Darwin Day this year was historic. The Darwin Day Resolution—expressing support for February 12 as a celebration of science and humanity—was introduced not just in the House by Rep. Jim Himes, but in the Senate by Sen. Richard Blumenthal.
This resolution does more than simply recognize Darwin Day—it’s a substantive resolution that bolsters the teaching of evolution in public schools and stands strong against climate change deniers.
Let’s keep our elected officials paying attention to science and humanism.

 

You're early. Over here it's celebrated on February 19, but only in Darwin itself.
It's a rather noisy affair.

[h=1]Bombing of Darwin Day[/h]On Thursday, 19 February 2015, 9.30am the City of Darwin will be holding a commemorative service for Bombing of Darwin Day , at the Darwin Cenotaph, The Esplanade. This occasion provides the opportunity to appropriately remember and commemorate those, including the surviving veterans and civilians, who contributed to the defence of our country during World War II. 
The recognition of this national day of observance ensures that the older generation will have an opportunity to pass the baton of remembrance on to younger Australians so they too may understand the significance this historic event plays in our lives today and in the future. It is important for us to continue to pause on February 19 and reflect on the Australian men and women who gave their lives in order to preserve our freedom. 
This historical event will be marked by the sounding of an air raid siren followed by a RAAF Aircraft flyover and the firing of guns by the Royal Australian Artillery to memorialize this significant anniversary. The community are encouraged to come along on Thursday 19 February to remember what happened here in Darwin 73 years ago.
The closing of the ceremony includes the sounding of an air-raid siren, a RAAF aircraft flyover and a gun salute by the Royal Australian Artillery. Please note The Esplanade will be closed between Herbert Street and Knuckey Street between 6.00am and 1.00pm. Please be aware there will be high noise levels in the CBD.

 
I actually went to a Darwin birthday party last week! They had a large cake
and a cardboard standing photo of him so people took pictures of themselves
with Darwin. Darwin quizzes and prizes. And a speaker on C.D.
