Have You Noticed A Decline In Quality Of Products You Regularly Buy?

We keep the canner (23 Ltr) / the dehydrator / the jam making pan the 2 little cookers in the island bench so they are not cluttering up my kitchen cupboards …..they wouldn’t fit in my kitchen cupboards anyway .
We've also got the buckets we use for the outside fruit drying in the same island bench ,so they only see the light of day in fruit season ~ so it’s all nicely packed out of sight no dust gets in them .,no pests
talking about that haven’t seen a mouse in a long time ….they can stay away from me ….cause I scream if I see one
We have our canning pot downstairs as well as all our glass jars. It all gets brought upstairs when we are doing our canning.
It’s the same when we are making maple syrup. All our maple syrup pots and pans get brought upstairs. Luckily maple syrup is only about 2 weeks long. Today we are deep cleaning our kitchen. Maple syrup making is a sticky, dirty job but worth the mess. So far we have 8 1/2 lites of dark maple syrup that tastes delicious.

I love maple syrup in crumpets in winter , I usually buy Canadian maple syrup …..it has to be in a glass bottle
( I don't buy any foods in plastic jars or bottles ( if I can)

I leave the artificial …make out sweetened sickly MS on the shelf …

We try not to buy food in plastic bottles but sometimes we don’t have a choice. I agree though that maple syrup should be stored in glass containers. Plastic is somewhat porous and food leaches into it and stays there.

I look at it this way , some foods like sauces are added to plastic bottles while still fairy warm ….its claimed plastics leech into foods ..then we eat then and they can effect us ..nah …no thanks …..even allot of canned fruits are in plastic jars now

Plastics defnitely leach into foods and foods definitely leach into plastics. Another thing we are on the same page about. 👍

We switched to glass food containers years ago. Yes, they can be heavy. Plastic/paper as in plates, glasses, cutlery has always been a simple no. If what we have is not sufficient a party box of plates runs 15$ or so. I send them home with guests and food. Win win!
Mea culpa! I started using some paper towels. Izzi returning her food does not work with cotton towels for clean up. Any objections?
In my opinion it is not only actual quality but also our perception. Everything was better in the past. Was it really? My own sense of smell has been changing lately. Wet cat food is a problem. Not a good one to have in our house.
We eat and live differently compared to 20 and even 10 years ago. Needs, wants and have tos have changed.
The quality of food and everything else is still available but not at 1970s prices. It may take some looking and experimenting instead of complaining.
Is there really a need for a tea bag when a tea spoon or egg does the job?

"I'm going out on a limb here and offering, nothing prepared for us is going to be good for us. ... :coffee: ..."
"Keep us alive, but gradually harm us, of course! The planed harm has been going on for many decades!"
"If it is caned or in a Bottle its to put you down with bad health problems and them richer!"
Produce of all kinds have been on recall in the states for months. So coming outta the gr;)ound- unless its you your own garden...is also a health hazard.

Decline in product quality, especially with complex tech products, is often a result of Wall Street bean counters becoming involved once products become successful with market share. So they may look for ways to use cheaper lower quality parts that may not work as well or last as long. Also may increasingly outsource to cheaper overseas manufacturing with poorer quality. All while not adding any information about doing so in consumer product advertising and using same known and respected product names. So a bait and switch strategy for the sake of higher near term $$$ profits versus long term customer satisfaction.

Product design engineers often hate what bean counters change, but pin-headed shareholders love and encourage them. Some types of commodities don't have this issue, for example computer USB memories, because technology advancement is so rapid that engineering is only creating highest quality they can to compete in market share. Other like refrigerators are notorious for using motors and electrical switches that wear out much more rapidly in a decade versus older products like say from GE that held up for decades.

Some corporations have purposely built in failures due to lower quality parts for the sake of servicing revenues. And corporations sometimes pay for their bean counter behaviors as had Detroit automakers did when Japanese brands entered the market and killed them on quality. And then there is the whole discussion another bean counter favorite of decreasing product weight and packaging size, hoping consumers won't notice what used to be 12 ounces of food is now in the same size box but filled with only 10 ounces of food.

Got rid of all teflon2 years ago...did away with plastic baggies...have been process of getting rid of all plastic pitchers, storage containers. Started this before hearing about micro plastics.... ahead if this plastic thing to some degree.
I have never ever microwaved food in plastic. Makes me feel better to know I try at least

Yes, definitely 😀 like paper towels 🧻 they give you a thin roll and charge more. You have to be careful too when shopping online because you can't feel, or smell the products. I bought a hat a few years back and it had a kitchenny smell. It isn't washable and sits in the closet now.

Did you not say that you use plastic bags you have to wash?

And just noticed yesterday seeming you mentioned paper products @Ruthanne
The paper towel and Toilet paper has a larger cardboard roll in the middle making the amount of paper look the same …but it’s not
