true.

Polk County rednecks, ya gotta love em.

Heh. Here in 'the other redneck Polk County,' there's a young lawyer who chooses to go by his middle name- Colt.

In my late husband's family, all the kids (all 11 of them) went by their middle names. All the girls had the same first name (big Catholic family.....you can probably figure out what the name was). All the middle names start with the same letter. They recycle the names a lot so the same name shows up frequently in each generation. I never know who the hell they're talking about.....the live ones or the dead ones or the live ones with the same name or the dead ones with........

I don't mind my name ,except when I was young and in school. I was named after the nurse that delivered me. My Mom hadn't picked out a name because of a difficult pregnancy where she lost my twin in her 3rd month and they didn't think I would make it. My Dad asked the nurse her name and she said it was Barbara Jane. So my parents liked Barbara so they named me Barbara Ann. I'm happy they added the Ann because in grade school there were 5 other Barbara's in my class, and when the Nun called on any Barbara 5 girls stood up. I only had to stand up it she said Barbara Ann !

I had a crush on Gregory Peck also; so did a lot of girls back then. He was hot stuff when I was a kid. But I didn't name my son after him. My son is named Bruce, which turned out to be the name of the shark in
Jaws! ;)

Mine shortened to Pat,which I go by is fine with me...
My older brother, had a way of pronouncing Patricia that made my hair hurt...
Never been comfortable with Patty,it just doesn't suit me

There's a guy on one of the Alaska reality shows that named his dog Ruger.
I could see myself with Ruger as a name.....oh well, maybe in my next life.

I didn't like my middle name when I was younger. But, when I discovered that it was my g.grandfather's name, it was very cool. I gave that to my son, as his middle name.

My daughter got my mother's middle name as her middle name. ;)

I started out with the last name of Smith, then it was changed when I was two to Adams....I've thought about changing it again to Wolf, but now I'm so old it doesn't matter. My middle name started out as Jack, but my mother hated my dad so much she changed it the Jay. Us kids were too old to change our last name to her third husband's. He's only 9 years older than me, so no way I could consider him a father. He's 9 year younger than my mom, so he is taking care of her in her old age...she's 82 and just had her lady bits removed....ovarian cancer. He's had triple bypass, and prostate cancer. Mom seems to have survived, but still has more chemo....Life is like a doorknob, everybody gets a turn...I think I may go before mom, because God don't want her and the devil is afraid she'll take over.

I was the 3rd little boy in a row, and I guess my mother wanted a girl so my middle name is "Kay". It was the 40s and times were hard.

I've forgiven her.
