Hard to fathom the minds of people who post hoax tweets after a tragedy

One more reason I won't be joining twitter, etc. These people are bored, they want to be noticed, they are keyboard warriors, they've lost touch with reality, and they need to get a life....a REAL life. Just my opinion, these things (and people) are too negative for me to even give attention to.

A forum such as this has a limited exposure on the Internet...as opposed to things like Facebook and Twitter that seem to have millions of "followers"....99% of which seem to "text" without putting their brains in gear.

lol - from where I sit, this post just proves my point. Have a great day.

Warrigal - as to your original post, it is a mystery to me. And why would ISIS claim the shooter was one of theirs when he wasn't? And before long we will have all kinds of conspiracy theories about (a) it was all fake or (b) the CIA/FBI was behind it to fuel the anti-2nd amendment folks (c) the GOP was behind it to take media attention away from Trump or (d) fill in the blank.

Heaven help us

The conspiracy theories are already circulating but I have never paid any attention to them.
I like the idea of Occham's razor and go for the simplest explanation, preferably based on real facts.

I use Twitter a lot nowadays and do find it useful for news updates. But you do need to learn to ignore the trolls on it. Most simply want attention and dont even make a decent job of what they are tweeting. But nothing that happens on there or Facebook would surprise me now - sadly.

Boy, Seabreeze, You sure hit the nail on the head ! Nobody could have said it better. Thank you.

I think, as with past tragedies, there was a lot of misinformation going around really early. Before all the facts were in. Sadly, there are always the attention seekers who look for any way to insert themselves into a tragedy, even if they have no business being a part of it. I agree that social media makes it easier for the wrong info to spread like wildfire. But we just have to be cautious about what we share on facebook, or other places before we know all the facts.
I was on Twitter for about 2 days. Did not like it at all. So I just deleted my account. I will stick with Facebook. And this place.

Both sides abuse twitter and other similar social outlets. I have an account but never look at it. Anybody can write whatever they want and that's how lots of fake news gets spread....on both sides.

From what I've seen about tweets, you don't have to have much in the way of substance, but you can thrive if you're good at creating fantasy blurbs.
