Last night went with a bang. There was a large fireworks display at one of the farms behind us and a we just have fields between us and it, we had a fantastic free show. Afterwards we could faintly hear some announcement and I think it was a celebration of some sort - possibly for the end of harvest ??

Weather looks fine today, so we should get out for a walk.
 

Well it's 8am, very overcast..I'm up, showered and dressed, because my new sofa is being delivered this morning..

I don't know how they're going to get it in... because the other 2 are still here, so I'm going to ask them if they can possibly jiggle things to get the new one in, and move the other 2 sofas' closer to the door to make it easier for them to be taken away at some point... I'lll give them a financial incentive.. and hope they'll do it. If not, they can take the new one away again, and I'll arrange a different delivery day...

I finally did it, I stayed awake all day today! I got a lot of yard work done, picking and breaking of lets of branchs from the trees. I was also lucky enough to get an appointment for a haircut. I had been so depressed because I was losing so much hair, especially in the front. It had gotten quite thin and the hair line was receding.

I told this lady what I thought and she gave just that. My hair was just past my shoulders. She washed it, even though I had washed it last night. She wanted to see the curl and wave when it was wet. She took of about 7 to 8 inches, she layered it well all over. She changed it to a side part so the hair would come over my forehead and give a lot of coverage to the thinning. The back was also cut to about 2 inchs to highlight the curls.

With all the old hair off my gray finally came through in glorious shades of grey and silver. I could not be more pleased!! Sometimes we are afraid to jump but it feels so good when you hit the ground and realize your dream has come true. Laugh if you will, but I am excited to put on a full face of makeup to see how it looks. I have not worn any makeup in five years, hope I can remember how to do it.

Got to go shopping now for hair care products for curl, volume and styling so I can play with the new cut.

Your new hairstyle sounds great @Blessed

If you haven't already, take a look at tinted moisturisers which, I think, are really good for adding some warmth to winter skin, not as heavy as foundations and, of course, add a little moisture.

Have fun with your shopping and don't forget to ask if they give product samples, a lot of companies do, especially on skincare stuff :)

Overcast here too, no rain predicted on my app but, I am not sure I believe it! It is tempting to stay home but, I think I am getting a bit hermitish these days so, will probably go out later.

Hollydolly, I doubt if your sofa problems are worse than mine. Our lounge is upstairs and the stairs have a turn at the top. That's bad enough, but we had to take the lounge door off to allow the new sofa to be manoeuvred in. The armchairs weren't such a problem. The delivery guys took away the old suite which they said would just be scrapped. Seems a pity, though the cushions were a bit 'saggy'. Anyway, we now have a nice leather covered Parker Knoll suite and I hope it doesn't have to be moved.

I have been using a BB cream for a while. It is just a nice light coverage for everyday use. Of course, me being me I don't use it daily. I also have some really good foundation and all the extras if I need it for some reason. I just really don't like dealing with makeup these days. I gave up mascara along time ago due to my migraines.

BB creams are good (y) I am a big fan of skincare products although, I am trying to avoid the temptation of buying any at the minute as I seem to have accumulated quite a lot! :)

I used to work with a lady who suffered with migraines and she too did not wear mascara because of it.

well... it did take them a bit of maneuvering to get it in..but they were brilliant.. they even took their shoes off when they realised they were walking all the fallen leaves in to the hall.. and then cleaned it all up with the Vac...

The boss of the trio, showed me how to show the people who will be taking the old sofa away how to dismantle the arms to get it out of the door without damaging it..... because it's being sold and not scrapped.

Super guys.. I gave them a tip....(y)

Now I have to get contrasting colour scatter cushion covers....

Armchairs seem to have gone out of fashion, most people I know seem to have a couple of sofas. I have recently seen some armchairs which I really like and am tempted to buy to replace one of the sofas. Mind you, two armchairs would be more expensive that the sofa in the same range. Decisions, decisions .... :unsure::)

I found armchairs are extortionately priced at the moment, some are close to a thousand pounds..incredible:eek:.. . I've had 2 sofas for as long as I can remember and I thought I would get an armchair this time in a contrasting design and colour.. but I'm not sure now. I saw B&Q have got much more affordable armchairs, but the only trouble is they're only available online so I can't go in-store and check them out... so I don't know what to replace the smaller sofa with

The Shetland Islands otoh is just about as far North as you can go in Scotland.. along with orkney .. and is not a holiday island.. it's quite remote, . It has 100 islands, of which 16 are inhabited... the total population is approx 25 thousand ... They are working islands..altho' they get very many visitors it's not somewhere people generally choose to take a vacation... usually they are day trip or cruises who pull in to the islands for just a few hours...

