Height - Then & Now

I always heard the older you get,you start 'shrinking' height wise
For yrs I was 5'11,last yr at my dr's office,I asked what my height was,I've shrunk to 5'10

Pecos. You look tall in your avatar. I'll bet people don't even notice that you've lost any height. :)
I think that being slim factors into that photo. I was in my late 60's, a little over 5Ft 9in in that photo. and about 160Lbs.

My younger 73 year old brother has lost about 1/2 inch. He and I both exercise quite a bit and we eat well.

My youngest 72 brother has never exercised, smokes a lot, drinks a lot, and eats junk food. He has lost over 4 inches.

There has to be more to it than just age related loss. One of the reasons I believe so is that recently I have heard from a patient, a lady in her late fifties. She was in an accident which required her to stay in bed on her back for many months. She is now back on her feet...though a bit wobbly and was surprised to hear from her doctor at her last check up that she had gained in height because of the body being prone for so many months. I will definitely have to do some research on this. Has anybody else heard of this happening?

Advice to those wanting a career in pro basketball - stay in bed! :ROFLMAO:

The body shrinks with age, it's imperceptible, but it does have ramifications. I needed distance glasses when I was about twenty-five. My optician said that when I reach my fifties, my eyesight would be spot on because the body's shrinkage would bring the retina back into perfect focus. She was absolutely correct, for five years my eyesight in my fifties was better than it was in my twenties. What she didn't tell me was that it didn't stop. Now I need reading glasses.

I just ache really bad. I take a biologic monthly that helps.
And some of the vertebra in my neck and back are fused, so there's no pain.
Good days bad days like the rest of us......

I was 5'8 or so. I may have been taller when I was younger, never got measured as and adult, but if you look at my current x-rays, my spine resembles the P trap found under a sink.

I have a check-up every 6 months, but they just ask me how tall I am. The one time I said I don't know anymore the nurse had me stand next to graduated marks on the wall, and guessed I was 5' 6 1/2, even though I was wearing shoes.

For the record I'm 62.

Your post is a good reminder as to taking care of ourselves as best we can.

When I was a teenager my Dad always sang to me "5ft2 eyes of blue" so I assumed I was 5ft 2, When I went to buy my wedding gown I was 20yrs old and the salesgirl measured me and said I was only 5ft 1. I've been wanting to check my height now that I'm 70yrs old because I am sure I've shrunk.

Have lost 3 inches in twenty years, now i walk hunched over.
my height is like attempting to measure an appositive-can't be done.

Maybe some of the grammar czars would assist:geek:
