What to do? I have a 90lb chow. He came to me 5 years ago when my best friend died of a sudden heart attack. His last words were take care of Bear. Truth is he is just to much for me to deal with. He is the best dog, sweet, not a mean bone in his body. My two littles will snip at me sometimes but big dog never has.

He will not listen, he got after a possum last week, I had to wrestle him in the dirt for half an hour till I got him away from it. He will bark and not come in when I call. He sheds so much I can't keep up with cleaning. I am just so tired. I hate to have to give him up but what can I do? I am so tired and so sad.......I do not know what I should do.

Don't you know younger people who want to take him? My son would have loved to get a dog but for me it's way too expensive. Or maybe people who can't pay for it but do want to take him out.

He stayed with my son a few weeks when I had surgery. The dog alerts to everything and so barks a lot at night. Not good when you work!!

Have you found a good solution?

Can you afford to have a trainer come to your house and work with you and the dog together? It sounds to me like you could use some assistance in schooling the dog. 90 pounds is a big one when you’re not used to handling one that size.

how old is the dog by this time?

He is about 8. I have some feelers out. I am looking for someone like the Asher House. He would be so happy to have dog friends to play and lots of space to run.

Training would not be an option, the owner is really the one to be trained. It takes a great deal of human energy to be consistent leader.

As our dogs grow older, their needs change in ways that tug at the heart. They may wake us early, move a little slower, or need a bit more help than they once did. But every small moment we give them is a gift compared to the years of love, joy, and loyalty they’ve given us without hesitation.

These quiet early mornings become reminders of how deeply they trust us. Even when their bodies weaken, their love stays just as strong. They don’t mean to inconvenience us - they simply feel safest when we’re near, just like we once felt safest when they curled up beside us.

Caring for them in their later years isn’t a burden. It’s an honor. It’s a chance to repay the endless devotion they’ve shown, and to let them know that no matter how much time has passed, they’re still the heart of the home. ❤️❤️
