We are expecting our first snowstorm tomorrow (late Sat. night) lasting all through Sunday. My grands are coming tomorrow (Sat) 4-5pm from an hour away in MA. (Same storm up there) I am baking my Mideastern style chicken thighs now, making my Basmati rice; can just heat up tomorrow w/ frozen veg.

Will also make my hummus b' tahini tonight BTW, didja know Hummus translates literally as "chickpea" in Arabic?

I am worried the storm may begin earlier than tomorrow night, so I am going call DGS and ask them to come earlier in the day.

Here's a bummer; I bought all the stuff for that eggnog cake posted in Food/Recipes by @1DomesticGoddess , even vanilla! You all know I can't bake, and just realized that my ONE adequate mixing bowl had slipped and broke about a month ago. *sigh*. Maybe I can use a large pot. That is IF I can find my once-used Bundt pan.

It's cold but sunny with blue skies. Hard to believe a snowstorm is on it's way, but we've been lied to before!

RadishRose, this morning my husband had read to me when you stated you had purchased the ingredients to make the Eggnog Cake. NO, I did not know you can't bake. But now that you mentioned you had a Bundt Pan. After I had a stroke, my husband took over cooking for the two of us. Plus he stored away some of my baking equipment as well. I am now able to back, so my husband purchased a Bundt Pan for me, but needless to say... I really don't care for it. I'm bound and determined to find those pans once and for all.

Hi, kids. Gramma's home early today.

I finished everything there was to do and asked the floor manager if I could leave. Yup. We're a production department. I produced. I came home. Could have hung around milking the clock, but leaving a little early keeps hours available so when Sir has to work overtime, it doesn't make our pay budget look like it's getting out of hand.

How did I manage such a feat? Well...a couple of weeks ago it occurred to me that I could bake cookies and freeze them. So every time I've had a few minutes here or there, I've baked cookies and started freezing them. Now there's a whole rack of various kinds of cookies and lots of the ones that fly off the shelves...notably peanut butter, oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip. I no longer have to play beat the clock trying to finish up cookies and get them packaged and shelved before I leave. Yay me.

DD and DGD are going to check out a funky little shop this afternoon and asked me to go along. Thanks anyway. After the three-hour adventure yesterday, I'd rather stay home. Besides, it's cold and windy out there. And there are...people! Way too many people out there peopling.

Oh, that reminds me. Yesterday's adventure in my relentless search of lightweight socks to wear under my new electric socks? Well. The electric socks are positively wonderful. Wonderful, I say. On Christmas Day I charged them but then didn't use them until today. The charge only lasted for three hours. Maybe because they were charged two weeks ago? The batteries are being charged as we speak. We'll see on Tuesday if that was the problem. While the charge lasted, though, my feet were toasty warm on the concrete floors.

Tomorrow's a day off. There might even be sunshine.

@HoneyNut and @Pepper DH and I had a great time in NYC because we were guests on the Donahue show, and they paid for everything we wanted to do. It's always fun when somebody else picks up the tab!

I don't know if Grayline Tours still exist, but we took a couple, one on the Staten Island ferry, one that was a day trip and went all over. Chinatown, Broadway, Times Square, Wall Street, Empire State Building, St. Patrick's and St. John's Cathedrals, Central Park, Liberty Island. Our hotel was just a couple of blocks from the Grayline office so we just waltzed on over and booked the tours.

It was a great way to see a lot in a short amount of time.

That was 35 years ago...tickets were $8 each. I can only imagine what they cost now 💸 💸

Had one digital recipe book with over 90 recipes and photos. When I transferred a copy of back-up to new tablet, I got message to reinstall. I did and it wiped out said back-up.

Went to read comments on Google playstore and found out the truth. Unless you buy the app outright, you're left with nothing. How nice of them... At least, I've the pages on the browser bookmarked and the YouTube videos are saved, but I'm faced with finding a new app which prints in PDFs and actually backs up on cloud.

So far, only one of my favourites has gone missing online. I suspect that the original poster took down his recipe, bummer!
Rather than a digital recipe book program, I created a simple template in Word and type or cut/paste them to that, then save as a .doc and PDF. I print a hard copy for my recipe book, back the whole the file, on a thumb drive, plus zip the file and email it to myself.

How do your wrap them for freezing?

Hello everyone, on this very snowy Sunday, here. ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
I dont mind it, as long as I'm watching it from indoors,
and as long as I still have the power, with the heat, lights, stove, microwave, which thankfully, I do, so far.

This storm is supposed to keep going here, till half the night, tonight, with more snow and cold and stronger winds.
Hoping to keep the power.

