Have You Noticed A Decline In Quality Of Products You Regularly Buy?

We have our canning pot downstairs as well as all our glass jars. It all gets brought upstairs when we are doing our canning.
It’s the same when we are making maple syrup. All our maple syrup pots and pans get brought upstairs. Luckily maple syrup is only about 2 weeks long. Today we are deep cleaning our kitchen. Maple syrup making is a sticky, dirty job but worth the mess. So far we have 8 1/2 lites of dark maple syrup that tastes delicious.
So …what’s the process of keeping maple syrup @PeppermintPatty I’m never likely to do it ~ I’m just interested in the process

Im almost ready for bedtime and what you are asking will take quite a while to answer and instead of blocking up this thread, I’ll put it in this one which is ALL about maple syrup making.

Okay that's fine, but keep in mind that maybe some of the other members here do. Most people use batteries for sure, and the batteries I get at Dollar Tree work as well and last as long for flashlights, smoke alarms, etc. as do name brand batteries.
That's "funny". I read (or heard) that batteries are one of the things not to buy at Dollar Tree. But of course, opinions are subjective and if you've found them to work well, that's a good thing.

Aluminum foil, even the heavy duty is thinner than tissue paper.

Pro tip, use parchment paper(costco), it's far cheaper and more sturdy than foil. It's a great substitute for MOST, but not all applications.
I get aluminum foil and parchment paper from Dollar Tree, so far no problems with them. My son puts his bread on parchment paper to toast it in our oven/air fryer. I told him it's not necessary because it has a tray for making toast, but he does it anyway.

Yes, I have noticed it. For decades, I have been buying quilted toilet paper which was 2 ply with another layer that made it quilted and soft. Now, I still purchase this paper and it still says “quilted” on the package but, it is 2 ply only and not as soft as it was. There is not an extra layer. Actually, it is so thin, I would hate to see the 1 ply.

I haven’t really noticed a decline in the quality of items as much as I have the amounts. Seems like there’s less quantity in some of the foodstuffs.

As far as the way things taste, I’ve noticed an overall decline in my taste buds rather than a decline in the food itself. It feels like I’ve become bored with the food I eat frequently, my staples, and so I’ve noticed a slow change in my food choices.

For example, I seldom eat potato chips (never as a snack) but if sandwiches are on the menu I’ll serve them with potato chips, but now the chips I buy have some spice to them rather than just plain ones. I’ll add more chili powder to the white chicken chili I make, add some red pepper flakes to spaghetti sauce, extra lemon zest to lemon chicken etc.

It’s like my taste buds need some extra zing to appreciate the food I’m eating!

No change in Amazon's TP or kitchen towels since before Covid.

You may be on to something. I have been going for salt and acid for the last half year or so but have to consider SO.

@Twostep I’m glad it’s not just me! I don’t use salt when I cook, never have, I compensate with pepper and other spices, and I’ve noticed that I’m more generous with the spices than I used to be, just to boost the taste!

I’ve got 57 skirts ,bought from NB when the quality was still good ) they were not eye watering expensive…on average about $68~ $90
Fifty-seven skirts? No judgement, if you like 'em why not? I just can't picture it. Surely skirts don't come in 57 different colors do they?

Re the canned tuna. I used to buy albacore, but switched to "chunk light" because that has the least amount of mercury.

I 100% agree regarding elastic @HoneyNut ,
I used to buy 3/4 in ~ good non roll elastic for adding to waist bands

I purchased good quality jersey fabric skirts from a

store called Nonib who specialised in woman's good quality garments .( I’ve got 57 skirts ,bought from NB when the quality was still good ) they were not eye watering expensive…on average about $68~ $90

I wear the skirts for for social ballroom dancing ~ ,no frilly / fancy over the top clothing~ is worn by anyone now days ..any way instead of messing about with hemlines I’d take the skirts up at the waist ….being jersey it was easy ~ now the elastic only lasts 12 months or so and it’s …if you stretch it …it’s ruined 😠

I like my skirts to be just covering my knees …..

Of course Nonib which was part of a group being Millers / Rockmans / Rivers / Susan have ALL …closed in the last few weeks here in Australia…..some of the reason very poor quality fabrics being used to make garments ….one wash and bin them ~ type of clothing …so ~ no one hardly buying ~ due to many factors ….but the biggest gripe amongst dancers was the very poor quality garments, some of which had a strange… smell :sick:about them
Of course it was all made in china
Good for you.

I’ll take a photo to 😀 @Della, I must have 7-8 without counting
that are either black or black and white ( but different designs patterns ) ..nothing frilly or fancy …in my wardrobe
well most are in my sewing room …in a big built in wardrobe …not my bedroom

We have been to a afternoon dance today ~ I wore a plain black skirt and a top with orange / black and green in it

its 14 years years we started dancing ….so there was more…..but I’ve just recently given the charity shop 5 skirts
( they didn’t make it to the selling racks ) the volunteer sorters made sure of that .

we’ve been having a huge downsize in our home / shed and even plants 🪴
We had a garage sale in Feb …and made ourselves $1.229 …for our efforts

Without counting them this is prob close to 40 of them the others are in the other end of the wardrobe and it’s where I’ve got heaps of sewing stuff ( not as much as I had before downsize ~ charity shop clean out/ + garage sale ) ….😁😁😁
And I can be bothered movin* stuff out to take photo ( some are behind the sliding door of wardrobe in this photo )

Some of there’s are already earmarked for charity shop bag …

Yes very much so in quality of product and prices

We used to buy there regularly as they were ideal for a sweet snack without being loaded calories
the 11 pack was $4.50 …not long ago …then they were made smaller ….and price went up to $5.50 …
Just recently it was advertised they would be reduced to 41 grams …less than … 1.5 ounces and the price is now $7.00 ….and the taste is strange ….they used to use good quality chocolate coating but it’s horrible what ever they are using now …:sick:.
I’ve stopped buying then now …..The whole pack is only 154 grams
