How is your day Today, plans and achievements 2024....

Slow start today, too much interrupted sleep. Maybe yesterday was too much excitement for an old geezer not used to being buried in toddlers and dogs and in-laws and outlaws.

Looks like we'll hit 75 F today. Might have to put the snow blower away, hmm?

Several days of high winds have left the yard full of tree branches to gather up for disposal, but at least everything I tied down seems to have stayed put. Still no ornamental trees flowering but that can't be long. Very soon I'll have to do a first mowing and hedge trimming, so this may be a good day to get the tools ready for that.

In the week we've been away, the grass has started to shoot up, so I got the lawn mower out of it's little shed. It was a devil to start initially, having been laid up all winter, but it's fine now. Then I saw some starlings trying to get under the roof of my workshop, so I abandoned the grass cutting and put wire mesh over any places the birds might get in. I hate starlings, so I'm constructing a cage to put over the bird feeders. Hopefully it will let the small birds through, but stop starlings of anything bigger.

I have it! I have spring... come on over, Hawk, it's going to be 76 degrees this afternoon! ☀️🌷
Speaking of tulips, yours are gorgeous, @hollydolly ! Do you know the name of that particular color? I had some like it years ago but I can't remember what their name was... maybe "lemonade" something?

Thanks Kate.... they're crocuses, not tulips. Very similar I agree.. these ones are ..I think. Gypsy Girl.. but I can't be certain, I planted 'em a long time ago...

I've just finished clearing out my Linen cupboard. It's been needing done since O/H left... and I've been putting it off.. but now.. 3 sacks of bedding, pillows, and towels.are all bagged up ready to go.. and I can actually see the wooden slats below the towels and sheets now.. soo much space...

I like your advice about the immune systems.
Both Dio and I have had a total of 3 COVID shots...two regular and one booster. After that booster, we both keep getting sick and and it seems to take soooo long to get over our various illnesses. I will never get another COVID shot!
@Trila:
The article I cited was specifically about post-Covid infections requiring additional time for one's immune system to recover. It did not state the same to be true of vaccinations.

I will continue to get vaccinated against Covid, the flu and other viral nasties that show up. Indeed, I believe the vaccinations kept my recent Covid bout from being worse.

@Kaila: I don't know how this quote happened, but I never said this or anything like it: Capture.JPG
I don't want my earlier post on this thread (#3751) to be misinterpreted. Just keeping the record straight.

Picked up TGS yesterday morning and a really great day with him. DS came to pick him up around 5 and visited with us for at least an hour. ❤️ Time with him outside of busy, chaotic family funtions is an extra bonus.

We have tix to take our older grandchildren (11 & 8) to UCLA's women's softball game today, but since it's raining we'll have to entertain them at our house. No matter - we always have a good time together. Will likely do a take-out lunch from their favorite nearby place.

We made a little side trip when DD picked me up after work this morning. The "sides" ( :) ) have already been planted. Some weeds might not live to see another day. This afternoon it's either dig weeds or mow lawn. Guess I need to hone my decision-making skills.

It's quarter past 12 here and already 81F. We could see 85 today. Yay, no wind, not even a breeze. After the past week, I'm all for no wind.

I left work at 9 again today. Congratulate me on my outstanding time management skills. LOL What it boils down to is not going the extra mile(s).

...see 85 is great if you have AC... I don't want 85 here with no AC....

it's 5.30pm here now, the sun has gone in and it's clouded over... not going to rain, but just grey cloud now..

Just had dinner.. a little bit of baked chicken...

@hollydolly So far this year, I haven't had the A/C on, just the ceiling fans. Tomorrow will probably be another story.

I had leftover pizza from DGD's birthday for lunch. Now all I want to do is take a nap. I get to stay up "late" tonight because it's not a "school" night. I'm not going to bed until after dark!

Pffft. The weeds will still be there tomorrow. So will the (overgrown) lawn.

There was an "insident" at the rink last week, involving one of the employees and his son. The police showed up, etc. I'm so glad that I wasn't there for all of that drama!!

I will be back on Wednesday for the D.A.R.E. party....that one always has the nicest kids! (....and the troublesome employee is not allowed at the D.A.R.E. parties! 👍)

Today will be filled with getting

done. Slow, easy pace....no big projects.

We are sunny, expecting a high of 85°F/29.4°C

What D.A.R.E ? @Trila ?
It's usually sponsored by police departments and came about in the 1980s. Stands for D(rug) A(buse) R(esistance) E(ducation). Its effectiveness is questionable - sort of on the order of "just say NO" and similar programs warning about peer influence to use drugs, tobacco & alcohol.

By my reckoning, the most valuable aspect of DARE are opportunities for positive interaction between at-risk kids and police officers.

@hollydolly

Yes, this is a good summary. The catch phrase is "DARE to stay off drugs". It gives kids things to do in stead of hanging out with peers who are usually in trouble.

The kids who join DARE are usually the "good kids" who chose to stay away from drugs and other destructive activities.

I'm sure it would probably vary from place to place, but these kids are usually very polite.

Happiness is having pets who give you their unconditional love and loyalty. I grew up with dogs, my children also grew up with dogs and have now their own dogs, and my grandson obtained his first dog at age 4. I could tell stories about each of the pup.

Top left: over the years, we had more than a dozen pups. When they enter dog heaven, their earthly remains are being remembered forever in our pet cemetery. A statue of St. Francis of Assisi, considered the patron saint of animals; and a plague, "Run free now; go play with the angels" are adoring our pet cemetery.

Top right: my children made this blanket made for me. The girl Boxers on the left side lived to 14 and 15 years. The blanket is hanging now above my bed as a kind of tapestry.

Center: my present Boxer pack with my grandson's Beagle. Kids have such a strong bonding with their pets. About my pack: The girl on the far side licks me to death, while my two boys are buddies who compete discreetly for my attention. I know their games.

Bottom left: my 20 years older daughter with her 120 pound Great Dane "Sir Mordred." He was the only dog who tried to correct me when he thought I made a wrong turn on our hikes. His tail was a deadly weapon.

Bottom right: my younger daughter's Blue Nose Pit Bull "Bella." She attacked a rattle snake that cost me $1,700 to keep her alive. I had to do it for my daughter's sake to prevent her from dying heartbroken. On the other hand, Bella was the only dog who, when I fell, licked and licked me till I stood up again. She was the only dog I know of who had human empathy. (Pit Bulls either lick you to death or bite you to death, LOL)

well, darn... got home from a second day of babysitting grandgirls and thought I would lay down for a nap... nope

Headache (whether caffeine-deprivation or whatever) kept me awake in spite of acetaminaphen. So I'm up and drinking a small cup of tea to see if that will help and catching up with y'all. =)

My older daughter starts her new job tomorrow and I'm so excited for her. It will be a bit of a learning curve (going from ER nurse to hospice nurse is quite a leap) but she'll do fine. Besides, she knows she has a resource in me ;-)

It's a gorgeous day here... I think I'll take my new book out and sit under the shade tree and read. Would love to have one of these....
