More than 50% of all website traffic is now generated by bots.

However a lot of our members will check the site before logging on.

Most of the guests on any social media site are bots.

Many visitors come from Google by searching something, most of them only read one thread and never come back.

SF does have a very high ratio of members to guests. We have good rankings with search engines. :)

You are absolutely right, Google bots alone crawl this forum 2450 times per day on average. There are also Yahoo/Bing bots, social network bots, spam bots, etc.
 
Bot is a piece of software which crawls (visits) web pages for certain purpose. For example, Google bots crawl web pages and save copies on Google servers, so that they can rank web pages and provide cached versions.

A spam bot will try to register and post on forums, since the whole process is automate, a spam bot can create hundreds of accounts and spam posts within minutes. Many forums were closed due to overwhelming spam bots.
 
Many bots are bad, but some are good, especially Google bots. I would be worried if Google bots don't crawl this forum. :)

Does this forum sign you out after a period of time if you forget? I've visited some forums, forgot to sign out, then go back hours later and find out I'm still signed in.
 
I would check out any forum as a guest before joining, not really lurking, just seeing if it's what you would like.

Yes, you will be signed out within two hours.

Your login info has been saved in your computer, next time you visit the forum the browser will submit your username/password and sign you in automatically. It looks like you are still logged in, but it actually happens the moment you visit the forum.
 
I think my bot is too Phantom, headin out fer a walk, good info Matrix. I didn't know about the "guests" thing, interesting. Yes, we want Google crawling about for sure, google is good, I love google, LOL!!
