When fires are out of control over here, and things are really bad, we find fire fighters form Canada and the USA coming over to provide welcome relief for our exhausted fireys.

Now it's our turn to send help for the Canadians.

Australian firefighting reinforcements head to Canada to help battle 400 bushfires

Mon 13 Jul 2015

Australian firefighters have flown to Canada to help the country's emergency services battle more than 400 bushfires burning in three provinces.
The fires in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan cover more than 1 million hectares and 102 Australian firefighters and logistics specialists are en route to provide a "surge capacity" to help the Canadians.

Joe Buffone, the Victorian state response controller, said Canada and Australia were some of the most fire-prone areas in the world.
The two countries have shared a "strong relationship" for 15 years, Mr Buffone told 774 ABC Melbourne, with Australian firefighters travelling to Canada three times since 2009.

"We have a formal agreement [with Canada] to provide firefighters," he said. "Obviously it's a credit to our fire and emergency management people that we get requested to go overseas. We've got some highly skilled people in Victoria."
Mr Buffone said the Canadian fire season had started early and was predicted to continue throughout the summer period.

"Their resources are stretched so it's the ability to pretty much have that surge capacity," he said. "They've actually drawn from South Africa, Mexico and the United States as well."

About 40 per cent of those taking part in the mission are in management positions and 60 per cent are field-based and come from organisations like the Metropolitan Fire Brigade, the Country Fire Authority and Emergency Management Victoria.

'It's been a huge logistical process to actually get them together, get the skills matched," Mr Buffone said.

There are 45 firefighters from Victoria, 32 from New South Wales, 12 from Western Australia, five from ACT, four from Tasmania, three from Queensland and one from South Australia.

Oh good one DW. (I dont think they have any idea of what they are in for...but they cant take the offer back!!!!) bundle him up and send him off:eek:

Thanks so much to all your firefighters, DW. I live on the southernmost tip of Vancouver Island's east coast. Off and on air quality alerts, depending on which way the wind/smoke is blowing. The true tragedy lies in the fact that our provincial govt. in it's usual lack of wisdom, has chosen to ignore the huge water bombers stationed up island, in favour of importing smaller planes from Ontario. These aircraft are not equipped to put out fires of the magnitude seen throughout BC. We have been informed to expect the current situation to continue until the first snow. Why is this happening? Money, of course. As the pollution continues, those at risk will begin to pay the price. I have antihistamines available when needed. I can taste the particulates in the air. This is the worst fire season in my lifetime. I worry about it's impact on both people and wildlife. Here, in the "warm land," we have a huge concentration of retirees. If I need antihistamines, how much more affected are they?

He doesn't actually like women very much.
Tell him there will be macho boys in action uniforms and he will be there in a flash looking for photo ops.
Throw in a backdrop of flags and he won't be able to resist.

Just to be clear, Canadianyr women are not partial to Neanderthals. All joking aside, we would give the esteemed (cough) Australian Prime Minister a terminal case of the heebie jeebies. We are a vociferously independent bunch, with a sharp and irreverent wit. Not his cup of tea. Lol.

DW, I don't think he would like our macho boys much either. Even the testosterone kings, for the most part, treat women fairly well, most of the time, unless waylaid by booze or drugs. Also, self-aggrandizement isn't really a Canadian trait. It is considered faintly embarrassing, like leaving your fly undone in public. Lol. Our Québécois have a phrase parvenu....

I hope your ironing is up to date DW before you come out to play...you know how he feels about the chores not being done(by the womenfolk)

 Up to date every morning.

Don't worry, Shali, the Aussies will take care of your fires and calm your heavy breathing...
