I had a strangulated hernia years ago.the pain is intense. I feel for you. had surgery the next day. Just take easy for a couple weeks after surgery. good luck.you will be fine.
A strangulated hernia is dangerous because the lack of oxygenated blood causes the trapped tissue, often intestine, to die. It's medically known as: necrosis/gangrene. It can lead to several life-threatening consequences: Mercifully my hernia hasn't strangulated and with the surgeon's skill, it will soon be history.my ex husband had that when he was in the Navy.. he was only 21 at the time, so strong and fit, but they kept him in the Naval hopsital for 10 days and then sent him home on sick leave for 3 weeks...
My surgeon, a no nonsense sort of fellow, I took to him immediately, used simple terminology, explaining how poop (his words) must be avoided from getting into the blood stream, which has a much greater chance of happening when the hernia has strangulated. For now though, he reassurred me I will be okay, he got the hernia back in and recommended a stronger truss, which I have since ordered.
