We attended a public meeting last evening where government reps, fire-fighting team leaders, and police addressed us locals about the wildfires. Today we took the, for us, unprecedented step of renting a storage locker. We're storing things that are especially important to us there, due to the nearby fires being unpredictable. The as yet out-of-control wildfires jeopardize our home and other buildings on our property.
Two friends helped load our pickup, as well as their own, and we drove stuff to the locker. DW and I will drive another load there tomorrow. The locker is a half-hour drive from our place. On the drive back home, we noticed that ground-level winds had shifted and at that time there was less smokey air along the highway. A relief, though maybe only temporary.
