I was sitting outside minding my own business when I had an oh-look-shiny! moment. There is was a bare spot where a deer stepped on some sunpatiens. I've been looking at it for a week or so, and it finally got to me. I dug up another one from the grouping and stuck it in the bare spot.

Well. Then I spotted some weeds that looked easy to pull up so I did. That led to more weeds...you see where this is going? LOL It was hot out there in the sun, and there are a buncha weeds in the trash now.

DD said she was going to get a local favorite key lime pie to take to DGS's and did I want to ride along. (We already have two but the guest list keeps growing.) So I went. Just a little outing for this old lady. Life in the fast lane🏎️

Since I can’t find a gardening thread I’ll use this one. Half of our garden is in the ground, and part of it is in pots. We’ve just put an 8 x 16 raised garden plot together made from cedar wood. We got the one with raised sides to help keep the deer out. I’ll show it when it’s filled with dirt.

We have water melons, cantaloupes and a variety of berries too. I’d love to take credit for all this but my husband does most of it

Whoever owns a piece of land will never run out of work. A branch from my Eucalyptus trees fell on my neighbor's parcel, and I am
cleaning it up. Because it will be again 100 degrees today, I can work only from sunrise till 10 a.m. and from 6 p.m. till it gets dark.
I am using a hedge trimmer for pruning branches that are hanging too low, while my pups are watching me.

My large tree branch knocked down part of my neighbor's fence with another neighbor, and now my neighbor can't let his goats out
to feast on the weeds. So, tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. my neighbor, my son-in-law, and I will again straighten out that fence.
I've said it before and I'll say it again Packleader. You are amazing!!

Well , I got all the windows washed, ideal day for it today being so overcast.... Couldn't paint o any more fences because it was just too dull and windy...but I did get a whole load of Lupins , plants , and shrubs on that side, weeded and drastically cut back... There is one particularly heavy ceramic pot, that need to be moved to allow me access to one of the panels to paint... and it took me all my strength to move it.. but at least I've got it out of the way..

I had minced beef, with potatoes, mushrooms sausages and peas for dinner.. which I'd batch cooked and froze last week...

I don't remember if I mentioned it.. but I've been trying to get someone to take away a sofa and a dryer to the recycle, but because they need a licence to do it it's been difficult t find anyone... so I called the Council offices, they said they could do it, but each item would be classed separately, and they would charge me individually,.. almost £200.... but the biggest rub was that they said they couldn't come into the house to take them out.. that I'd have to leave them on the edge of my property on the day they were due to be taken, because they said their men were not insured to enter the property..

I explained that's it's not possible for me to lift a sofa and a dryer by myself .. but they had no other solution... Craziness !

@hollydolly, can up offer the dryer for free parts.

I’m surprised your couch hasn’t sold. It would be immaculate. You would have choked if you saw the two couches that were being put out on a nearby street. They were filthy and the spring of the seats were shot. One was gone by the next morning. The other had leftover food wrappers on it. 😱

OMG! Patty....those look wonderful ! With the price of produce these days, how blessed you are to be able to grow your own. Tell your husband his gardening skill is impressive.

Sweet!!! They said not much grows in Florida during the summer, (hot, hot, sandy soil, to little or too much rainside yard.jpg back yard.jpg etc.)
Well, so far I've got tomatoes, taters, green beans ,roselle ,blackberry, strawberry, celery, lettuce, some sugar cane, and 4 banana trees.

Today was move the RV from the side yard to out front by the shop. But first, had to break out the tractor and dig a ditch alongside where it's going to get the water to drain out to the road. Then, I had to wrestle 2 big old railroad ties under Margo (the RV) to give her stabilizers something sturdy to set on. Finally got her where I want her. Sure glad I've got that tractor. Next step will be service her generator in case of hurricanes. (y)

Thank you OneEyedDiva. It’s not only the price of produce that got us wanting our own garden, but it’s the condition of the produce got us wanting to grow own own. When we lived in Ontario the produce was at least fresh. Produce in this province isn’t very nice.
I’m just really happy that my husband got into gardening. The other day he put up an 8 by 16 cedar raised garden bed. He did it in 3 days. It would have taken me months.

Another great thing is that he’s eating salads every day. Now he actually likes salads. 🥗
It’s probably cause he’s growing them. We actually have too much produce so need to either can some. Freeze it or give it away. Luckily tomatoes and peppers freeze well.

