Forum member seriously injured

Holly, I don’t know much about your accident from an investigative manner, but you may have escaped the worser outcome. In my 37 years as a State Trooper, I saw and investigated several horrific accidents with some ending with the death of the occupants. Whether it be a child or an adult, it was a terrible time having to cut people, some alive and some deceased, out of their vehicle after a crash.

I always thought about having to deliver the death notice to a parent, husband, wife or other close relative. I knew deep inside that it wasn’t going to be received very well. There would be shock and tears. As the Trooper giving the notice, what words can anyone say that will relieve their pain? Moments that are still locked away in my brain.

I know you are grateful that it wasn’t worse and so are we here at SF. I sincerely hope you are able to be 100% again, but the memory of the accident may never fade away. I wish you the best of luck for a full recovery.

I know it won't fade away... it never will , how could it... the car overturned 3 times with me in it.... . It's an absolute miracle I got out alive and with the relatively few injuries I have.

The firefighters had to cut my clothes off.. and my jewellery.... but given how hard my car was hit to cause it to overturn 3 times is just down to the fact that as far as I'm concerned that Ford fusion was built like a tank.. and saved my life at the expense of it's own... that makes me cry just thinking of that.

These photos were taken by the emergency services at the scene

The fact that this happened on one of the busiest motorways in the UK, is an absolute miracle also that my car when it overturned among all the traffic didn't land on another car and injure or kill another person..

I have never been in a car accident where I was the driver.. I'm a good driver, so to lose my car which was a complete right off... .. to suffer this pain and injuries, , to have to have plastic surgery on the night of the accident in Accident & Emergency Resus at the hospital by 2 plastic surgeons working on me at 2am ... to save my arm and hand, ....

....to be home for weeks on end with nurses coming in to my home every few days to see to my injuries and wounds... to not be able to sleep for the pain, and be stuffed up with painkillers, all because of a stupid driver who was not obeying the rules of the road, and who walked away without any injury to herself... ...... ... I will never forget... never !!

I have started to reply on this thread several times and I just can't over how you weren't very very seriously hurt worse.
I can't possibly say anything that hasn't been said but I am so glad you survived it so that we could continue to enjoy your presence, your intelligence and your big big heart. You are one of those unforgettable shinning stars....Bless your heart!

Shocked and horrified at above pics. You so easily could have not survived. So grateful you did.
exactly... the fact I kept hold of the steering wheel.. that my seatbelts stayed buckled around me,I think saved me.. while the car was tumbling over and over and windows all smashing around me into the car.. even the windscreen frame caved on on the drivers side.. I ended up with glass in my mouth.. and one of the first people to run to my rescue from his car who was driving behind.. poured water into my mouth so I could spit out the glass .

Everything in my car was broken, incuding £150 worth of groceries from M&S I'd just literally been and bought....

That day I was wearing everything brand new... from underwear to my jewellery.. and everything had to be cut off me by the firefighters...

I agree with what Chic said. You are making an incredibly rapid recovery. If they ever need a poster child for wearing seat belts, they should tell your story (with pictures of the car),

A week ago, you sounded stunned and severely traumatized (understandably!) But now I'm beginning to see the normal, feisty Holly again.
The way this woman behaved and is continuing to behave is making me angry! But she's probably just scared to death about the consequences to her and she's mustering any defenses she can think of. I'm still angry, though. At the very least, she should be contacting you, begging your forgiveness and offering to help you in any way she can. Probably her lawyers aren't allowing that.

What a world we're living in.

But if this has any good side, you've found out what a huge number of friends you have all over the world, who very much care about you. At least there's that.

thanks Sunny...it's been almost a month now since it happened...

Every time I see your car I literally feel sick. It’s actually a miracle that you survived. I wish some of us lived near you so we could help you during your recovery. Sending hugs 🤗.

We're always hardest on ourselves..."WHY AM I NOT GETTING BETTER FASTER?" is our usual cry.

Don't push yourself, Hols. Listen to your body; it knows best. Just do what it says and things will happen in the right time.

As Dev Patel said in the Marigold Hotel movie, "All will be well in the end....and if it is not well, then it is not yet the end."

I’ve never heard of that and not something I would have thought to do. Good on him for knowing to do that.
I don't think he had come with the water for that intention, he'd brought a bottle of water to the car with the intention of giving me a drink, ... but when he got to me my mouth was full of glass, so he gave me the water telling me to spit out the glass...

That first guy and the second guy who was an American, who bound my arm and hand to try and stem the bleeding were Heroes... always will be in my mind !

You might want to have a friend take a permanent marker and write left leg or right arm so they know.
*chuckle* That is what is actually done whenever there is a choice (right vs left). I worked OR for years and the one thing that would stop a surgery from happening is not confirming multiple times which side was the correct operative side and marking it with a "skin" marker. Not marked? Surgery wasn't gonna happen.

Glass in the mouth? Yes, you are very, very lucky. I am sure the hospital people checked to make sure you didn’t swallow any of it. That may cause internal bleeding. Very lucky indeed.

BTW, your new car has the steering wheel on the wrong side. You should give the dealer a piece of your mind.

Honestly I know you all think you're amusing, but really I'm just going to ignore everyone who make comments about the steering wheel being on the wrong side ... it gets very old...

That glass part of it was the most horrifying thing to me, Holly. Did you swallow any of it? Was your mouth cut?
I didn't swallow any of the glass.. and it didn't cut my mouth.

At accident & emergency they had me strapped on a Trauma Board, and took me straight down to X ray to have a full body Ultrasound scan which searches all your organs as well for damage, no glass was found inside me...
