I have been fighting this Sheep Sorrel weed for thirty years. It started when I was young and foolish.
In a small area with some azaleas, a dogwood, and some old mulch, one winter, some pretty little plants came up. I thought they made a fine ground cover so I let them spread in that area.
Well they turned into tall lanky, seedy, root spreading nightmare weeds. I have to pull them out all the time. I could just cover with new weed cloth and mulch. I did that in one section but there are periwinkle and ice (?) plants that I'd like to keep.
I am going to try a new homemade recipe weed killer that is supposed to get the roots. I'll have individually paint each plant...or I'll just keep weeding.
I hoped the other plants would crowd it out, and it has some, but not enough. 🌱

good luck with that, hl 🌹

Now that I think about it, there should be a chapter in my gardening book about weeds...the book that I'm gonna write as soon as a mentor steps up to unlock my potential and stuff so that I can write it. Apparently, right now my potential is locked so no mentor, no book.

The only person who volunteered was @NotCompSavy, and he noped out after finding out that I didn't wanna be a plumber.

Actually, I'd prefer that the mentor also be one of the folks who makes a six-figure deposit to my bank account (keeping in mind that I'm not greedy).

It's been a good day. The sheep & goat led to me meeting 2 neighbors and that was nice. We chatted a bit about other things. I was able to share the Good News, after making a joke about sheep and goats! The one lady says she isn't a believer and the other is Catholic. I got some housekeeping done. And now, I think I will sit in the backyard and watch the day fade.

Can you transplant what you want to keep?
You have to get the sorrow before it blooms. It is actually kind of tasty when young. Please do not compost or till it!

Pope Francis, R.I.P.

I am Lutheran but my Asian wife is a devoted Catholic. For her sake, we traveled with our children in 1990 to Rome to participate in Pope John Paul's general audience. Just my wife and I did so in 2010 to see Pope Benedict, and in 2015 Pope Francis. Now she wants to participate in the general audience of the next pope. At 89 I don't want to go anymore; so, my wife wants to fly now with our two daughters and grandson.

Around November 1st is the least expensive and least crowded time to visit Rome. A roundtrip from Los Angeles to Rome at that time is less than $500 per person (flights.google.com.) A reasonable 2* or 3* hotel room for four people and one week should be around $1,500 (hotels.com.) No rental car and not eating at restaurants but buying groceries and eating in hotel rooms, as my wife and I usually do it (we take with us kitchen utilities, like a can opener and plastic cutlery, that are essential.) This should bring the total cost for 4 people and one week to just over $4,000. That's as cheap as you can do it. European entry requirements (https://www.etiaseu.com/us-citizens) apparently have been postponed until next year, while attending the papal general audience is free (http://www.papalaudience.org/tickets.)

PS, we are travelling light. Even for a two-week Europe trip, we take only carry-on luggage on the airplane. This means we have to wash our special light-fabric clothing every 2 or 3 nights in a hotel wash basin, and let it drip-dry overnight. Our economy rental cars would not have space for more luggage in the trunk, and we never leave any valuables in view while parking, especially in cities. We travelled often but only "on a shoe string." However, we celebrated with our daughters the Millennium at the Moulin Rouge in Paris, which was a once-in-a-lifetime splurge.

Well, I'll do the planning for Rome and chip in for the cost, while my family has all the fun. Here are some pix of our 2015 trip to see the late Pope Francis:

Climbing up to the very top of the the double-walled dome of the St. Peter's Basilica, and viewing Rome.

I just place the thick folder with our 2015 trip to Italy on our dining room table for the family to familiarize themselves with Rome, detailed maps, etc.

think I may have some of that sorrel stuff over here?? - took the 'new' dog for his first trial walk it did it fine - I tripped and fell twice whilst holding tightly to the lead. ? the beautiful sandy path was still there but hidden by over hanging sorrel which let me through at chest height but grabbed my ankles and hung on! once I am down I need a hand up this time I made it??

Pepper I'm right there with you~~seems like since the last
time change, my sleep routine is completely change, and I doubt will go back to what it was...wake about 3am or so everfy
day now, sometimes can go back to sleep, sometimes not...makes for a damn long day tho.....Today nothing on the agenda at all...finished the laundry yesterday, did a little banking online, and behaved my self for the most part...will see
what the day brings....take care all......;):coffee:

@hawkdon you "behaved myself for the most part"? Care to expand on that? What about the least part???

Rain is on its way and will likely be here by the time I'm dressed and ready to attack my gardening duties. IOW, probably no gardening today so I'll have to think of some other way to stay out of trouble. There's just so much playing solitaire that a body can take.

@hollydolly Do you have SleepNumber mattresses there? They're the kind that let you adjust from soft to firm, depending on what's comfortable. Maybe that's the answer?

everyone....I'm back!

Dio had a procedure yesterday, all went well. So he is on the mend.
My allergies are a mess today. Probably tomorrow, too. And the next day, and the next day, and the next day, and the next day, and the next day, and the next day......

Today I'll be heading into town for the usual: gym, errands, etc. If I'm home early enough, I'll try to come back and read posts to see what everyone has been up to.
