How is your day Today, plans and achievements 2024....

It's so cold tonight.. it;s almost 9pm.. I've just seen the gritters out gritting the road, so it's set to be even colder.

First thing in the morning I have to take my car to have some more repairs on it.. agreed last month when I had the brakes done... and also it will be getting it's MOT done as well... gotta keep fingers crossed it passes..

However the real PITA of it all is that I have to get a bus back home... and then later in the day another bus back down there...which means I have to ask them to ensure the car is ready before 4pm, because being rural our buses stop late afternoon

I've just ordered a sherpa fleece lined hoodie to keep me warm indoors. I've got 3 layers on and I'm still cold.. so hopefully that will help...

Ooh, I like that hoodie. I don't like the fact that it's so cold and you have to take the bus.
Hope your car passes and all is well! I can't find a fingers crossed emoji so imagine it's there. 🤗

I feel like I am almost 100% back from the stomach bug.
I got a lot done today. Unpacked all vacation stuff.
Took down the Christmas tree and outdoor wreaths that were left.

Whenever we go to a timeshare it is clutter free and so when I get home I look around and think, "We have waaaay too much stuff!"
So I got busy and decluttered the kitchen. I am neat and clean but it just seems every surface, every corner has something in it.
I asked DH if he could give up one thing a month. He said "I'm always putting stuff in my truck to take to the dump."
I said, no, one thing to take to Goodwill. Just one thing a month. I don't think he can.
I'll be taking twenty.

Just when I thought I'd heard of everything, DD showed me a tube of something that looked like refrigerated dough for cookies. Turned out to be dough for banana bread. Cut off the end of the plastic wrapper, squeeze it into a loaf pan, bake, et voila! banana bread.

I don't even want to know what's next.
Where did she get that?

Just another day here. Just had an avocado and ham sandwich. I ran out of sweat onions and the sandwich 🥪 didn't taste the same without them 😭. Put some gas in the car before the fuel line would freeze in this cold weather that's at the freezing temperatures.

Doggies breathing got bad for a little while. Every time she has an episode I fear she will die. We're seeing the Vet this week. I'm going to discuss that and additional medication or things to do if she's not able to breathe. I'll tell you this is very stressful and scary sometimes. I worry about her so much.

Just listening to some music to try and relax.

After 46 years, our Panasonic microwave oven (right) passed out. Today we bought a new one (left) for half the price that, in addition to microwave, also has three other functions: air frying, broil, and convection. Although, we didn't realize how small it would be. Our gas range is of equal age and still going strong. Our trash compactor and dishwasher are also that old, but we don't use them much.

This is already our third refrigerator/freezer, while our washing machine and dryer are in the fourth generation. The original carpet was replaced with tiles. Even our house air-condition/gas-heater had to be replaced due to the old refrigerant (R22?) being phased out to clean up the air. That reminds me: the cleaning of the electronic filters at the very bottom is way overdue; that's a pain-in-the-neck. Comme si comme ça.

I got up just in time to make my before sunrise prayer. My BFF started me off with a motivational conversation about exercising around 8:30 a.m. She could only stay on the phone for the first 5 minutes.of my “biking” on my mini peddler, which I did for 27 minutes. I stopped because my knee was starting to bother me just a bit and my phone battery was very low; I was using the pedometer app.

This morning we had an overdue studio session for just over two hours. We officially started the mixing process for my up tempo song which is meant to energize. After the session, I called two friends….first the brother, who is a neighbor, then his sister. She called me while we were in the studio. I called her brother first because I thought if I said I have to call your sister now, it would shorten the conversation. Boy is he a talker!! One of the first things he said to me was “call my sister” so that worked out well.

I intended to get something to eat, knowing I’d fall asleep right after, but I wound up sleeping first. After I woke up, I ate dinner then loaded and ran the dishwasher.

I’m going to watch T.V. for a little while, then probably do some research and reading using my tablet.

It's 8.40am... I've just got dressed and ready to go out and take the big tool bag out of my car, ready for me to take the car down to the garage.

I'm an absolute nightmare when it comes to sleeping before an important date...so last night I only got 3 hours sleep..if that..., so after I get home from the garage I'd like to sleep but I'll be waiting for a call from them to tell me if my car has passed or failed..

