You love 9 acres, but would you also love doing the maintenance work? I had 2 1/2 acres, divided them into 4 lots, and recently gave 3 of them to my children because I just couldn't handle the work anymore; ha, ha! Think twice about what you are wishing for.
So many projects to do. Everyone talks about their chores, so let me add mine.
Pups have to be taken care of. Twice a day going for a walk. They love getting groomed. 4-5 times a day a little treat. And if I dare to forget about them, they certainly make me aware of their existence. They are loveable buggers: the girl licks (washes) me about ten times a day. The boys are more restrained. They just keep bumping into me till I take notice. All in all, they keep me busy.
For the last 30 years, I bought only sand-colored cars because you don't see the dust so much. That is, they need far less often to be washed than other colors. Still, it's time to either doing it myself, or spending $8 at a nearby automated carwash.
And the garden!!! Pruning trees and shredding the branches, cleaning the pond, cutting the weeds, etc. etc. Well, I turned over the work to my kids, and now they start moaning, LOL. Because the ever present wild fire danger, the fire department has set strict rules about what has to be done, like keeping weeds below 4 inches and keeping trees trimmed up to 6 feet high. If you outsource the work, licensed contractors are very expensive (check
CSLB-Home -CSLB) and if you hire a cheap unlicensed worker, then you could lose everything you own "if" something happened. There is no insurance to cover yourself.
The hot water heater has to be drained once a year to flush out the accumulated calcium deposits; time to do it again. Because of earthquakes, the water heater has to be tied down.
The pump for the water fountain passed out. I bought a new one but need help to install it.
==> lucky you guys who are living in an apartment and have nothing to worry about; I envy you.
But there is one thing I am sharing with apartment dwellers: going shopping today.
At Walmart: fiber supplements, mouthwash, and Hartz flea & tick spray for the dogs.
At Aldi: Sauerkraut, bread and Kefir.
At Sam’s Club (like Costco): Salsa, ham, and cheese; walking around, I usually end up with buying much more.
At Winco Foods: frozen juice, non-fat milk, and yogurt.
And then I have to look for the shopping list my wife left for me somewhere in the kitchen.
