Does everyone know what an "Incel" is?

Men in this group seem to think that sex at first encounter with any female they fancy is their right and they become very angry when they get a knock back. They blame the female sex in general for their lack of conquests.

What happened to seeing a woman as attractive and wooing her gently and with respect?
If my father was still alive he could give them some lessons. So could my husband.

Actually, the men in the INCEL group are shy and introverted, not hedonistic. They're not entitled to sex within 5 minutes; heck, they don't know how to say "Hello."

I don't disagree that there are some men as you describe, but on the other hand there are women who don't drive in the slow lane, either.

I just became aware of this a few weeks ago. My grandson was telling me about it.

"Incel" is short for "involuntarily celibate" and generally refers to online groups of men who feel that they are unable to enter into sexual relationships. They blame women for their grievances, which they discuss in internet forums."
Teenage boy charged in Canada's first 'incel' terror case
From the BBC

https://news.yahoo.com/teenage-boy-charged-canadas-first-233115069.html

A Toronto teenager has become the first Canadian ever charged with carrying out an "incel" inspired terror attack.

The 17-year-old boy is accused of fatally stabbing a woman in February.

A 2018 attack in Toronto that killed 10 was also allegedly inspired by the ideology, but the attacker was not charged with terrorism.

I was just texting with my grandson about the murder in Canada, and this is how he explains it-

From what I saw there have been other terrorist types attacks from them but this was the first successful terrorism charge that stuck.

A similar ideology is what most of the mass shooters have anyway, Columbine for example, but now they're grouping together and stuff.

There's been an extremely bad thing happening in recent years with social media. Before if you were acting weird or had no friends you kind of changed just a bit to be a member of society. Now they just find others online and only go deeper into it.

It's kind of what's happening with left and right politics.

now with social media they can get friends, lots of friends, without changing. And they all feed into each other. So even the ones that back before, would have adjusted a bit aren't. And the ones that went bad now have a giant support group of the same horrible shit.

And the thing that not many people talk about is that now these guys really don't even try much because of internet porn.
Well I'm all for legalized prostitution. The Incels need it.

Not referring specifically to websites but only the two 'groups' in general- they're flip-sides of the same coin.. both hateful, and both wrong.
Yes, when looking at their extreme adherents.

It's as though people can't just live their own lives without some fringe element hijacking stuff and making it at someone else's expense.

I think there's an element that fears us coming together in common cause.

My grandson said they also like to wear fedora hats.
I tried looking this up, but it's too confusing,,,some say the proper hat is a Trilby.

Anyway, I don't care so much about the hats.

Thought that I would add my 2-cents worth. Years back, maybe around 2005 or so, there was a shooting at a gym in the Pittsburgh area that killed and wounded some people. At the time, we were not involved or had trained for the Incel Movement and in fact, until this had happened, I had never heard of it.

Now, here years later, this guy is a hero to these Involuntary Celibates, or Incels. This should just remind us that there is a lot of weird stuff going on out in the world that we may not be aware of, so we always needs to be vigilant with our surroundings.

This is why I always try to be nice to people (besides it being the right thing to do.)

It's not out of fear of what they may do in the moment, but when some folks are marginalized and feel they have no connection to the rest of us, the threshold for acting out like that gets lowered.

Not only can I not fathom doing such a thing, I can't imagine celebrating it.
But on a planet with nearly 8,000,000,000,000 (8 trillion) people...

Thanks for your input @911

I don't really know. I'm just parroting what I heard, wondering if anyone here was aware of this subculture. Why is anything a style among certain groups?
It's weird.

You don't know if these people are truly marginalized, or if they believe themselves to be more marginalized than they truly are because of how they think other's live.

Going back to the article...what does a 17 year old know about being "involuntarily celibate?" You're friggin' 17 years old!!! I don't understand the expectations that have not been met. Not at that age.

I'd hate to see what their upbringing (or lack thereof) was (or was not.)
