He opens and holds the door for his robot doggy friend.
Cool! But it's hard to think of a practical use for it.
I wonder how it locates the doorknob each time?
I'm scared.
A robot pet is an appliance; it has no personality; it does not have self-awareness. Like all appliances, it will wear out, die, if you prefer.Creepy, because they're headless! I have thought, seriously, about getting robot pets. I can't imagine being without my little real dog, at this time, but I know the time will come. (May it be very far away!) Having robot pets will avoid the heartbreak that all live pets bring, when they become late. Since I think that robots will eventually take over the world, and eliminate us, because we are the most dangerous species on this planet, I see having robot pets as just a logical step towards what will happen, over time, on Earth. (I'm not alone on thinking that robots will be the next Alpha "species" here. Musk warns people about that, now, and he is a guy who certainly has the deep intelligence to foresee the logical conclusion of creating machines that will become far more intelligent than their creators.)

If a robot would satisfy you as a pet, why not just make a pet of one of your appliances? There are people who spend more time with their cell phones or computers than they ever would with a pet: just give them names.
Would people be happier if the robot had a cute doggy head?

Just remember that the head is where the laser weapon is located.
But is he house trained?
Call it what you will but until it can......
Chase a car.....pee on a fire hydrant.....tree a cat.....bark at the doorbell.....chew up sneakers and enjoy drinking water from the toilet.
It ain't no dog.
Ohh, I love Frida! And I love how she's protected.
One day, robots will certainly have personality and self-awareness. As long as everything is hooked up and programmed correctly, robots will be just like us, in the not too distant future. After all is said and done, as a matter of fact, our own awareness and personality are simply manifestations of everything hooked up and programmed correctly, in our bodies, religious thought/dogma, notwithstanding.
You're dreaming. No one has the slightest idea of what causes something to be alive rather than just a mixture of chemicals. Self-awareness is far beyond that. Computers are not alive nor do they know that they exist; you are talking about a computer. One day, robots will certainly have personality and self-awareness.
