Good Bye Good People

Hmm, Lon never seemed like the rebellious type. I've never read any political posts from Lon ...

Well, I beg to differ about the "rebellious" part. :D Here are some posts from his "need new discussions" thread...

So start an exciting conversation then.

If I do ----I will surely be banned for being controversial or political.

I will start a new thread and watch what happens to it. The powers that be will surely say it's political even though it only requires a yes or no response.

So apparently he knew VERY WELL that he was going to get posts deleted but he did it anyway. (I didn't see the posts so I have to go by Matrix's comments above.) :eek:nthego:

Yes he showed rebellion which was why I didn’t understand what he was rebelling about.
Now I understand. He wanted to talk politics in a no politics forum.
Yep. I get it now.

Always amazes me why pople do this,if you are going to leave then just inform ADMIN and get then to delete you form the forum, why such a song a dance?..bit harsh but sounds like the "Poor me" syndrome..yep I know probably most will disagree, but see it so many times on forums, just sail off in to the sunset and be done with it.

A little unfair I feel... Lon is in his 80's, many of us have known him here for several years. if he were to suddenly disappear there would be a lot of concern for him by many people here , so IMO I'd rather know he's thinking of leaving the forum, than presume the worst ..

Good point, Holly. On these forums, most of us have no way of reaching each other, or if someone abruptly disappears, each other's families. We have no way of knowing if they are away on vacation, ill, angry, have decided to leave the forum, or dead! I think it's considerate for people to announce that they are departing.

Maybe a separate thread for Departures for those who choose to announce, or a sub-thread under Introductions. But if someone no longer wants to post and chooses to move on, that's their prerogative - they don't have to explain and they don't necessarily need or want people from SF trying to reach their family members. Besides, as we've seen on several occasions people often don't actually leave....they still lurk and often come back.

Lon has a severe, possibly profound hearing loss. Aside from the woulda shoudas of how he left it's important to note that the internet and forums like this are very important to people with hearing loss. Theycan be somewhat isolated from the world and this is a great way to stay connected.
I hope he does rejoin us at some point. His advocacy for the hearing impaired is valuable.

There are plenty of places where hearing impaired can interact on the internet. Lon's repeated thread deletions were not about hearing loss - it was because he kept creating threads about Trump, knowing it was against the rules.

Yes Lon, come back but don't keep trying to talk about you...know....who.

Personally I'd rather eat a bowl of spiders than talk about Stormy Daniels.

Yes I totally agree. Having relatives who are profoundly deaf, I know that since the onset of forums they no longer feel conversationally separated from the hearing world. Internet forums are superb for that reason..
