Tired. Tired. Tired.

Fortunately completed all documentation b4 I came home. Now with feet up, heating pad on back and watching Midsomer Murders (that’s about all my brain can handle)

Next two days are off but will still be busy.

Might be our strongest storm this winter today. A cool 57F outside with moderate to heavy rain, so damp and cool. I love it as it will bring our seasonal rainfall up to near normal levels, guaranteeing decent spring wildflowers in March and April for my photography fun. Here in California we often have these winters in which a single large Pacific storm delivers the bulk of a years rainfall and snows in mountains.

Got an expedited UPS delivery about 11am this morning with a new BofA Visa card since they detected fraud last Friday.

Drove to my hospital 6 miles away in heavy rain, thoroughly washing my old Forester then got another blood test with good normal level results. This is storm number 2 in the series of 3. On way home stopped at a Walmart Neighborhood Market and used the new Visa card without issues. By this weekend the storms will have moved away from Northern California. So will continue to listen to water pleasantly splashing down rain gutters the rest of the day.

In a couple days the storm will move down the coast south to @StarSong, @Nathan, and @packleader that needs it much more.

I showed my newlywed second wife several parcels of land for building a house. The only time she became emotional was a lot with a small running creek, "Oh, if we had a pond with some duckies." Some 50 years ago, I paid $2K for the 2 1/2 acre land that is worth now almost $1/2M. For $60 I divided it into four parcels, doing all the paperwork by myself. Nowadays this would cost $60K because only professionals are longer permitted of doing this work, and prices have gone up. No wonder that house prices in the Los Angeles area are now $1M.

In those days, I could still divide the land into 1/2 acre plots while nowadays the minimum size has been increased to one acre. We are grandfathered in, even when I had a lot-line adjustment recently. Because of taxation changes, I gave three of the four parcels to my children. But they don't maintain the parcels as well as I did.

We had a contractor building the house according to our ideas, mostly measured according to our apartment. At that time, the house costs $55K that is worth now well over $1/2M. We only made a mistake by designing the kitchen to be too small.

I liked a Mexican rancho style house with a large inner courtyard surrounded by the rooms. Due to cost limitations, we had to narrow this idea down to a 9x10 feet open atrium. For outer wall insulation, we paid extra for urea formaldehyde and double pane windows. I also doubled the insulation in the attic. I took a welding class and made wrought iron window screens for security in our isolated location.

On my own, I built four carports and sheds that doubled the size of the house. We also did much landscaping work that included planting over 200 trees and a flower/vegetable garden for my wife. Our children grew up in this house and want to inherit it, even though we bought them their own houses.

And yes, I built a pond with the water from the creek and obtained a half dozen Mallards to make my wife happy.

Left: Can anyone identify this bird on our roof? Right: I don't use longer this 1992 Ford Ranger that needs a repair. I will inquire at the DMV whether I can donate it to a homeless person on our street without re-registering the P/U and having a smog check done for the title transfer. The homeless person could use the car then as a shelter. I have known Jeff for some time; he is a very decent guy who just needs some help.

Left: I am still driving and keeping this 1986 Ford F-150 with the move-on camper, that has a pop-up roof, in case a wildfire or earthquake damages our house. We could use it as an emergency shelter. When our children were still kids, we explored with it not only the US but also Canada and Mexico. We even drove up to Pikes Peak in Colorado at just over 14,000 feet.
Right: After some 45 years, this water PVC pipe just developed a minor leak. Very odd. Since I had laid all pipes myself, I also knew how to fix it.

Because of bird flu, millions of chickens have been culled and egg prices soar. But my wife's chickens give us all the eggs we need, so we don't have to buy any.
Bull Mastiffs ?

Slept TEN hours last night! Woke at 8am. Felt like a new woman and danced my way to the coffee pot...💃
Played with stocks most of day again. New shower curtain arrived; as pretty as I was hoping. Made large pan of macaroni and cheese with toasted croutons and crispy bacon on top. DH in heaven as he loves this dish. I don't make it often enough for him or me to get fat on it.View attachment 401549View attachment 401550

'' Made large pan of macaroni and cheese with toasted croutons and crispy bacon on top. ''

I describe you with one with ' BEAUTIFUL ' .

Dio is (was) my husband's online name, years ago, and I still refer to him with that name. It's short for Diogenes.

At one time, he used to silly goat for his avatar. Someone here though they knew him from that time and asked me if Dio was "goat guy". I laughed so hard (so did he)!!!!

Now....he is Dio, Goat Guy, or just 🐐!!!
Glad @Imogene asked that question, because I've been meaning to. How are you two doing?

It's a misty morning but, not too cold.

Not much planned for today. Going to return a couple of parcels and will buy some fresh fruit and vegetables on the way back. I have some alterations to do later so, I plan to spend some time with the sewing machine this afternoon. Later this month, life will be busier for us so, I don't mind having some quiet time now.

This week seems to be moving fast, Wednesday already! Have a good day everyone :)

Sunny but cool here. Just finished hanging washing on the clothes line. Hopefully it will dry naturally.
I've been looking to see what plays are on in the theatres this year. There are a number that have come round again, but it was a bit soon to see them again. I have booked seats for four plays so that's our 'culture fix' for the first half of the year.

Glorious day today...verrry sunny.... 🌞🌞🌞48 deg...