I went for a stress test today, so my morning was spent preparing for that. I had to eat before 9:30, two hours before the test was scheduled. My honorary daughter took me and came back to pick me up even though she wasn't feeling that well today. I offered to take an Uber home but she wouldn't hear of it. The test didn't take long but the wait time was too long. I waited more than an hour and a half to be called in. The tech did apologize for the wait however. She and the tech who actually monitored the test were very nice.

Gotta tell ya...the treadmill they use is a whole different animal than the one at the gym! I could feel it and was not able to stay on nearly as long. My BP was very good (126/86) even though I refrained from taking BP meds for 24 hours, as instructed. But it rose as I took the stress test, then slowly went back down (with the diastolic pressure going to 80 & 78). The systolic went down but not to the original level; it leveled off at 150.

I ran the dishwasher after I got home (had loaded it last night) and will only have cat bowls and tin pans to hand wash tonight. I'm making broccoli pizza for dinner and will be eating off a paper plate. If my son decides to eat at all, he has leftovers from an Italian restaurant in a tin he'll likely throw away. Of course I'll be watching T.V. and playing my games. I may sort laundry with the intention of doing a load in the middle of the night or I may just leave it until tomorrow and go down in the wee hours on Thursday.

Thanks Squatting Dog
Your new place looks really nice by the way.
You always have a nice garden. You clearly love growing. Like yourself, we take advantage of 5 gallon buckets. They are perfect for growing in. We have white ones and orange ones from Home Depot.
Do you do canning or freezing? That red mulch looks great.

Yes, we can and freeze all that we grow. I'd love to take all the credit, but, the wife has the greener thumb. We compost a lot of food waste, leaves, sticks etc. I also burn the small oak debris as it makes a great potash.
Thank you for the compliment on the house. Ever since we dumped the sinkhole disaster house and lost the Arkansas one to the fire, (man, sometimes it just comes at you with no end in site), we've just continued to work on making this one better and better. (y)

Well I haven't put the leather 2 seater sofa up for sale.. and it is in very good condition, altho' it does have a couple of scratches on one arm...which is why I felt no-one would want it.. but it might have to come to that....

Ditto

Ditto. My husband does most of the gardening and most of the canning.

We compost all compostable things and have 2 big compostable bins but most of our compost comes from the lobster and crab plants. We get a ton at a time.

You’re welcome. It certainly looks like a success to me. I hope your insurance company helped you out. All your places look good. You obviously take care of them.

Some pictures from our morning walk.

Left: big commotion, 5 dogs almost brought me down by wrapping their leashes around my legs (my 3 Boxers, and my neighbor's
Pug? and German Shepherd puppy.) The owner panicked but I assured her not to worry. Right: Animals are basically curious.

DSCF0249.JPGDSCF0250.JPG

Left: of all the horses in our neighborhood, there are two who will never fail coming to the fence to greet my pups.
Right: back on our home turf, we saw a coyote on our neighbor's property (trying to magnify made it a little bit blurry)

While insurance wasn't perfect, between the 2 places and selling the extra acres and equipment, (the extra trailers, the Dodge diesel, and even the extra RV), it was enough to allow us this home outright. Smart wife knows how to rat hole money so we have enough around for taxes and any emergency repair we might run into. My being the handy guy to have around ;) has also helped out a bunch. We don't have to farm out much these days.
We kind of took a beating on the sinkhole deal, but in the end, all went well.

Were you leasing land before?
You being the handy guy to have around? Lol
My guy is super handy also. I’m glad to have him.

Speaking of husband. He wants to know where you got the metal for your raised beds? He likes your gardens also.

Long list of small chores today. Went to the lab for blood draws, got a cup to take home for a urine sample, turned right around and took it back. At least I didn't spend another hour waiting. Hit the pharmacy to transfer prescriptions since the Rite-Aids are all just about closed here now. Got groceries, stopped for roadside eggs and tomatoes and blueberries. Almost bought some duck eggs there. Went online to work on setting up transfers between a bank and credit union I opened a new account with.

Hadn't slept well last night, took a nap then did a few small outside tasks until it got too warm. Clouding up now and will probably start to rain.

I usually don't get out during the hours I did today. Saw lots of older people, wow do they look old. Maybe in the colder months they cover up more of that oldness?

How do you use your potash? Isn't it acidic?

We had leased some land and had some other land belonging to friends while raising the Angus. Once we sold out the cattle, I had no need for the truck, cattle trailer and some of our other equipment, so we let them go.
the metal was just some corrugated roofing tin from Home depot.

That was a smart move.
My husband says ‘thank you.’ He’s going to look into it. It’s a great idea. 👍
