Having a surprise visit today with son/grandson. Grandson so happy with my gift to him of water balloons that he promised to drench me today, and told me to expect to get Very Wet and wear my Water Shoes. Okay, I'm ready!

No pics. Ever. Not after 15 years ago being on TV and internet, with my name, blabbing on a local news story. Got phone calls from people I didn't even remember I knew. People came out of the woodwork, I swear!

So, I made a vow. No pics, and especially not with my name.

If only I could draw.........

I've just come back from a walk, braving the rain, I know, you all think that I'm a daft old begger, and of course you are all right.
Anyway, I was passing a new detached house that was only built about 2 years ago, and I was inside it as a guest only last week, so, what a shock, to see a huge tree which had fallen onto the 3 cars in the drive, totally flattening them, and the top of the tree had demolished the front door and porch.

Fortunately, the occupants were on the other side of the house and uninjured.

I think that there will soon be chain saws attacking other trees close to the property.

I've never understood the reasoning down here behind getting out in May and going back in late July/early August. It's not usually too hot yet in May but bloody hot in July/August. Two months.

As a kid, we went back the day after Labor Day and got out at the end of the first week of June. Three months.

We didn't get week-long breaks in fall and spring, but we did have more time in summer to forget what we learned. LOL
Same when I was a kid in the northeast. And for my kids who were in school in So Cal during the 90s-00s. (All of us had two week-ish breaks at Christmastime, another week around Easter, two days at TG, plus a few other single holidays and about 10 weeks over summer.)

These days, So Cal schools generally return to classes in mid-August, mirroring most college & university schedules.

K-12s changed their schedule primarily to evenly cut in half the full term (180 days of instruction) so that when the December break arrives, the first 90 day semester is complete. Same as most colleges & universities.

IMHO, the change is a wise one. As a student, I hated having mid-term exams coming up in three weeks hanging over my head during Christmas break. Even worse were teachers who assigned projects over the holidays - and they tended to be the same ones who assigned homework on Halloween.

Good morning and Happy Thursday, July 11th!

A couple of errands are on my schedule today. We've a forecast high of 97° today, but it won't climb out of the 80s until noon, so I'll knock out my errands before that time.

Have some business chores to attend to after that, so finishing the cookbook moves to the back burner once more.

Hope all have a great day!

I'm very curious about your cookbook, StarSong!

LOL - It's just "my" cookbook, as in my collection of tried and true recipes, including tweaks and updates I've made through the years. It's a 3" spine loose leaf binder with the recipes separated by chapters: Appetizers, salads, soups, sides, Italian, Mexican, Chicken, Beef (including conversions to WFPB options in place of meat), Cakes, Cookies, Misc Desserts, Christmas, Party Menus, etc. I have a table of contents in front and index in the back.

Going out in about half an hour to see youngest granddaughter (and her friends) in a school production of the musical 'Six'. Described as a modern retelling of the wives of Henry VIII, presented in the form of a singing competition. My granddaughter isn't one of the wives, but that doesn't matter. Still be nice to see her dancing/singing in the chorus, whatever. One of her best friends is playing the part of Katherine Howard. She's got a really good singing voice so am looking forward to seeing and hearing her too. Should be a fun evening.

My sleep pattern has been terrible. Due to a heavy duty diuretic and palpitations I would wake up and not be able to get back to sleep. It was inching toward being awake all night and sleeping half of the day. Last night it was in the cool seventies and I slept a full six hours. Going to resist taking a nap today and hope I am on the way to a good night's sleep. I am being careful with caffeine, even with decaf and chocolate.

If you self-publish it, I'll be happy to buy a first edition! :D

Yeah, I can be careful with caffeine, but chocolate? Nope. Fuggedabouddit. If told to be careful with chocolate or to give it up or die, I'd die. Life without chocolate would not be worth living!

So I told DD I need kitchen trash sacks, the 13-gallon ones that stretch. On her way home today she stopped at Sam's. You know, Sam's where everything is sold in bulk or at least in the giant economy size. I got trash sacks. 200 trash sacks. I use two in a week. There are 52 weeks in a year. Looks like I need to put trash sacks on my list for June, 2026.

I'm late today,, weather here,,,69 may reach 71 ,, night time 60.
Picked some blueberries to give away.

Georgiagranny Check out Averie Cooks.
Last year I found a blueberry zucchini quick bread reicpe, its good.
Makes 1 loaf.

I used some of our small zucchini today in a mixed veggie casserole.
Didn't turn out the way I remembered it. ???

I think my taste buds have died nothing tastes good.