I've got to wait in for a phone call from my daughter in a few minutes, then I have to parcel up my latest Ebay sales, and get them to the Post office.

We were told yet more of our Banks are closing.. we've already lost thousands of banks , this is their quest to get us to go cashless... As it is I have to go to the next town to get a branch of my bank now... there isn't another one for 20 miles...so it came as a shock to be told the one in the next town is closing as well ....so I asked on the local FB group how are people supposed to deposit cash now that the banks are all closed... and I was blocked for ''Hate Speech''.......that tells you everything you need to know !😣

Raking at least one area today before it rains tonight. It's time to start cutting back liriope. One year I thought I'd get a jump on it and cut it back in December. Well, we do get a bitter cold spell here and it was late. The new shoots of liriope were coming up and they got frost bit with nothing covering them. Lesson learned.
Yesterday was beautiful weather so I got out and about. I ran in Aldi and on the "wall of shame" were Activity Tracker Watches for $4.99. Kind of like a fitbit. I bought two, one for me , one for DH. I just got up and I've already walked 63 steps!
I have a fit bit but it clips on. I like the watch. I don't need any other features other than the tracker.
Have a good day y'all.

YAY!!
GRANDSON DAY!!

I'm so excited. I know I just saw him Saturday, but I'm so excited! I guess because I've been sick for so long. Still have a lingering cold that won't quit, but I'm getting better.

Woke up to glucose level of only 46, so I'm a bit woozy. Will start getting ready soon, takes me such a long time.

I lost a TV remote. It should be in my bed somewhere.

Anyway, lovely people, have a good day. ❤️

Good morning greyones!! Well I sure slept last nite, after a
sleepless mon nite, no probs breathing till I got up today,
not too bad...hope the mistiness on the road out there does
not turn into ice, that would screw up my doc app't at 1pm
today....it is 28F right now, high of 40f later maybe....anyhoo
have a great day all..... :giggle: :coffee::coffee:

Yesterday my grandson had early finish so came round for a meal at midday, cottage pie, one of his favourites. Today, it's my youngest son's turn to finish early but as he is vegan I'm making a veggie paella.

It's a lovely sunny day here so I've been round the park with my four legged friend. Lots of grey squirrels running around, catkins hanging from some of the trees, felt almost Springlike.

On my early walk at 7 temp was 18 no wind as I walked halfway around the building. I avoided some spots where there was still ice patches
Today I've invited 2 church friends,Skip&Catherine for lunch at 12:30 and to see my apt. We originally were going to do this beginning of Jan, but I was recovering from my bout of pneumonia. I don;t know Catherine that well, but I do know Skip,he lives down the street from where I used to reside..I,would see him all the time walking with his late dog, Spencer
The rest of my day read NYTdigitally since the paper wasn't delivered today or yesterday, may do afternoon walk before the snow comes again.

The high today is 71, and will be in the 70s and 60s for the next 10 days. Boy, is this different from life in the Frozen North.

Today I am going to make all my doctor's and lab appointments. I have been putting this off for a couple of months, so this will be a big achievement. I am also going to gather the documents together to get my driver's license. I finally got my birth certificate from the Department of State a couple of months ago, so I have all the proof I need to get a license from this state.

Sense a theme? I am the Procrastinator in Chief.

Once I get the appointments made, I will go to them, but not happily or particularly willingly. My daughter thinks I don't like "adulting", but actually I don't like senior adulting -- too many medical appointments.

Also, I had a film developed that I've been carting around for about 15 years. It will be ready today and my son will pick it up. I hope it's not blank. I have no idea what was on that roll.

Other than that stuff, I am going to continue getting my place organized. Probably get my son to take several pieces of clothing I don't like to a thrift store. I'm not going to wear them and I've had them for a year. They are good quality and in like new condition, as they have never been worn for more than a couple of minutes.

In a couple days the storm will move down the coast south to @StarSong, @Nathan, and @packleader that needs it much more.
Light rain arrived here late afternoon, continued overnight and is supposed to stop around 10 AM, restart around midnight, stop at 9 AM tomorrow, restart around 6 pm and be done early Saturday Friday.

This is the type of rain So Cal needs after the fires. We're getting enough to water the greenery and add a bit to the reservoirs, but not so much that it brings mud slides to the burn areas.

Finished up my income tax package and sent it off to the accountant this morning!

The system at Staples for printing copies from downloaded files on my iPhone was very easy.

Definitely no need to replace my printer and deal with dried up ink cartridges every year!

Made a quick stop at Walmart as long as I was out.

Still thinking seriously about the need for a car, we’ll see.

Cold, 20F. Snow and Ice forecast for tomorrow. I'm sick of this and can't wait for spring.

Have a great day :coffee::coffee::coffee:
The phase of winter that's hard for me is when the sky is overcast, making the day dim.

Here, we can't escape awareness of how important accumulated snow is for us. We drive slower, and have winter tires on, November to late March. Right now I think the snow on the retired railroad track may be sufficient & and firm. May take a ski today.

I no sooner went out to the garden than the sun went away . Still got more leaves raked up and disposed of but done for now. I just get winded after about 10 minutes.

My tax refund is still showing that it will be deposited tomorrow. Keeping fingers crossed that yet another system won't be shut down to keep it from happening because there are plans for that $$!