I feel for your friend with the Aga, I have a Mini Aga.. so I know how much she would have paid for hers...

Blessed you need not be envious of her.. next time you speak to her tell her you have a friend with whom you can stay anytime you like and will take you to the Islands of your choice... (y)

I had a bad, bad night. It wasn't exactly a nightmare, maybe just a real disturbing dream with lots of people in it...like my MIL, my dad, one of my sisters and...Eric Trump. What?

There were also a bunch of plants that I was trying to re-pot. MIL was either insisting I take her somewhere or stay with her and offering me money. First $50, then another $50, then to sweeten the deal $54. $54? Yeah. It was a $54 bill. Huh? She must have printed that herself since no such thing exists. LOL She was trying to keep me from voting even though I told her I had already voted.

My dad was falling-down-dead drunk, and we (I don't know who all the "we's" were, just other people) were trying to get him to go home.

DH and my sister (Michele...yeah, masculine spelling...don't ask me!) were peripheral to the whole thing. I don't even remember seeing sister, just know that she was there.

There was so much going on and so much commotion that I couldn't get my plants re-potted.

I couldn't analyze that dream if my life depended on it :ROFLMAO:

It's not full-moon time. Reckon there was something in the shepherd's pie for supper that caused all that?
 
Well it's not even Noon.. and it' been as busy as Oxford street here, metaphorically speaking. Soon after the delivery men left, another knock on the door.., could I move my car to allow the telecom people access to the telegraph pole and their van with the high lift on it.... so after I did that and while they were up the pole.. I swept all the leaves from my path, and the pavement.. Phew what a job.. I really wished I had a leaf blower right then...

Then after they left I moved my car back.. and the house phone is ringing with DD wanting to see the new sofa.. .. :D

Then i realised after that there's a small item missing from a package I received from Temu last week... just some small but essential thing for a £1.. so I contacted temu customer services, explained. that a single item was missing . and instead of refunding just the one item.. they refunded the whole package which was over £10... then they gave me £4 beccause my package was one day late... and then.... they gave me 20 % off future purchases with a cap of £20... how about that for one morning ?

I've got the whole rest of the day to go yet :D

We've had LIDL for a while in the US. They closed a nice one in a nearby town that they built close to an Aldi. I guess people chose Aldi and they didn't make it. I visited a new one in a different town. It was ok. I prefer Aldi for some reason.

I must admit that I am a big fan of older styles of furniture. I have many pieces purchased at estate sales and also family pieces that were left to me. look for estate sales on the higher end that may have unique styles and fabrics. Often their maybe things out of your price range, but here you can leave a written offer of what you can pay for an item if it is not sold during the sale.

I have won many priced pieces this way, the most recent being a late 50's tension type floor lamp in perfect condition, has 3 lights and the original gold glass wavy globes that cover the light bulbs. If I see a piece that I really love I am willing to pay the full ask, could be a furniture piece, kitchen or dishware item but it never hurts to leave a bid especially when you are a lover of things from back in the day. We are all different and certain things appeal to us as desirable that would not to others.

I have a SIL that purchased midcentury modern home from the 50s in downtown Dallas. that had orginal kitchen and bath features. She has her own pink bath with a large pink soaking tub and all the matching features. She has original kitchen features and appliances and flooring in the house. She has a 1966 mustang convertible in the garage, fully restored, for road trips. Her degree is in marketing and advertising, she makes a lot of money and is exposed to a lot of unique older things that fit her personality.

I know it sounds kind of silly in the time of technology but I love old things and have no hesitation in purchasing things I can afford or leave an offer. The truth is I don't give a crap about what others think, I just want things around me that I love and feel comforting. The truth is I keep and eye on the first little pink house we bought. If is comes on the market I would be happy to consider it a perfect retirement home as long as it has not changed to much!

Well..that's it I'm finished now with that new cordless Shark Vac I bought in October .. cost around £300.. absolute rubbish.. it only holds a a charge for 10 minutes. I just vacc'd the stairs, and just as I started in this office room, the battery ran out and that's after a full charge overnight. So..back it goes, I've just printed the return labels out... I'm so annoyed, ..now I've got to look for another cordless .. :cautious:
