I don't even know why I bother

I have a friend, sixteen years worth of university, multiple degrees, a genius, but he can’t spell worth a damn.
I had a professor at the Naval Academy that couldn't write in cursive. He told the class that he never learned how to make an 'e' or a 'g' in cursive.

I don't know why, but put a keep pad in front of us, and we type stuff we wouldn't say to another living person. It's kind of similar to road rage- keyboard rage? I know I have gotten into some dumb message wars, and it is intense, but really stupid. You can get all philosophical etc, but it's best to remember that people are just plain ******* weird, and you're one of them.

A few years back, there was an app or something that was being talked about called, if I remember rightly, PWI, Posting While Intoxicated; it'd supposedly make you wait a little before hitting "Post" or "Reply" and cut down on some bad posting/replying. (It could also be not a real app, just being talked about.)

That's pretty interesting to me. I learned how to make those cursive letters, but my brain simply doesn't allow for some of them. They're print versions. Don't know why, doesn't seem import considering how old I am.

many people have such small worlds they live in and even smaller life experiences to be able to understand the meaning that they read. (pronounced red not reed). I think I will just reed the posts and refrain myself from remarking, that will keep the peeece.
Well, gee...did you want to start a thread so you could see what responses you received? I don't get it.

My world seems small as I am barely 5 feet and it's a small world after all. I fully admit that I don't understand the meaning of some posts I read but I do find them entertaining and most of the people are really nice here (p.s. I am NOT saying this just to get a 'like'). Some posts are very funny (IMHO). If I do make spelling and/or grammatical errors, feel free to shoot me tomorrow.

Wow. I don't drink much, but I could really use that app. Post in haste, repent at leisure.

Is the original post about spelling? I thought it was about small-minded people. I'm confused.

@deaver - I'm not confused about what you said, but some are. It has nothing to do with spelling. The cryptic message is, "Many people have such small worlds they live in and even smaller life experiences to be able to understand the meaning" > of what deaver posts. It's a smack down and an insult, mocking those who don't "get" your posts. We're just a bunch of plebes here who simply can't compare to your worldly and vast "life experiences". The thing you should "refrain" from is insulting others' lack of understanding because you fail or refuse to make yourself clear. Your post in this thread is an excellent example.

It came across as someone hoisted by their own petard. The phrase, "Hoist with his own petard,"is a phrase from a speech in William Shakespeare's play Hamlet, it occurs in a central speech in the play in which Hamlet has discovered a plot on his life by Claudius and resolves to respond to it by letting the plotter be "Hoist with his own petard".

I post to a number of forums with international membership. English is designated as the desired language for information exchange. That does not mean that all are conversant in the English language. I make allowances for that and get what I can out of the post.

Generally, I put myself in the other person's shoes and imagine what it would be like if I were to try to post in their native language. Wouldn't be pretty, much less understandable. So I cut 'em some slack.

What I am seeing that is disturbing are posts that totally eliminate any attempt at punctuation or capitalization. All the letters just strung together in one unintelligible lump of a never-ending paragraph. Remember reading a library book on early Greek and Hebrew writings on scrolls and that is how it was done. Took a scribe or a scholar to read it. Perhaps history is again repeating itself?

I have read the posts in the hope of enlightenment
I don't think I've enlightened anybody on this thread with my posts. I'm just as confused about the opening rant as everybody else! I've reread it several times and I'm still not sure what the actual beef is about.

Like the Cadbury chocolate secret and the Colonel's 11 different herbs and spices recipe, it will forever be a lingering mystery.

It could be simply a way to attract attention!

okay, first for the poster with "hoist ones petard" do you really know where that came from? petard is a reference to a small bomb and the phrase came from defusers getting blown up while disarming said bomb thus hoisted(killed) the small bomb. it comes from the french dated about 16th century...
