@StarSong. I haven’t seen you around in over a week so am assuming you got a nasty cold or flu. I’m thinking of you. My husband has a nasty flu also. Unfortunately he can’t sleep.
Do you think you have a Covid variety?
Perhaps we ALL wear down at Christmas. We volunteered to empty an entire house full of stuff. It was my dear beloved father in law. Unfortunately there was a huge surprise to deal with. I’m not going to say what it was but it had the entire family running around in circles.
I hope you feel better soon @StarSong. You do so much for everyone else. Take care of yourself hon.
Please check the thread about the California fires. She was on yesterday.

Izzi is holding my arm hostage. She is so soft and warm and adamant.
Sunny but bitter cold.
I have deer goulash in the freezer and SO will eat a nice lunch at today's play date. He will be played out, bragged out and aired out by the time he comes home.
Some piddling and fiddling around the house. The Sunday chit chat calls. I have meat out for pot stickers. They make a nice snack for happy hour.
The steam mop works well but the attachments are not as expected. Too much steam/water to use in the house.

This family really pulled together and all helped . The sister did most of it. She also opened up her house to her father to stay for free. I didn’t know about any of the legalities and neither did she but she looked it up and asked all the appropriate people. By the end of 2 weeks, which was how long we were there, she’d wrapped it all all. I was beyond impressed.
Sounds like sister really stepped up to the plate. Awesome.

The sister really stepped up to the plate but so did ALL the siblings. We travelled out there on a 15 day trip and helped purge the house belongings. We sold some stuff, kept some stuff, gave away some stuff and threw out some stuff. It was hard work. The father in law didn’t want to remain in the house by himself so we made that happen. My sister in law offered her house. She lives on her own and was somewhat lonely so it worked out. The problem had to do with finances. She’s a smart cookie. She visited bank managers until she sound out what to do.

I've not long got home. The people came to collect the piece of furniture that i sold.. that's the last of the soon2Bex's..office furniture sold now... yeahh!!

Then I had to clear the car of snow and ice, and drove 2 towns away to buy some things.. and a few groceries.. not many groceries, just fresh produce...

The sales are on and i got a new Ankle length soft lambs leather coat... beautiful.. and 50 % off the full price... what a bargain..I'll list the stuff on the ''what have you bought'' thread in a minute...

No pix? How do you expect me to give a thumbs up or thumbs down on your fashion choices?

As you know, I'm a fashion-forward kinda person, and my approval is necessary if you intend to be seen in public in what you've spent money on.
LOL...weell I forgot that Madame Coco channel...:ROFLMAO:

I'll see how I feel later I might take a picture I might not...:p

Our temps are well below zero, and in some places in the north of England and in scotland temps today are Minus 17.....

This being the south and the hottest part of the UK.. we're only at minus-3..however it was enough to freeze the car winscreen wipers fluid...

....and in the Barn I have an electric dehumidifier which I've had on 24/7 for the last 5 days to keep everything dry in there, it has a hose which is vented through a hole to outside...... in the Shed however, I have another electric de-humidifier, but that one collects water and has to be emptied, that one stays on 24/7 365 days of the year, but it's been so cold that one has frozen completely.. so I had to bring it in to the house and leave it in the sink to thaw out...

Well you know I told you that the asessemnt nurse said there's a chance that I will be turned away on the morning of my surgery, if there's nno bed for me ?... well llook at this, this doesn't fill me with confidence....

In todays news...

Hospitals left a record 518,000 patients languishing on trolleys in A&E for 12 hours or more last year, damning figures reveal.

The rate is 400 times higher than the 1,306 reported a decade ago and comes amid a major shortage of beds preventing staff moving new arrivals on to wards.

It shows emergency departments were already dangerously overwhelmed before the emergence of this winter's
flu outbreak, forcing around 20 trusts to declare 'critical incidents'.

NHS England said an average of 5,408 patients a day were in hospital with flu last week, including 256 in critical care.
It believes this number will rise now children have returned to school, where they risk catching the virus and taking it home to families and vulnerable relatives.
Carrie Johnson, wife of former prime minister Boris, revealed over the weekend she spent the first week of 2025 in an NHS hospital suffering from flu and pneumonia.
She said she had been struggling to breathe properly during a 'nasty' infection lasting nearly 18 days, and urged the public to get a flu jab.
Figures being published this Thursday are expected to show the NHS is enduring its worst flu season for a decade.

NHS trusts nationwide are now installing power sockets and oxygen lines in corridors as they prepare to treat more patients in trolleys along their walls.

The Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) said corridors are 'open, noisy, brightly lit, often cold', making it 'difficult if not impossible' for patients to rest.

It stressed it is 'not possible' to control the spread of infection in them, that it is 'challenging' for staff to monitor patients, and that privacy, dignity and confidentiality are 'not maintained.

The RCEM warns long waits in A&E are extremely dangerous and are estimated to have contributed to 14,000 deaths in 2023. Meanwhile A&Es and ambulance services suffered their busiest year ever in 2024 and crews dealt with more incidents in December than any previous month.
Half a million lay on hospital trolleys for 12 hours or more in 2024

@hollydolly I dunno which I'd be more concerned about, getting an infection while there or not getting a bed. Or wait...getting a bed and an infection!
you're on the money Gigi...I was just thinking exactly the same thing.... I'm wondering if it might be worth calling the hospital and asking if they think it would be a better idea for me to delay this surgery until after winter...

Are the hospital saying that the lack of beds is due to the cold weather and is a temporary situation? If that is the case and if I were in your situation, I think I would have a chat with them. It is not as if the hospital is local to you. If you do reschedule it, perhaps consider asking if they could give you an afternoon appointment as that would save you having to try to get to the hospital at the crack of dawn!

I suppose they cannot call you the day before to confirm whether there is a bed for you?

No they're saying that the lack of beds is how it rolls... and made worse by the fact that it's winter and many more people are sick, and many older people are bed blocking.. and now the flu pandemic

They can't give me an afternoon appointment ecause the surgeon operates in the morning, which is why i have to be there early..

I did ask the assesment nurse given how much it's going to cost me, and also the inconvenience of it.. if it was possible to call the day before and let me know not to come.. and she said no... they can't do that.

personally I can't see why not, but that's what she said... so my only option will be to call them myself close to my admission date and see what they say about postponing my operation..

WWhat will be infuriating tho' is if I speak to one person who says it's fine and to come in.. and then find another peson when I get there telling me.. there's no bed... I will seriously be upset,....not however as upset as the person in A&E in Manchester oday who got so angry about having to wait , staned the nurse, and she is reported to be fighting for her life tonight...:(

I actully cried when i read that.. because medical staff are under humungous pressure in this country with the lack of hospitals and funding.. and zillions more immigrants using the services now ....it just needs a situation like this , for medical staff to refuse to work in certain hospitals or departments

Lazy day today. I did not do the main things I had planned...dusting, Swiffering and putting away the rest of the laundry. I did do one thing on today's to do list. I ordered 3 of my RXs for home delivery. I also talked with my BFF, napped, caught up with some posts here, watched T.V. and cleaned most of the clutter off my desktop.
