It has to be the most over-used word in America!

Amazing.

In 1981, Lady Diana used it in an interview to describe Prince Charles just after their engagement was announced. It's become the descriptive word of choice for just about everything from food to fashion to clever pet tricks. Can we please be done with it?

LOL...well amazing isn't overused here...thank goodness, but any word regardless of it's origin whenever overused soon gets very tiresome...

One word that seems to have been adopted here over the last few years ( i think it came from America)..is the word ''Guys'' all encompassing for female or males regardless of age. It's really piddlin' people especially seniors who go out as a group, and are referred to ''guys' by someone young enough to be their grandchild..

Scenario...

Young waiter... Hi...what can I get you guys...

Lady members of the group...you can '' get an education, because the word ''guys' mean males...and we're clearly female!!

Sadly it'll never happen because now the Oxford dictionary has it printed now as meaning..anyone of either sex!!

Ooooh and while I'm on a roll...another thing is the word ''get'' which seems to have taken over big time here recently..and annoys the heck out of me and the majority of us oldies..

Young customer in coffee shop...'' Can I get a skinny, double chocolate latte with marshmallows, and chocolate sprinkles

Older customer...May I have an Americano please..

Well "GUYS" is pure Chicago vernacular. Or "yews guys" I grew up calling every group.. male, female, or mixed "guys"... as in "Hey guys, let's go to the movies".. or "What are yews guys doing for dinner?" In fact.. I still find myself using the terms.... and trust me... I'm educated.

I admit I'm guilty using most of all the examples of overused words, from guys to wow -- sometimes they just seem more appropriate in today's casual world, depending on who I am conversing with. When I talk with my elderly English friend, I try to speak in a 'proper' more formal way, but with friends my own age and younger, its not much of a concern.

I agree... it depends on who someone is conversing with. When I am in a formal setting, like a business meeting or seminar I am much more careful to use proper grammar and sentence structure, avoiding slang or colloquialisms. But, when I am in a relaxed social setting with friends I am comfortable with, I will happily revert back to the old slang and dialect.

Well I think that all of you guys are amazingly awesome, so don't give me any arguments.
Sorry to say that the undisputed champion of over use, often used repeatedly in the same sentence, is not fit to be discussed here.:stop:

I try to speak the same way no matter what type of people I am around. Except here on this forum (because no one else here does) I don't use words I usually do that start with "h", "d", "s" and a few others. I never use the F word although I believe if it the #1 overused word today.

The word guy to me, means a group of people and I use it often. I use dude or dudes if I am referring to males. I do not use it all the time, but I use it more than most people do and since I grew up in the hippie days in the hippie part of the country I like to use it.

When my first 3 grand kids were about 3 years old, I walked up to them and said "How are you dudes and dudette? And my grand-daughter said indignantly "We not dudes and dudettes we are CHILDREN!!"

Awesome and amazing are not over used in the circle of people I run with. And to me using the word "get" makes perfect sense. "What can I get for you guys to drink?"

Please overlook any words that offend from my text in the future. That is asking a lot but you guys are just awesome enough to make my request an amazing success.
