@Rae and @hollydolly, I'm envious that you have that option. I get stuck with whatever Amazon chooses, which is pretty much always USPS (probably because of where I live [?]), although I did send my son an anonymous Christmas gift delivered to his workplace, and that was delivered via Amazon.

Anyway, thanks for replying!

Everywhere else online regardless of where I buy it except for amazon..it's a lottery as to who gets to deliver it. Most often it's Royal mail.. then there's a myriad of delivery companies, some very bad..others not quite as bad...

Quiet day at home.

In a few minutes, the 49ers versus Seahawks NFL game.

Studied maps to find maybe the best place in the San Francisco Bay Area to build an indoor skiing resort. And found an excellent spot though won't currently publicly disclose where such is. Such would require being at:

  • land not currently occupied by structures.
  • land on mostly north facing hillsides so a building along an inclined slope without need for towering structures.
  • close to the chilly Pacific Ocean to minimize refrigeration cooling requirements.
  • at least 450 feet of vertical with novice to low advanced skier level slope gradients.
  • near a freeway.
  • land with an adequate amount of area for reasonably level vehicle parking and a resort base.
  • access to a large urban population, hours from mountain ski areas where a population already has many enthusiasts.

Morning all, early walk at 6:50 temp was 22 as I strolled around the building once before breakfast. I noticed a couple people running both had blinking red light vests as they went by
This morning at 10,Marcia&hubby Dave, picking me & neighbor Bill up going to our 10:30 church service. Afterwards, Bill&I will be having brunch at noon in the dining room with 2 other church members, Jerry& Val. Jerry usually makes the reservation the day before. For Sun brunch, need to have reservation in by 9:30am, brunch hrs 10-2.Its the only day no dinner in dining room,or lunch in cafe.We get menu of 3 dinner choices, either call it in or if I'm having brunch, one of the wait staff will take my order, dinner is delivered around 4
The rest of my day read local paper, talk with my brother, read my book, hope to take afternoon stroll
Everybody have a good day

Good morning to everyone. We had rain yesterday and it was welcomed as we are beginning to be a drought area. It is cooler today at 66 degrees.

@moviequeen1 the place you live sounds lovely with all of the choices you have for dinner. It seems nice, too, that you have friends that live there. My sister lives in a care home in Missouri and it sounds like your place but she has medical care, too.

We do not have plans today but we will probably be going out for lunch.

Have a great day, everyone.

Afternoon peeps of SF..... it's another glorious Sunny day....

I was going to go out .. but I changed my mind because it was thick ice first thing, but it melted by noon..., tomorrow is going to be just as sunny, so I'll go then... it will suit me better

This morning Royal Mail delivered my new Night vision prescription glasses that I bought from an online optician.

They're just like any normal glasses but slightly yellow tinted and they're made specifically for night driving.... with all the high beam lights coming towards me in our narrow unlit country roads it puts me off driving at night now ..and I used to enjoy driving in the dark...in fact I learned to drive in the dark !...so I'm looking forward to trying these..

Have the best Sunday you can....folks 🍂🍀

I really wish Amazon would branch out with more options. I mention the problems with USPS in every online chat I have with customer service (which are all prompted by missing/damaged deliveries) just so it gets on the record. I suppose I shouldn't complain given that I am a Prime member and thus do not pay for shipping, but the ineptitude of the local USPS here drives me batty. It's been nothing but continual problems, for years, and at more than one address.

Ah well. I should be glad to have such a minor problem. And I am!

I agree... it may be a minor irritant in the great scheme of things.. but it's very annoying just the same. It's basicallly a terrible customer service, and particularly so when we pay a prime membership for this service...

If we went into a store, bought an item then the cashier said ..ooh someone threw your parcel into someone else shop, you'll need to go find it yourself..... or the cashier said now you've paid for that item, and technically we're supposed to hand it over to you... but we've decided we'll do it in our own sweet time.... there would be ructions

My back is killing me, I've been up and down ladders clearing the kitchen . The new utility room is being built later this week.. they need all my kitchen emptied .. pictures off the walls... dishes all out of cuboards... because the vibrations of the building building can break stuff.. in another room...
I've filled 4, 80 litre lidded bins with stuff from the kitchen cupboard tops.. as well as inner cupboards...and the boxes are all in my livingroom

In the uk we generally have all our white goods ( washing machine, dryer, fridge freezer , dishwasher ) all in the kitchen.. so all those things have to come out, and they'll do that ... because new ones are being purchsed to go into the utility room when it's done

Later in the week, the day before the builders arrive I've got to remove the Microwave and the Airfryer..into another room....

It's all really hard and heavy work...for me !

@KSav, I think your Amazon orders are shipped via USPS because you're in a rural area and/or are far from the closest Amazon warehouse. Understandably, they ship the cheapest way possible. It's a bummer that your USPS is so unreliable; can you have the deliveries made to an Amazon locker instead of your home?

Like @hollydolly, my AZ deliveries nearly always come via their own vans, probably because there's an AZ warehouse less than eight (driving) miles away. Perhaps 10% arrive via UPS, FedEx or USPS.

Today and tonight should finish up the current round of storms. No serious chances of rain appear in the ten day forecast. Hallelujah!

The two older grands (10 & 13) are coming today and will spend the night. They're polite, helpful and fun — easy to be around.

DH & I handled a few business chores yesterday and have started staging Christmas stuff to be put away until November.

With the kids here we won't do much besides hang with them. It should mostly be a lazy Sunday.

@StarSong, what’s your system for handling bedding. You almost have as many different guests and as often as a mini hotel.
I don't change the guest rooms' bedding between older GK visits as they are our most frequent guests. 4 year old GS sleeps in our room because the guest rooms are in another wing of the house. If someone other than our GKs is slated to spend the night, I change the bedding before & after their visits.

When I sequester myself in a guest room because of illness like Covid, I change the bedding when I move back into our bedroom.

I have similar glasses, but I did not get them with a prescription (I don't need one for driving). I thought they worked great! I hope you like yours!

I think you're right, @StarSong.

I just checked the Amazon site, and there are no lockers available in my area. There are a few pickup locations at various businesses, though, one of which is UPS. Next time I place an order I'll see if that is an option.

Thanks!

I haven't tried them yet because I only got them this morning, and I haven't been driving tonight ( it;s dark but there's icy roads)... but they look like regular distance glasses but with the slight yellow tinge to the lenses..I dodn't know if you can see the yellow in these photos