The snow is very pretty, out my window, and the wild birds seem to be celebrating and thoroughly enjoying it!
Cardinal male and female, and a variety of finch types, and the "junco's" .....very cheeky and active round-shaped birds that always show up each winter, when it snows, and they act like they absolutely love it.

Happy Junco Party Day, to all of you! 🤩🥳🎊🎉😁
(apparently, that's what it is, here. :ROFLMAO:)

@1DomesticGoddess, sorry to hear you'd had a stroke.... hope you find your pans.

I made your egg nog cake in a square pan. I have to tell you it's delicious!!!! Thank you so much for posting the recipe.

It's so cold tonight.. it;s almost 9pm.. I've just seen the gritters out gritting the road, so it's set to be even colder.

First thing in the morning I have to take my car to have some more repairs on it.. agreed last month when I had the brakes done... and also it will be getting it's MOT done as well... gotta keep fingers crossed it passes..

However the real PITA of it all is that I have to get a bus back home... and then later in the day another bus back down there...which means I have to ask them to ensure the car is ready before 4pm, because being rural our buses stop late afternoon

I've just ordered a sherpa fleece lined hoodie to keep me warm indoors. I've got 3 layers on and I'm still cold.. so hopefully that will help...

Stolen oranges taste twice as good as the ones you pick in your own garden. An investment company bought an orange grove, mulched it, but a dozen orange trees survived in a gully. It's a nice hike with rewards. This time I hauled away 25 pounds in a backpack.

Somewhere in the center is *the gully.*
OK, here are the few remaining orange trees
For the last few years I got here my free oranges
My 95 pound big guy loves to lead and to show us the way.
That's called hiking and it's fun.

Holly I wear something akin to that when sitting home in the evening. Now that the hair on the crown of my head has decided to go visiting somewhere else:cry:, I need cover on my noggin to stay warm.

Back in the last pages of the "What are you doing today 2023" thread, I mentioned that our household has a sewing machine that DW didn't know how to thread. She acquired it secondhand, with no user's manual, so it rested in the basement, unused, for years. So, leaning on a combination of three Youtube how-to videos, I learned to do thread it. It was a struggle, but I succeeded. It requires a delicacy of touch, or maybe better a fine dexterity that isn't natural to me.

Today a friend of ours came to our house, and she is an accomplished seamstress & fabric artist. She spent an hour demonstrating basic sewing procedures, and provided instructions for settings & adjustments of the machine, as well as imparting the essentials of machine maintenance. So now it's a matter of practice, with various kinds of fabric.

I found this whole episode more of a challenge than learning the basics of welding years ago. Really, I just want to be able to mend things and maybe hem work pants that need a little shortening, etc.

Other than that, I'm waiting for a call from our satellite-TV provider to give me receiver-adjustment instructions, so we can watch all the channels that we're paying for!

well fortunately I still have hair on my head, hopefully it'll stay there... but I already do have Hoodies, in fact I'm wearing one right now, but it's not fur lined.. this new one is, so keeping fingers crossed it'll keep me warm indoors...

Just when I thought I'd heard of everything, DD showed me a tube of something that looked like refrigerated dough for cookies. Turned out to be dough for banana bread. Cut off the end of the plastic wrapper, squeeze it into a loaf pan, bake, et voila! banana bread.

I don't even want to know what's next.

Still not as good as you can make I am sure!!

RadishRose, Thank You. I actually made 2 Eggnog Cakes, and felt the one I posted on this site, tasted the best. This was the other cake, but the photo I'm sharing now, is the first cake I made.

That's too bad. Could you have saved those items on a flash drive or external hard drive?

Dil and grandson came by for a couple of hours. She was able to find a couple of boxes of her books (big reader). Stumbled upon the grandsons baby clothes, hope that set fires to her ovaries!!

They both went home with little gift bags of snacks and drinks. There was also a 500 check as grandson got a trip to Universal Florida as a Christmas gift. Hopefully that will buy a coffee and a burger and some extra souveniors for the grandson. This is his first trip so I know he will have a good time.

We did a quick sweep through the closests, did not find anything for them but found a pair of sherpa lined house shoes I had bought on clearance at some time. I have some very happy toasty warm comfy feet.

Laid down for about and hour (till I had to pee) now up for Sunday night TV.
Put a little pot of beef stew on the stove to warm I made yesterday. It will be even better tonight!

Nothing better than getting hugs and kisses from those you love and miss everyday. Even better when they find you have bags of goodies to take home. They realize you are thinking of them all the time.

I hope everyone had such a blessed Sunday as I enjoyed!!
