How did you pick your forum name

The name of my father's boat when I was a young child, he always took us out fishing and we loved being with him on those outings. Rest peacefully dad, you are fondly remembered.

When I retired I was offered a part time job teaching a class at the University. It was a totally new career and I loved it plus it was catchy with my name. There’s been times on other forums that I have been sorry because people think I taught in the public school system and want to argue about many things related to education.

My main role in my work world was to be a kind of "answer man" more than half the time. I didn't want that role at forum sites, and tried for something I thought to be more modest.

Little did I know that half the people would think it was putting on airs while the other half thought it meant something dirty!

During glaucoma surgery in 2005, one eye at a time, my doctor surprised me by correcting my nearsightedness and astigmatism so that I could see 20/20. The surgeries were approximately a year apart. After the first one my brain couldn't process the major differences in vision. I tried removing the right lens of my glasses...didn't work. Since I had to start putting so many drops in my eyes, contacts weren't an option. Finally I substituted brown construction paper for the right eyeglass lens. My frames were tortoise shell colored (brown).

My husband and I went to the mall and supermarket one day and I could tell people were looking at me strangely as they approached me. If I was younger I would've been mortified, but I thought it was kind of funny because I imagined that from a distance it probably looked like I only had one eye (since the glasses frame and construction paper were similar to the color of my skin). Fancying myself a music Diva, I chose the name OneEyedDiva.

My first officer and I were in the crew lounge at Dulles preparing to fly down to Miami. The f/o went to the door and yelled back at me “are you ready, “oldman?” The supervisor heard him and immediately called us both into the office. He reamed out the f/o for being disrespectful and made the f/o apologize to me. I was ok with it, but I told him thank you.

Once on the plane, the f/o apologized again and I told him no worries. I know you were just trying to have a little fun. I need you to drop it and concentrate on the job at hand. It was his turn to fly the plane, but I decided I would fly that day. He had this incident on his mind, so I thought it best to let him take care of the communications.

I am old. Not as old as some on here, but old nonetheless. And, I'm a fella.

I remember when I was in my late 40s, there were free chat rooms on the internet back then. I accidently went into an age 50s chat room and the first thing I said was Oh no! I'm not ready for this yet. 50 sounded so much older than 48.

So you can see out of both of your eyes? For six years I've thought the reason for your name was blindness in one eye!!!

When I was married I might have had to wrestle with temptation to avoid using "cyclops" as her nickname. That skillet can leave quite a lump.
