It's just too hot !

"They've" been talking about GLOBAL WARMING for the last several years. Maybe "they" know something

that we don't know.

The Bible talks about it too... "the day will come that will burn as an oven"...
Ironically, in that context also, people are responsible.

I read the unusual heat and drought in the British Isles has parched the land
so much that long covered over signs of ancient buildings, walls and gardens
can now be seen from the air. Sweden is also having 90+ temperatures, even
above the Arctic Circle where the heat has caused fires. All of Northern Europe,
including Northwestern Russia, is having a heatwave.

After 110 here in Dallas, the weatherman here said help is on the way in the
form of a weak cold front that will bring us back down to the high 90s.

90s is our summer average high.

Heatwave in Japan too.

Japan heatwave: Warnings issued amid scorching temperatures

" People across Japan have been urged to take precautions against a heatwave that has killed about 30 people.

Thousands more have sought hospital treatment for heat-related conditions over the past two weeks.

Temperatures reached 40.7C (105F) in central Japan earlier this week, a five-year nationwide peak.

In the city of Kyoto temperatures have stood above 38C (100.4F) for seven days in a row for the first time since records began in the 19th Century."

The whole of the UK has turned brown, no green grass
anywhere.

There was some rain a couple of day ago, but it was
in the North West and traveled South East, but stopped
before it reached us.

Next week is more of the same.

Mike.

Next week, a weak "cold front" comes through bringing our temps down to the high 90s for a couple of days...
then it's back to the 100s. We might get a little rain in the area on Tuesday... but it will be hit and miss.

Heads up for the Pacific Northwest, it's coming your way...

Heat wave to have firm grip on northwestern US into end of July

" The remainder of July will be dominated by a resurgence of heat across the northwestern United States.

The recent reprieve from the mid-July heat wave in the Northwest has come to an end as the heat intensifying over the Southwest will also expand its grip northward.

"This stretch of heat actually looks to be longer than what was experienced in mid-July," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski said. "After returning on Sunday, the heat could last right through next weekend."

Highs are expected to soar 5-15 degrees above normal daily through the final full week of July. That will translate into highs near 90 F in Seattle; 90s in Portland, Oregon; around 100 in Pendleton, Oregon, and Boise, Idaho; and the lower 100s in Medford, Oregon.

"Even though humidity levels will remain relatively low through the heat wave, many in the Pacific Northwest do not have air conditioning, so the prolonged heat wave will be dangerous with day after day of sunny and hot conditions," Pydynowski said."

The big heatwave: from Algeria to the Arctic. But what’s the cause?

"The northern hemisphere is having a baking summer – and it’s not just down to climate change"

*

" One of those other factors is the jet stream – a core of strong winds around five to seven miles above the Earth’s surface that blow from west to east and which steer weather around the globe. Sometimes, when they are intense, they bring storms. On other occasions, when they are weak, they bring very calm and settled days. And that is what is occurring at present.

“The jet stream we are currently experiencing is extremely weak and, as a result, areas of atmospheric high pressure are lingering for long periods over the same place,” added Mitchell.

Other factors involved in creating the meteorological conditions that have brought such heat to the northern hemisphere include substantial changes to sea surface temperatures in the North Atlantic. “These are part of a phenomenon known as the Atlantic multidecadal oscillation,” said Professor Adam Scaife, of the Met Office.

“In fact, the situation is very like the one we had in 1976, when we had similar ocean temperatures in the Atlantic and an unchanging jet stream that left great areas of high pressure over many areas for long periods,” said Scaife.

“And of course, that year we had one of the driest, sunniest and warmest summers in the UK in the 20th century.”

I do what most of us do STAY IN AIR CONDITIONED LOCATIONS!!

Me too :)

There is a Walmart neighborhood market half a mile from my house.
They keep it so cold in there, I have to wear a sweater while shopping.
But today, it would feel nice.

Lots of people from the Southern Hemisphere want to move
to Europe or North America, so all the younger people are
moving, the atmosphere in the Northern Hemisphere is now
full of extra Carbon Dioxide!

Where I live there a thousands of immigrants mainly from
South America, South Africa and Australia/New Zealand,
So I see the trend more easily than others as all have to
come here to get their visa renewed.

Really hot here..not as hot as 3 figures like you all..but over 90 degrees, and getting hotter every day, apart from a couple of hours rain we've had nothing in over 6 weeks but Hot heat. that's great but we have no AC here and neither does most of the shops and stores, we're just not prepared for this type of heat! It's very difficult to sleep, I only have ceiling fans...

BTW Mike..my lawns aren't ''brown''...I put the sprinkler on every night... and my hedges and shrubs are looking fine and healthy... but I know what you mean many gardens and park spaces are straw coloured now...

ETA..I take that back about the 3 figures...a weather warning has just been issued for this area, of 103 degrees... did I mention we have no AC.. ?:yuk:

Hi Hollydolly, I know that some people keep their gardens looking
nice with sprinklers etc.

I was referring to the picture that was doing the rounds on the TV
weather and in the newspapers that compares the UK between the
months of May & July.

I just noticed that it is only showing England and Wales.

Mike.

Yep Mike...then there are the fires.. I've just been to the supermarket and drove past a nearby field just yards from a housing estate

Wow!

103 degrees in London ??!

Here when outside in the heat we use mist sprayers. Basically it is a plastic spray bottle
that sprays a fine mist. If the mist is fine enough, it will cool you without getting you too wet.

While we are used to hot weather in Texas and most everyone and all stores have a/c,
we do have to conserve water at times because of drought. We have hundreds of large
lakes in Texas [from which we get most of our water]... and all but one are man-made.

But a/c and watering lawns come at a big cost for homeowners. When having to choose
between a big electric bill or a big water bill... electricity wins.

US Southwest sizzles as temperatures near 120 degrees

" Forecasters say southern Arizona will swelter through temperatures from 112 to 119 degrees through Wednesday.

Some of the highest temperatures over the next few days were expected in Phoenix, and officials are cautioning people to stay hydrated and take advantage of cooler indoor buildings. "

A hot water bottle is the answer if it is too hot
to sleep, fill it with cold water and put it in the
freezer.

At bedtime wrap it in a towel and take it with
you, just like you do in the winter.

For those who don't know what a hot water
bottle is, I put an image below.

I was born & raised in a Chicago suburb and moved to Houston in 1980 and in 38 years I don't recall ever shoveling a single flake of snow. So let it burn baby burn.

Never shoveled any here in Houston either but the ground has been covered with a light dusting and kids in the neighborhood tried their best to squeeze enough together to make some sort of snowman. It was pretty coming down and of course gone before lunch. That's all I want to see, if that much here. We have had a couple of ice storms that have knocked the power out for a few hours. Again beautiful to see everything coated but glad to get power back on and the ice melted.