In the UK ( as all Brits here are only too aware) the MOT test is very extensive and the car has to pass on so many individual things before it's legal to take back on the road...and we have to have this done every 12 months

The fuel system will be inspected to check that:

  • there are no leaks
  • the pipes and hoses are secure and in a good condition
  • the fuel cap fastens and seals securely
The vehicle will be inspected, depending on the age and fuel type of the vehicle, to check that it meets the rules for exhaust emissions.

Diesel vehicles

The MOT tester will refuse to test your vehicle if they think that the smoke test may damage your engine.

You should tell them at the start of the MOT if you think this may happen.

To reduce the possibility of damage and increase the chances of passing, you should:

  • keep your vehicle maintained at all times
  • have the camshaft drive belt replaced at the recommended intervals
  • go for the MOT with a fully warmed up engine - it will produce less smoke and is safer to test
  • not tamper with the governor settings

2.6 Seatbelts

The vehicle will be inspected to check that:

  • the mandatory seatbelts are in place
  • they are suitable for the vehicle
  • they are in a good condition
  • they work properly
  • they are attached securely

The malfunction indicator lamps (MILs) or dashboard warning lights will be checked for the:
  • air bags
  • seatbelt pretensioners (which remove the slack from a seatbelt in the event of a collision)
  • seatbelt load limiters (which release a small amount of belt when it’s too tight)
..and there's more here...
Car parts checked at an MOT

Can you believe it.. I got to the bus stop after dropping the car at the garage. There was about 6 people waiting. We waited 15 minutes and the bus just drove right past us..

There wasn't another bus due for 1/2 an hour so I walked home,, all the way up hill. It nearly killed me I;m ashamed to say. Good god am I unfit or am I unfit ?... horrendous. I had to stop once half way up the hill , but tbf it is a verrry steep hill... and almost a mile and a half long... and then to get to the bottom of the hill in the first place I had to walk a mile .... the last time I walked up that hill was probably more than 20 years ago

It's clear, bright and absolutely frozen here. Glad I'm not having to go anywhere.
I was somewhat surprised that my campervan passed it's MoT, but it passed all the tests without comment. Private vehicles have their first MoT at 3 years old and yearly thereafter. Mrs.L's car is only 18 months old, so we've got a while before it's tested. It does have a service every year from new, but that's generally just an oil and filter change and a check to see if everything is OK. Any problems would be fixed under warranty.

@HoneyNut and @Pepper DH and I had a great time in NYC because we were guests on the Donahue show, and they paid for everything we wanted to do. It's always fun when somebody else picks up the tab!

I don't know if Grayline Tours still exist, but we took a couple, one on the Staten Island ferry, one that was a day trip and went all over. Chinatown, Broadway, Times Square, Wall Street, Empire State Building, St. Patrick's and St. John's Cathedrals, Central Park, Liberty Island. Our hotel was just a couple of blocks from the Grayline office so we just waltzed on over and booked the tours.

It was a great way to see a lot in a short amount of time.

That was 35 years ago...tickets were $8 each. I can only imagine what they cost now 💸 💸
Funny you should mention The Donahue Show..........I have been watching all those old shows on YouTube. I like his style of interviewing. Who was on the show you went to? Did you ask any questions? Maybe I could see you in the audience.

Oh my goodness, that is my fear of using the bus. That it won't pick me up to bring me home. Maybe it was just too much for you because you had not walked the hill in a long time.

We weren't in the audience, we were guests on the show. It was in July, 1989, a long time ago.

Cold here this morning. It's going to be sunny but stay cold.

I hate getting up early on my day off, but Maggiecat insists on having her breakfast at the same time every day. Had my coffee in the kitchen, then lay down to watch news and went back to sleep.

There's laundry going. The bed linens are going to be changed this morning, dishes washed, The Hovel vacuumed. Don't know what else. It doesn't feel like Monday.

@hollydolly I hope it wasn't raining as you wended your way back home this morning. And hope it isn't raining when you go to fetch your car.

Hey! What's up with this? It's past daybreak and the sky is cloudy:mad:. They lied again.

Christmas was only two weeks ago. It seems like it was months ago.
