So fed up with this cold or whatever it is! The only thing I am planning today is to wrap up warm and venture down to the supermarket to pick up my two parcels. I don't really need to go out but, I think I need a walk.

I can't see a thread for it on here but, there's a lot of coverage in the UK about the fires in LA (Pacific Palisades). Hopefully everyone has been able to evacuate safely as there have been no reports of fatalities (or none I have heard). I hope everyone stays safe x

jeez look at this house in LA..on fire..while the owners desperately trying to get out, and all the. while calming their dog..tellig him, 'you're going to be ok''...

Haunting video footage has emerged of two men and their dog trapped as hellish wildfires encircled their property in Los Angeles.

The chilling clip recorded from within the house showed how flames dozens of feet high surrounded the property, clearly visible through floor-to-ceiling windows, in a scene reminiscent of a Hollywood disaster movie.

The man, whose identity was not immediately known, can be heard telling his dog: 'You're going to be okay, alright?', while instructing a second resident to stay away from the windows amid fears they could shatter.

Real estate developer Rick Caruso, whose Palisades Village properties in Westside LA were demolished by the inferno, blamed the shocking issue on 'mismanagement' and 'systemic problems' in the city after it emerged the hydrants were not filled by reservoir water.

This revelation comes after LA Mayor Karen Bass - who is currently out of the country - cut the LA Fire Department's budget by some $23 million in 2024.

'This is a window into a systemic problem of the city — not only of mismanagement, but our infrastructure is old,' he said, as the LA Times reported that firefighters were radioing their stations with reports that the hydrants were dry.

He went onto rail against Bass and the Department of Water and Power (DWP) in a stern interview delivered to FOX News.

Terrifying moment two men and their dog are trapped in LA wildfire

Cabin fever is about to set in. It has been three weeks and those ribs are not doing well. This morning I signed when I should have zagged. Not a good idea! Enough whining!
The spinach did not make it in the warmed green house. At least the garlic seems to enjoy the cold.
Dealing with paper work, redoing a photo album which is falling apart, checking out a new floor steamer, fiddling around.
Any suggestions for dinner? Meat loaf with onions, home grown roughly chopped tomatoes and corn in the air dryer was tasty. Or I was hungry:)

Morning folks....it is 11 F here this morning, sunshine at least...
That is horrible out in california, feel for those folks...funny I lived in Ventura and Merced in late 80s early 90's and never had
to contend with the fires at all...I gingerly went to both back
and front porches and threw out food for the critters, it is
still sketchy to walk tho...so won't be going out for any reason...hope this sun will hurry the melting proces....catch you
later.....;):coffee::love::cool:

Oh my gosh, after tying myself in 12 knots to get the Continuing Education requirements done (password debacle, general confusing website), the tech at the company graciously walked me through it all and I’ve finished that part of getting my nursing license renewed. GLORY TO GOD!!

@StarSong I hope the Hurst Fires doesn't threaten your house. But I bet you can see it. We are luckily 50 miles away from the
Eaton Fire which is the closest to us. But as usual, the Santa Ana Winds did cause some damage on our property, like blowing
down a large Eucalyptus Tree branch on our driveway that will keep me busy cleaning up.
Top right: Eucalyptus Tree Flowers are quiet pretty, especially when the whole tree is in bloom.

Left: yesterday I pruned the right Palm Tree, and today I wanted to prune the left one. Well, clearing up our driveway is more important.
Right: My 9 or 10 year old adopted 96 pound Boxer "Ross" is dear to my heart. In old age, I am supporting him by wrapping his medication in Hamburger meat and giving him butter as supplement. So far so good: he is acting half his age. I pray I will keep him at least one more year.

Yesterday I had my 9th Covid shot. So far, I never had Covid. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
I also give credit to my flu shot that I just got over a mild form of flu in only two days.

The latest from TV Station https://ktla.com The Palisades fire destroyed over 1,000 homes, while the Hurst fire caused an evacuation order for 44,000 people (does this affect @StarSong?) A new fire started in the Supulveda Basin, called Woodley fire. The first two fatalities were reported.

Rick Caruso is a bitter, blathering, billionaire ass, still smarting from losing his run for LA Mayor in 2022.

When fires are whipped by 80+ mph winds there's very little anyone can do despite the highly professional firefighters and state of the art equipment that LA City and County FDs employ. Los Angeles's hilly, canyony, terrain present a big challenge, especially when high winds keep firefighting planes and copters grounded.

Unless a town is sitting on a large, high elevation reservoir (which PP isn't) water isn't an endless resource, particularly high in the hills. If it were, fires like these would be less deadly. All three water tanks for PP's hydrants were full (3 million gallons) at the time the conflagration began.

It's easy to scream about redoing infrastructure, but I bet if Caruso's property taxes jump 10% or more to pay for it, he'll quickly be whistling a different tune.

I'm only posting what the media have written

Know the feeling. Texas was easy, Arizona is a nightmare as my license is from Texas and Texas switched to a new system. Red tape everywhere. Applied for a job and was told my nursing school education was too far in the past? Odd, I still remember everything I learned in the very difficult program, and it is in my brain?

This is horrible! 😔

Not a firearms person and never had any in the house, but I do have some budget-priced single-shot target BB guns left from when the boys were in Scouts.

Moving things around and throwing stuff out, a found a few packages of paper targets for them. So I broke the guns down and oiled them, reassembled them. Today it's cold but getting out of the house at all is welcome. I spent a few hours out there with a target set up and sighted in the target rifle and pistol I'd serviced.
