Is This the End of Humankind? Toxic Chemicals Could Shrink Sperm Count to ZERO by 2045

Shrinking penises, plummeting sperm counts: toxic chemicals threaten humanity" is today's article by Erin Brockovich and says there will be no more babies by 2024 according to recent research. Article is dated March 18 2021 in The Guardian just 2 hours ago where Erin Brockovich poses the question "Is this the end of Humankind?"
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/mar/18/toxic-chemicals-health-humanity-erin-brokovich

"The end of humankind may be coming sooner than we think, thanks to hormone-disrupting chemicals that are decimating fertility at an alarming rate around the globe. A new book called Countdown, by Shanna Swan, an environmental and reproductive epidemiologist at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, finds that sperm counts have dropped almost 60% since 1973. Following the trajectory we are on, Swan’s research suggests sperm counts could reach zero by 2045.

Zero. Let that sink in. That would mean no babies. No reproduction. No more humans. Forgive me for asking: why isn’t the UN calling an emergency meeting on this right now?"

"The chemicals to blame for this crisis are found in everything from plastic containers and food wrapping, to waterproof clothes and fragrances in cleaning products, to soaps and shampoos, to electronics and carpeting."

'As if this wasn’t terrifying enough, Swan’s research finds that these chemicals aren’t just dramatically reducing semen quality, they are also shrinking ***** size and volume of the testes. This is nothing short of a full-scale emergency for humanity."

"Products also include phthalates, PFAS, PCBs, alkyphenol ethoxylate and bisphenol compounds, and organohalogen flame retardants. Important steps to address the extent of chemical pollution have been taken, but by and large, the United States, like many other countries, is fighting a losing battle because of weak, inadequate legislation."

Lara, the article says 2045, not 2024, which is just a few years away.

Are there any other articles about this? Strange that Erin Brokovitch is the only one sounding the alarm.

It was correct in the Forum Title and correctly quoted in body copy. I fixed it where it was mentioned a 3rd time incorrectly (typo thx). I can always count on you.

Yes, Irwin posted another article below in post #24. The governments are aware worldwide but legislation has been an issue for moving forward. The difference is that Erin Brockovich is trying to suggest that the UN should have an emergency meeting.

This article is based on Shanna Swan's new book giving her new research findings with new prediction for 2045. Irwin also posted another similar article supporting this research below in post #24.

This is in the article...."Given everything we know about these chemicals, why isn’t more being done? Right now, there is a paltry patchwork of inadequate legislation responding to this threat. Laws and regulations vary from country to country, region to region, and, in the United States, state to state. The European Union, for example, has restricted several phthalates in toys and sets limits on phthalates considered “reprotoxic” – meaning they harm the human reproductive capacities – in food production."

So, yes...the government has been aware but not effective. And this is what Erin Brockovich does best when toxins are known to be in water for example (you remember that). When she stepped in results happened. Let's hope her history of success repeats itself.

Is it possible that there is enough sperm (and conceived embryos) in banks that this isn't quite as dire as it's made to sound. I didn't read the article but did it cover the possibility to using those if needed until we clean up the environment enough so that people aren't so negatively affected?

Also we're not seeing that dramatic a decrease in population growth now so I doubt that in 24 years we'll be in such a dire situation.

I hope you're right (y)....but the end of natural conception perhaps. No, the article didn't mention sperm banks.

Erin Brockovich is now an expert on Global populations???? She needs to look more closely at the "Real" statistics...

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/birth-rate-by-country

The population growth rates have been slowing down...for years...in the more developed nations, and among the more educated. However, in the poorer nations, and disadvantaged ethnicities, these rates have been skyrocketing.

The REAL problem humanity faces is the overwhelming risk of overpopulation, and the Extreme conflicts that will begin to occur in the latter half of this century, when the conflicts between the Haves vs. the Have Nots begin to spiral out of control.

well wouldn't this problem fix that problem?

Not in time. The UN did a global population study/report in the late 1990's which put the optimum/maximum global human population at about 5.9 billion. We are already over 7.3 billion, with expectations of 9 billion by 2050, and 12 billion by 2100. With the declining need for human creativity, due to robotics, automation and Artificial Intelligence, etc., Half of the populations will soon be living at or near poverty. THAT is when All Hell is going to break loose.

You make good points @Don M. regarding "the have's and have nots". That's scary too. But I'm sure the UN, when they did their population study in the 90's, was not factoring in the impact of environmental toxins, in the proportions we have now, on human population...or at all.

Erin Brockovich is sounding the alarm based on a new book by a researcher from Mount Sinai in NY.
My Thread Title says "Could"...not "Will". It's a prediction based on recent research. I actually don't belief humankind will end in 2045 but it's not going to be good.

well that's what happens when people screw with mother nature. they just can't leave well enough alone. now we got this mess on our hands. and NOW they worry about it.

Think about how much food you buy that is wrapped in plastic or how often you wrap leftovers in plastic wrap. In fact, when I was first creating this thread to post I realized I was still wearing my waterproof jacket from taking the dogs out for a walk. Yes, waterproof clothing is toxic. I had already used shampoo, soap, and electronics....all toxins mentioned in post #1.

Of course if anyone wants to decrease "an overpopulated world", then ignoring this warning would certainly work I suppose.

Of course, there is only so much most people can do. China can do the most because they make most of the toxic products the world buys. China's name is on just about everything. And they aren't about to change since their goal is world dominance via $$$

I think that it is something to be aware of and make changes where possible but I don't think it is cause for alarm.

IMO the declining birthrates in this country since the 1950s has more to do with inexpensive reliable forms of birth control and changing views on religion.

The birthrate in many developing nations is still quite high and could be of benefit to the United States if we can come up with a mutually beneficial immigration policy.

Okay...but now fast forward to 2045 with toxins having taken a toll on our hormones and reproductive health all that time. I guess new babies being born will in turn have babies before the toxins affect them... if they have their babies young enough.
Toxins do build up over time.

And this is why Mars, Venus, Uranus, and all those other
planets are BARE !!!!! The human race wiped out everything
on those big round balls of rock and we are now on the last
one!!!!! ;)
Why do humans never learn...but just keep on making the same mistakes?

I don't know...greed, temptation, and wrong choices, laziness, lack of vision into the future maybe? Or maybe progress in the world is just moving too fast and it's like trying to stop a speeding train.
